[ Hawks wouldn't be surprised if it seems off. It probably is. ]

Didn't think I ever would, so... yeah, I guess that's just how it worked out.

[ His brows crease, perplexed by his wording. ]

[ Hawks laughs softly, trying to play all of this off a if it's no big deal. It isn't, really. Or, it shouldn't be, at least. He holds everything close to his chest when it comes to his personal life, but... the kid looks so honest and perplexed. ]

Well, you know I didn't go to U.A. Everything was uh... home schooling. Never really met too many kids my age, and I was constantly kept too busy to find anyone, so... I guess that kind of stuff- sex, relationships, dating- it was always on the backburner.

[swellter]

[ He knew about UA, but he didn't know you could become a hero without going through one of the major schools. There were a few heroes who did but they never made it to the top rankings and Hawks had broken through to the top three in no time. He was someone to be admired by young heroes everywhere. He knew his history. His own agency at 18, broke into the top 10 rankings in the same year. But hearing about his home life, Todoroki couldn't help but recognize some similarities. ]

But now, it's not.

[ His own struggles echo in the cadence of his words. ]

[ The public gets the story woven and spit out to them. Hell, even the heroes get whatever story is up and out there for the world to see. It's all intricately planned, fabricated to look the very best. Maybe that's why, deep down, Hawks can understand the plight of the villains. So much of the hero world is just a sham.

But this is the young Todoroki. How does he say any of that to Endeavors son?

Free. That's a nice thought. Hawks doesn't think he'll ever be free, but he sure knows how to wear the mask of freedom well. ]

Yeah, somethin like that.

[ Todoroki isn't skilled enough to detect the lie beneath his easy attitude and truth be told, he wants it to be true. He struggled under the restrains of a will far stronger than his own far too long and having broken free, he sees hope in someone who seemed to be making their own way through the world despite the chains of the past.

It's something to strive for. The freedom Hawks put on display every time he showed up online in another hero video of the week. The thought eases his own worries and he finds himself smiling at the easy answer. ]

I'm glad.

[ Hawks is good at his job. Hero, spokesperson, inspiration. A cunning liar and deceiver. A man with all the social graces and charm, who has never really been out in the real world. He's never been free.

When it comes down to it all, though, Hawks wants it to be true, too. He wants to help people, and he wants people to be free. Shouto's smile is good, and pure, and he wouldn't ever want to take that away. ]

Me too.

[His one sexual encounter, though? Not so pure.]

Maybe somewhere along the line my number will go up to two, but right now I'm ok with the one I've got.

[ He still had a goal to work towards. Bonds to strengthen. Family. Friends. These were bonds Todoroki never truly had until recently. For now, they were enough. ]

[ Hawks has had.... hero work, and then more hero work. Friends and family were never in the equation. Even now, the people he seems to be connecting with the most are just another job. Well, aside from this Todoroki family. ]

Plus, you know, there's all that other fun stuff that comes first. Like getting to know someone and dating.

Oh, uh. No. Not really. Never got the chance. If I could have, though? Maybe I would have.

[swellter]

Is there something that says you can't do it after the fact?

[ He doesn't really know the rules of engagement when it comes to this stuff, but he doesn't see a problem with doing things out of order. ]

You know? You're probably right about that. It's something you could definitely do if you're both into it!

[swellter]

I'll keep that in mind.

Just maybe don't tell your father that I'm giving you relationship and sex advice. I think he'd light me on fire.

You're around him a lot these days, so you should know we don't have that kind of relationship.

[ He rolls his eyes. He doesn't want to hear this. His texts were irritating enough. It was worse when he just out and shouted his name like stamping his claim on him for all the world to hear. ]

He's trying to get into my good graces.

[ Well this is definitely different. He doesn't think he's ever seen this eye roll before, or this darker feeling coming off of Todoroki. ]

I'd ask if.... you know what? Never mind. It's really none of my business.

[ That's because up until now, he hadn't made assumptions on their relationship. Todoroki wasn't stupid. He knew his dislike for his father wasn't Hero friendly but he didn't care. After they turned a blind eye to the doings of one of their top heroes, Todoroki didn't give a damn about appearances. The only reason he didn't shout accusations to the rooftops was because he'd drag his mother and siblings into the limelight something he knew none of them wanted, especially when they were finally growing closer as a family. ]

If you want to ask, ask him.

[Hawks asks slowly, because here's the thing- he doesn't want to pry and it really isn't any of his business... but he also knows what it feels like when people turn a blind eye and just believe what they want to believe. Shouto is genuinely angry about this, and Hawks can tell it's not just a father and son spat of the week.]

I don't care what you do.

[ He gave up on caring what they thought of his father a long time ago. They willfully turned a blind eye because they wanted too. ]
