You're around him a lot these days, so you should know we don't have that kind of relationship.

Sorry. I didn't really know. He talks about you a lot.

[ He rolls his eyes. He doesn't want to hear this. His texts were irritating enough. It was worse when he just out and shouted his name like stamping his claim on him for all the world to hear. ]

He's trying to get into my good graces.

[ Well this is definitely different. He doesn't think he's ever seen this eye roll before, or this darker feeling coming off of Todoroki. ]

I'd ask if.... you know what? Never mind. It's really none of my business.

[ That's because up until now, he hadn't made assumptions on their relationship. Todoroki wasn't stupid. He knew his dislike for his father wasn't Hero friendly but he didn't care. After they turned a blind eye to the doings of one of their top heroes, Todoroki didn't give a damn about appearances. The only reason he didn't shout accusations to the rooftops was because he'd drag his mother and siblings into the limelight something he knew none of them wanted, especially when they were finally growing closer as a family. ]

[Hawks asks slowly, because here's the thing- he doesn't want to pry and it really isn't any of his business... but he also knows what it feels like when people turn a blind eye and just believe what they want to believe. Shouto is genuinely angry about this, and Hawks can tell it's not just a father and son spat of the week.]

I don't care what you do.

[ He gave up on caring what they thought of his father a long time ago. They willfully turned a blind eye because they wanted too. ]

[He rubs the back of his neck.]

[ There's a fire brimming inside of him. He knows that. It's always been there and he's always had a hard time smothering the flames. ]

Like I said before, I wouldn't exactly call us friends. Besides, I'm not gonna tell him the things we talk about it. I don't report back to him, especially when I'm just offering to lend an ear. That would be shitty.

I get it if you don't want to. The offer will always be there if you ever wanna talk, though. I promise I wouldn't say a thing.

[ He might be a hero, but he's come to be distrustful of figures of authority when it came to matters like these. All-Might, Aizawa. His teachers at UA he trusted, but the ones outside, fighting for a rank higher than their own - he'd listen to them when it came to field orders, but he wouldn't easily trust them with something personal. ]

[ It's kind of refreshing having that said so blatantly to his face.

He's definitely not lying in this case, but he's lied in so many others. It's one of his best skills, just like all the masks he wears. He really is offering to listen this time, and maybe even offer friendship, but Shouto is probably better off without him. ]

[ He braced himself for some kind of denial but when none comes it's enough to lax his shoulders as he nods back at him, taking his answer at face value. ]

[ He's not quite sure how to take that after outright slapping down his offer. He nods slowly, it's not that he dislikes him, he simply doesn't trust him. ]

Oh, wow... so much. Like, probably even more than I can imagine.

It's not all about the ranking.
#2 doesn't mean all that much if you close yourself off to learning more from the people around you!
