The Fairy Tale AU Meme

Character Roles

1. Princess
One day your prince will come... Or maybe you're going after him! Or maybe you've been cursed/captured/whatever and are in need of rescue! Those towers won't climb themselves, and those kisses that awaken you from a century of slumber aren't exactly cheap.

2. Prince Charming/Heroic Knight
You're handsome (hopefully). You're charming (you think). You have a great outfit (this is debatable). Regardless, it's time to go find and rescue your one true love! ... Er, wherever she or he might be.

3. Villian
Man, those two up there sure are annoying, aren't they? Maybe it's time to do some kidnapping, curse some royalty, plague a kingdom, or whatever other nefarious deed you might be thinking of. In any case, the truly important thing is to make sure your cape and collar are appropriately intimidating and black.

4 . Red Riding Hood
... Or whichever other cute little girl that roams the woods in her free time that you can think of. You're cute, you have a pretty outfit, and there's something growling in the bushes but whatever it is, it can't be too dangerous, can it?

5 . Wolf
You're a wolf. Or a bear. Or some other animal. Or some random person with animal ears and a tail. Maybe you're evil, maybe you're just misunderstood, but you still can't stand those annoying people that keep wandering around your forest. Maybe they're even in your house, eating your food! The nerve! Or maybe they just look delicious, who knows.

6 . Dragon
You're a fucking dragon. Maybe you've kidnapped a snack, maybe someone came to hunt you down, maybe some hobbit is stealing your treasure, maybe you're just chilling. You're a dragon.

7 . Witch
Bring out the hat and broomstick, it's time to get the cauldron bubbling. Good, misunderstood, evil, who knows what you are. Except for a witch. You're definitely a witch. Try to avoid shoving small children into your oven and you should be fine.

8 . Cheery Animal Sidekick
Cheep cheep! Boy that princess sure is pretty, huh? You should sing with her and do her chores for her and obey her slavishly- wait... Well, whatever you're doing, you're cute and small and mildly annoying.

9 . Cursed Prince
Life was just perfect for you, until you got on the wrong side of that witch/wizard/cheery animal sidekick pushed just too far. Now you're cursed! Into a beast? Into a frog? Maybe you have really bad acne now? It could be anything (seriously, anything you can think of) but luckily, the cure is simple. Find your one true love and get that magical first kiss.

10. Fairy Godmother
When your princess is in need, she's only got one person to turn to. Her fairy godmother. It's your job to advise her, help get her out of any scrapes she happens to be in, or maybe you got her in the mess to begin with.

11. Random Extra
Wow, all those other guys sure are weird, aren't they? You'll just get back to work. Even with all this nonsense going on, life continues.

>>An' the sniffer says...no bodies. Lots of dust though in the...dark, creepy, twisted castle.<< Of course it was. They were in the middle of nowhere during a storm. It HAD to be a dark, creepy castle right?

"Well, that makes sense." Chrome said, nodding, "You're a dragon and I'm a princess...where else would we end up?"

>>Holiday Inn? They take all types ye know?<< Yeah, creepy castle it was. At least the doors seemed big enough for him, though they had to land on the drawbridge that spanned and bottomless chasm.

"Even dragons?" She couldn't think of an inn that big!

>>Well, if they turned us away then we'd at least get vouchers or some such,<< he chuckled and carefully uncurled his hand from around Chrome before nosing the doors open (they were a bit too big for a little princess alone to open). >>Who ever needed a place this soddin' big?!<<

"Lots of royals have really big families?" Chrome offered, "My family used to be really, really big, but things have gotten kind of bad the last couple of generations."

>>Big as in cloud-scrapin',<< he snorted. >>Come on then. Let's find a main fireplace? Get something burnin' so your blankets ken dry out.<< He slid through the doors easily and glanced around, setting her luggage down safely before dragging his claws through the dust.

>>Cor, maybe wait outside a tick luv? I'll burn this off. Keep ye from chokin' on dust...<<

"Ah, okay." Chrome said, waiting out on the walk and making faces at how soggy her bedding was. Yeah. This...was not a good thing. At least she wasn't coughing yet?

He was very careful with his fire! The dust in the great hall went up in a rush that died in a pathetic little puff. Quick burning, dust. It didn't even get hot enough to light the tattered hangings of set the tables smoldering. >>Aright luv, come in, I'll drag the blankets if they got too heavy yeh? After I take apart this table for fire wood...<< And upended benches could work for drying racks, right?

Hopefully.

"That sounds good." Chrome agreed, dragging in as many of the blankets as she could and then finding a spot out of the way while he broke up the table and started the fire. She was shivering a little bit, but didn't want to complain.

>>Yer clothin' still dry luv?<< he asked after a moment. >>May want te change inte somethin' dry and comfortable to sleep in either way.<< Just in case. With benches draped in blankets there was plenty of privacy after all.

And it was a really simple thing to get a fire going. >>May have te find the nearest village an' ask fer food enough to last a few days. Should have thought te supply up at the last stop.<<

"No." she admitted, taking off the soggy outer layers and setting them over near the blankets to dry as well, "That would have been smart...we don't have to beg, though! I took money and all my jewellery."

A nightgown, and thick socks, and a robe would keep her warm enough for the time being.

>>Not beggin' is a plus. I just don't think a place as dusty as this will have edibles left yeh?<< Which kind of bit really.

Chrome nodded and got out her money bag. "Most of this is in gold, so you'll either need to find someone to change it...they shouldn't try to trick you, you're a dragon. A loaf of bread should be one or two copper bits. Ten copper bits to a silver, ten silvers to a gold." They like things easy in fantasy land. "Jewels are harder to judge..." but she did her best at giving general prices for pretty much everything she had with her.

>>Alright, so fair price for say a week of easy food and a trunk te transport it? And maybe some ready-made stew?<< He hazarded, using a careful claw to separate out a single gold piece. >>How much do meds run? Ah...simples?<< He was curled around their erstwhile camp, occasionally adding another table chunk to the fire as they spoke.

Beyond them though the shadows whispered and danced and he kept turning to peer at them just in case.

"A month's worth of these," she pulled out one, "is three gold. It's the most important one. These," another one, "are a silver each. The rest of them should be between four and eight bits each."

>>Alright, separate out enough for the meds and set those in a different pocket?<< he suggested. >>That way we have it ready if we need it.<< Or if she was out of medicine and unable to talk well he'd be able to fish out exact change without flashing all their wealth!

>>An' leave one gold with me and I'll fetch food in the morning'? Rest goes back in your pocket luv. We can change yer jewelry in a decent city later.<<

Chrome nodded and started doing so, then put the rest away. "That sounds good. Thank you." His scales were warm. It was very comfortable.

He fiddled a moment, finding a way to wedge the coin between the scales of his hand so he wouldn't lose it then nosed her. >>Gettin' blinky princess? Should be safe te sleep. I'll watch.<<

"That sounds good." Chrome agreed, sleepily, "Yes. Good night."

He curled around until he could rest his chin along his back, the better to watch teh hall behind the girl as she slept. And there were...shadows. Not Heartless, he'd recognize those just...creepy shadows not cast by anything and certainly not flickering enough to be a result of their fire.

Damn maybe-haunted castle.

Around midnight she began coughing. Deep, body-shaking coughs that nonetheless did not wake her up.

Oh fuck that wasn't good. Right. How did one help a sleeping, fairy tale princess when she was getting sick at night? Waking her was definitely out of the question since sick people needed sleep...

...more warmth? Yes, time to ignore those shadows for a moment and drape a wing over the girl like a blanket. He'd have to look into going to a village first thing in the morning. Maybe someone had some cold tabs? Unlikely as that seemed. Maybe Chicken soup?

They'd...be here a while probably.

She did sleep through the night, curled up into his warm side and coughing. When she woke in the morning she was confused and disoriented, "Wha?" cough, cough.

Yeeeeah, he'd listened to her all night and he wasn't happy. >>Yer sick luv, take it easy. Was the rain yesterday most like. I'm going te bundle ye up in the dry blankets an go on a supply an med run yeh?<<
