"He's with me," said a total stranger, slipping her arm under Mr. Murdock's to rest a dainty hand on his forearm as if he had presented his elbow for her.

It was such a trivially easy thing for Aziraphale to take on the appearance and voice of a polite young lady that he didn't even break stride. If it was simply a mortal confrontation then the angel wouldn't have interfered, but when multiple assassins that reeked of eldritch darkness began to converge on a mortal target then something had to be done.

The mortal wasn't exactly defenseless. Aziraphale would have let it run its course if it happened while Mr. Murdock was out playing vigilante actually looking for trouble. But here? Where the esteemed lawyer had been invited to speak at a black-tie charity event in a natural history museum? Whether or not the poor mortal decided to fight back and blow his cover, there were over two hundred innocent bystanders! Not to mention the reporters, one of whom was filming an interview less than ten feet away. There were rules about this sort of thing! Or should be, anyway!

Though the people Mr. Murdock was talking with would be just as surprised as the man himself, Aziraphale wasn't looking at them. She was smiling sweetly at the beings lurking behind him. Beings who immediately realized that they were outmatched, even if they didn't know exactly what she was or why she was there. Unfortunately, they didn't flee the scene. Instead, they immediately blended back into the crowd to wait for another chance.

She turned back around to give the other mortals in the group a pleasant smile. "Hi, I'm Aziraphale! And you must be...?" While Mr. Murdock was quite accomplished at small-talk, Aziraphale knew it would be easier if she picked up the slack while the poor stunned man got his bearings again.

[It doesn’t exactly feel copasetic to rejoin the X-men at first, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t privy to some information. And while she could probably take on entire mysterious lab holding mutants for testing with the power surge she’s gotten, she knows the importance of a team or at least back.

red had little quarrel with most creatures, especially when he preferred lurking with humans to barter away their souls, but this had seemed important to sai, so they'd eventually come to an agreement that worked far more in sai's favor than red's. mortals were strictly forbidden to enter the place on their own, and while sai probably could have found a way in, red's role in all of this felt a lot more natural and simpler. accompany him inside, not have to deal with any intense mood swings for at least several days. it wasn't exactly fair, but at least he'd given a condition of his own before they'd left, one that forced sai's hand into making a wish he could grant and not mess up. it made it easier to drape an arm around sai's shoulders when they got to the door, and red purposely oversells their relationship with a gentle push of his fingers into sai's hair before patting his cheek – to demean him in the least intrusive way possible and show his dominance over someone who was pretending to be his master – and navigating them inside.

the club itself felt like every other he'd visited since he'd woken up: loud, annoying, too crowded to do much of anything besides grind on one another or get drunk in a corner somewhere. he keeps his expression passive, leaning close to sai to he can talk to him without shouting and hoping it looks affectionate enough to pass as one lover doting another. their conversations are meant for no one else but them, and in a place like this, there are ears everywhere. ]

If you start to feel like your usual charming self, be sure to tell me. That wish wasn't permanent. [ much to his disappointment. ]
