Of course he did, Clint was all about observations. He watched people, places, things, and Natasha had no doubt that he was making mental notes about all of it. She would have loved to get a little peek into that head of his to see what kind of notes he’d made on her.

His hand was warm around hers and she leaned a bit against his arm as they walked, just enjoying the close proximity. She threw him a glare, though, for his little joke, even though she was quite amused that he had been so quick to claim that he had been joking.

“Now that would certainly get us kicked out of the store,” she said before grinning just a little too widely at him. “You do realise that cats tend to eat birds, right?” He could take that however he wanted. “Now find me some breadcrumbs, eagle eye.”

Clint's whole life was based on observations, he had nothing else going for him but studying what people did and how they acted. It was what made him 'special' in the sense that he was able to carry himself on a team of remarkable people.

He didn't catch the glare, too busy caught up in just, well, them. Able to be together and not care about what anybody thought for a change, rather than hiding each other and their interractions away like it was something sordid and disgraceful.

"It's a risk I'm more than happy to take." He gave her a smile, a sobering sudden reminder of how content he was, how much he cared, how happy she made him feel. Clutching her hand tighter as his trained eyes switched back to the hanging signs unti he found one that suited their needs. "Two more aisles on the left, can we get a good bottle of wine too?" And more snacks, for desert. Or maybe just premade one, his sweet tooth was showing.

Her heart warmed at his smile and she held his hand just as tight. It was what it had always been about for them, taking risks. Everything they did in life was risky, it seemed, but for Natasha there had been no risk greater than letting him into her heart. As they say, though, the greater the risk the greater the payoff, and no risk had she ever been more grateful she had taken since she had first decided to put her life in his hands all those years ago. Somewhere along the way he had become the one thing in her life that was worth risking everything for, a thought that was equally terrifying as it was wonderful.

“Of course. We might need it if this turns out poorly,” she said. She never claimed to be a good cook, but she did like to try once in a while. “And unless you want to bake something we will need a dessert,” she continued as if reading his mind. Sometimes people liked to joke that they shared a mind at this point. Others didn’t like to joke about it as they were afraid it just might be true.

She was his most prized risk, as if that wasn't evident with how much happier he was when she was around. Long distance missions left him brooding, he coped because he had no other choice, but even that was getting harder to deal with the further he fell. Then again, as long as he got to keep loving her then he'd deal with whatever obstacles were in his path.

"It won't turn out poorly, I've already said I'll give you a hand." Clint smirked, she was his own personal mind reader and he loved the fact they communicated by guessing from each other just like that. "What kind of dessert you thinking of? I'll make whatever you fancy.." Yeah he was a fucking fool for her.

Grabbing a bag of bread crumbs from the shelf he unlinked their fingers and slipped his arm around her waist, pulling her closer. "If you're gonna take the helm on main course then I can only repay the effort by making you whatever you want in return."

“Good. Then if it turns out awful we can share the blame,” Natasha replied with a grin. Her expression quickly shifted into one of surprise, though, when Clint offered to make her whatever she wanted for desert. “Anything?”

It was tempting to pick something fancy like a layered cake with everything made from scratch, and she knew if that’s what she asked then that was what she would get.

When he pulled his hand away to slip his arm around her waist she gave up all pretenses of shopping for a moment and turned to face him, winding her arms around his neck. “You’re actually going to bake for me? Aren’t you just the best boyfriend ever,” she said as another couple passed them. Natasha bit her lip to hold back her grin as she heard the woman ask the man why he never baked for her. He also earned a pretty hard smack when he got caught checking Natasha out on the way by.

"Yeah yeah, although it's not going to turn out awful. We make the best team, remember?" He nodded, shrugging only slightly at her response. "Anything, and yeah I'm actually going to bake for you. There's abosultely no fantasy of you covered in cake icing or cream in my head at all.." Okay so he was lying, it was obvious with the half smile curving his lips.

That smile grew at her confirmation, the best boyfriend was probably stretching it a little far considering he certainly had his faults but his restraint never faltered, like the fact that he'd simply pulled her closer rather then reach up and smack the guy in the mouth as he passed.

"Yeah best boyfriend, but that makes you the best girlfriend ever y'know." Leaning down he stole a kiss, conscious that they were currently doing the unthinkable and 'canoodling' in the middle of a public place. To hell with everything. "So what you thinking? Sweet or savoury?"

They really did make the best team, Natasha couldn’t argue that, nor did she want to. She never worked so well with anyone in any facet as she did with Clint, both professionally and personally. Out in the field the moved so fluidly they could have been one, and it wasn’t that much different behind closed doors.

“Mmhmm,” she replied to his fantasy, clearly not believing him, not that she was supposed to. “Maybe we should add ‘whipped cream’ to this list,” she said very suggestively.

Now ‘boyfriend’ wasn’t a term she would normally use, it always sounded so silly and childish, but for the benefit of those around them it was the one she chose and it had worked well enough on the other couple that was now turning the corner at the other end of the aisle, not that Natasha noticed at the moment when Clint stole a kiss. She wasn’t sure she approved of being called anyone’s ‘girlfriend’ either, but she let it pass. They were just labels, they didn’t really mean anything other than the fact that they were together.

Licking her lips after the brief kiss, she smiled. “Definitely sweet.”

It was disheartening that she saw those words as mere labels, especially since Clint put purchase in them. It was just another step towards normalcy for him, another way for him to feel wanted, she just made that part of their relationship difficult, but it wasn't going to stop him.

"Whipped cream is certainly going on the list, essential in creating a sweet dessert." He grinned, pulling away to continue the amble down the aisle, picking baking items from the shelves as he went, studying labels and deciding on two tubs of some thick icing rather than making that part himself. He wasn't highly skilled enough and generally made a mess of his icing. Oh well, he was a master archer, not a baker.

"Double chocolate fudge sound sickening enough for you?" Tempted to throw a term of endearment on that, thought better off it because hey, he liked having his balls attached to his body.

Natasha made a lot of their relationship difficult, if truth be told. Despite all his amazing skills and qualities, Clint was really a normal guy at heart, but Natasha had built up so many walls out of necessity and self preservation that it was difficult to pull them all down. She had been working on them, he had been working on them, but it was more a task of removing them brick by brick than demolishing them with one hard strike.

“Of course it is,” she returned his smile before giving her list one last look as he pulled away and returned to their shopping. Other than the cheese, everything else they should already have on hand so she stowed the list and pen away and fell in step beside Clint again as he dropped two tubs of icing in the cart.

“Mmm, sounds perfect,” she replied. Anything chocolate was always a good choice.

Clint had endless patience it seemed, oh he'd sit and wait while the plaster crumbled and the bricks fell out but he often wondered how long his own sanity would hold out. He was too lost in a fantasy world, because in reality where could this go if anywhere? The white picket fence? The domestic lifestyle? Neither of them could just wander away from their jobs and wave goodbye to what they were. He was a fool, and he knew it, but his patience and hope kept him hanging on.

"Glad I have your approval, now what's left that you need before we go cream hunting and get out of here?" Really he just wanted to start the drive back, possibly steal some kisses in the car before they got back on the road, pretend to be two different people for a while longer.

"And we need to pick some wine, y'know, really make a night of it. Shame we weren't alone, could have got a decent movie and settled on the couch for cake and cream." Oh now that was a nice thought. "Maybe tomorrow night, y'know, kick everyone else out."

He may have been a fool, but he was her fool, and the only man she could imagine having any sort of life with. He had been the first person to really see her, to really care about the person that was hiding under all the programming. He had set her free, had shown her how to live and how to love. Maybe they would never move forward from where they were now, but for now this was enough.

“Just cheese. I think we have everything else,” she said, starting down the aisle beside him again. Wine sounded good, and while she was looking forward to the big “family” dinner, she did bemoan the loss of a full day with just Clint. She might just have to leave the others to do the clean-up and... retire early.

Then he had to go an mention tomorrow night and her eyes darkened a moment while the half smile she had been wearing froze in place. “Maybe,” she said, turning the corner and looking at the sign for the next aisle.

Her fool, yeah he was a fool for her, completely and utterly. So wrapped up in her he'd follow her to the ends of the earth. Stupid, Clint was stupid but he'd carry on being a lovesick fool if it meant he got to hold her, curl up with her and let her keep him. He needed a home and Natasha supplied one.

"Okay so cheese, wine and cream." He nodded, gaze scanning toe signs again, too caught up in plotting where the last three items were to notice her expression, but he caught the word.

"Maybe? I'm sure the cake will tempt you, even let you choose the film." He averted his gaze back to her, gave her a smile and let his hand find hers again. Finally finding the right aisle for a mass of dairy products. "Alright hot stuff, you go grab your cheese, I've got a date with the cream."

More than the cake was tempting, it was all so much more than tempting, but she would be on a plane by mid afternoon and then it would be at least four long months without him, not even able to speak to him every once in a while. Complete radio silence. But that wasn’t the worst of it, not this time. No, what made this time particularly difficult was because it would be her first solo mission since the one Coulson had taken her out of with those three fateful words.

Barton’s been compromised.

“Mmm,” she replied noncommittally, going for coy. She preferred having him believe she was playing hard to get than having to lie to him.

“Hot stuff?” she repeated, raising her eyebrows in a you’re kidding, right? look. Shaking her head, she extracted her hand and walked ahead of him down the aisle. “A date, hm? Should I be jealous?” she threw back over her shoulder.

It was certainly best she didn't tell him, the last thing she probably needed was him asking stupid questions and then brooding for the rest of the evening. Maybe after a bottle of wine... or just all the wine.

"Alright well, I know when I'm being blown off, and don't even give me the look you're thinking off." Yeah he knows how that sounded thank you very much, he does not need the visual confirmation from her gaze.

Clint did manage a playful grin and a loose shrug of his shoulders, "What? It's a term of appreciation," But it was too late considering she was already striding away from him and he was left smirking all to himself. "Yeah you should certainly be jealous over a can of whipped cream." He really should have been looking at them instead of watching her walk away, but honestly the view was nicer.

No, whipped cream, right. Head back in the game and away from distracting master assassins.

Turning back to look at him again, Natasha gave Clint a quizzical look. “I’m sure I don’t know what you mean. What look am I thinking of?” she played innocent. Only right before she turned away again did she give him exactly the look he had been expecting, one filled with suggestion and promise.

“You know I prefer actions to words,” she said as she surveyed the choices of cheese. “You can appreciate me later.” Between those words and the look she had given him just moments ago, she had a feeling he was reaching his limit of thinly veiled innuendo and would be more than happy to get out of the store as soon as possible. The wine might end up the most hastily selected bottle in history.

“Well, it is a good thing I am not the jealous type,” she continued, finally selecting a cheese. Not true, she could be very jealous, she was just lucky enough that Clint didn’t give her reason to be. Before he had been ‘hers’, though, she had certainly had her moments but she hid it well.

Clint was about to reply until, well, she just had to pull that expression. Sometimes he wished she'd get out of his head, sometimes he was happy she was in there, better then it being full of blue.

Oh she really was pushing his limits, she always did. Knew how to make him tick, knew how to push his buttons. The wine selection may never happen at this rate, and it would have been a damn shame.

He laughed under his breath, picking out a can, making his way slowly towards her. "Yeah it is a good thing, because otherwise you'd get jealous over other inanimate objects, the couch, a knife and fork, a glass." He could go on but he didn't, simply gripped the handle of the trolley and lent against it. "Are we done yet? It's a long drive back and all this innuendo is making me impatient."

Turning to grin at him as he made his list, Natasha set the block of cheese in the cart. “The water in your shower,” she continued for him, “Your bow and arrows...”

Okay, so maybe that one was a little true. She knew how much he loved that weapon, and just watching him at target practice was a thing of beauty. Then, of course, there was that glove he wore to shoot. There was just something incredibly sexy about that glove.

Stepping up on the end of the trolly, she leaned forward a bit and grasped the sides to keep her balance. “I thought you wanted some wine?” she questioned, though to be honest she was getting a bit impatient too. At this rate they might have to find somewhere secluded to pull off for a few minutes on the ride home. “Maybe we should just get the usual.”

"Oh yeah, you should certainly be jealous of the water, knowing the things it sees and does." He didn't even bring his bow up, because that was probably the one thing in his life she should really be jealous of. He'd die with that by his side, in his grip, and the glove well? most of the time he wore that just to see her reaction. A reaction he kept close to his heart.

He lent on his elbows, leaning closer with a smirk curling his lips. "The usual is normally some of your lethal paint stripper, I'm not sure my liver can take anymore of that." Clint laughed, reaching for her arm to pull her upright and closer meaning he could let the trolley glide along on it's own while he, well, slightly manhandled the red head.

By manhandling he was simply busying his hands on her hips. "Okay why don't you go grab a couple of bottles and I'll head to the cashier and start getting this rung up? Be quicker." His eyebrow raised innocently, his mind too busy remembering the drive down and whether there were any of those rubbish dirt roads they could utilize.

“Mm, well maybe tonight we should see if they water would be up for a threesome,” Natasha replied, and of course an older woman would walk by just in time to hear the last few words. Looking positively scandalized, the woman hurried on.

Now Natasha could have easily gotten out of Clint’s grip when he pulled her closer, they both knew that, but she let him get away with a little manhandling, a privilege only he could claim. With one hand on his chest she smiled up at him, seeing right through his innocent façade. “Alright. I will see you soon,” she agreed anyway, giving him a quick peck on the cheek before extricating herself from his arms. As much as she enjoyed being able to be like this with him in public, at this point if they didn’t get out of here soon they would probably end up getting thrown out and then they would just have to start all over elsewhere. It was better they have a few minutes apart.

Clint laughed, rolling his eyes. "I'm sure the water wouldn't complain, then again it might want me all for itself." He simply smirked at the old woman, shaking his head. "You're terrible, upsetting old women."

Clint's eyes floated down to her hand then back up to her eyes, smirking at the kiss. Damn it all he did around her was smirk or grin, he really needed to get a grip.

He watched her go, again, for a moment before he moved himself, heading towards the cashier and ending up next to the couple they'd performed in front of earlier. He gave the woman a half smile, starting to empty the cart and fumbling around in his pocket for his wallet. Moving to shove items into bags while he glanced up waiting for the shine of red hair to reappear. Unless she was lost. Naw.

Natasha perused the wine, a faint but genuine smile on her face as she did so. Had someone told her ten years ago that the Black Widow would be picking out wine for a dinner she was about to cook for her friends and the man who had managed to steal her heart, and that she would be smiling stupidly while doing so she would have laughed in their face... and then quite possibly done them some serious bodily harm.

She didn’t notice the man who was watching her at first, and it wasn’t until she had selected a third bottle of wine that he decided to make a move. Fortunately for him she was in a good mood and only shut him down with words; it was also fortunate for him that he had kept his hands to himself and hadn’t tried to press the issue. Grabbing a fourth bottle she headed for the checkouts, holding them up and smiling as she approached Clint.

“I think this should be enough for dinner, as well as anything we get up to afterwards,” she said. Steve, Bruce and Pepper she didn’t have to worry much about when it came to alcohol consumption, but Tony and Thor could certainly put it away.

While Natasha was having problems Clint was also having some of his own in the form of a very rosy cheeked cashier who kept smiling at him. Not that Clint cared, too busy throwing items into bags and waiting for her return.

It was when she did that Clint finally managed a proper smile, instead of just giving the cashier the odd glance. "Wow that's some wine selection." He took in each bottle in her hands, nodding his approval. "I have plans for after dinner, you know. They involve one of those bottles and cake, with whipped cream, and water." His eyebrows moved, the cashier just smiled and Clint had the urge to reach for Natasha and pull her close, just for the show of things.

Natasha took little notice of the cashier, her mind far too occupied with Clint’s words.

“Well as long as I am included in these plans then you can have first pick,” she said as she set the bottles down to be rung in. “Though I am not sure how well whipping cream will go with water.”

Her eyes sparkled merrily as she slipped past him, making sure to brush against him as she passed behind him to the end of the cash where she could gather up some of the bags.

"Oh the water is for after the whipped cream" Clint gave her a look, smiling to himself at the brush of her body against his as she moved past. She was actually going to be the death of him, it was obvious. If she didn't kill him with her games he'd certainly die flinging himself in front of her.

He pulled his card out after the cashier had rung up their shopping, gave it to the woman and looked back at Natasha. "You're always included in plans, they'd be no fun if you weren't involved." He punched in his card number, grabbed the receipts and finally reached to grab the heavier bags.

"I mean, I brought the whipped cream especially for you.."

“Oh, right,” Natasha replied, acting the part of the ditz for just a moment. “Whipped cream can make things all sticky and messy...”

Playing innocent, she took up the food bags and left the wine for him. As he paid for the groceries she noticed how the cashier was looking at him even if it appeared that now Clint had pretty much forgotten the girl’s existence upon Natasha’s return.

“Good answer. I will keep that in mind,” she said as they finally started for the exit. She couldn’t help but laugh at his comment. “Of course you did, though I have no doubt that you will enjoy it too.”
