[He'll join her in that. Elijah appreciates his wine.]

Nothing? So the vampire who moved in a few doors down is a coincidence, then.

[His raised eyebrow says everything. He doesn't think it's a coincidence.]

Will is a vampire? [She tilts her head in surprise.]

No way.

[negotiates]

You've spoken to him.

[waitedlongenough]

I took out the trash a few days ago. He was doin' the same. [She shrugs. How did he even know this?]

[negotiates]

[Hmm.] What did he say?

[waitedlongenough]

Just asked about the complex. Nothing important. Where to get the stickers for the garbage, that sort of stuff. [She shrugs.]

Why?

[negotiates]

Because he may try to gain access to your apartment. [He leans over, nudging her shoulder lightly.] You wouldn't want to invite in any vampire but me, would you?

[waitedlongenough]

[She raises a brow.] I didn't even want to invite you in. But now I know what to look for.

[Another sip.] So how do I protect myself from him? Or will you-- know if I'm in trouble or something?

[Vampire rules, she has no idea.]

[negotiates]

[He puts his glass of wine down, and reaches inside his jacket pocket to draw out a jewellery box: a small slim box that looks like it contains a watch or bracelet, something of that sort.]

Take this.

[He presents it to her. And this time he's entirely serious; this is no frivolous gift.]

[She takes the box, the smile falling from her face.]

You're worried about something.

[negotiates]

Open it.

[He doesn't give anything away, but he's gently insistent. When she opens the box, she'll find a silver charm bracelet, decorated with tiny figurines including horses, a ballerina and an oak leaf.]

[She opens the box and takes out the bracelet.]

It's beautiful. What's the occasion?

[negotiates]

Your safety. Wear it and it will protect you from vampire mind control. Your neighbour won't be able to compel you. And nor will I.

[It won't undo any of the times he already compelled her. That still stands. But as long as she wears it, he won't be able to compel her again.]

[waitedlongenough]

[She slips it on her wrist before looking at him. He can't do it now either.]

How does he even know about me?

[negotiates]

[He leans back against the couch, shrugging, and picks up his wine glass.]

I don't know. But I'll find out.

[waitedlongenough]

[She watches him after a moment.]

So you're not an anomaly or something. There are others?

[negotiates]

[He relaxes, sipping his wine.]

An entire species.

[waitedlongenough]

[She's impressed.]

And you're pretty powerful, I take it?

[negotiates]

As a species? Yes.

[waitedlongenough]

No, I mean you. [She already got that with the whole compelling thing.]

[negotiates]

I'm pretty powerful. [He imitates her tone of voice, a glint in his eyes.]

Is this like man thing? [You know size issues. But she does smile at his tone.]

I just mean, what have I gotten myself into?

[negotiates]

[Haha. Maybe it is. Vampires do like their posturing. But real strength wins out in the end.] Nothing I can't get you out of.

[She takes a drink.] What's going to happen?

[negotiates]

I am going to cross paths with your vampire neighbour and he is going to die.
