( The details were simple. Go in, take out the target, leave. The first part was easy. It was easy to slip past the guards, though there were few of them, and position herself, sights waiting for her.

It wasn't long. She had the doctor's schedule, her trip putting her through the area two minutes after Widowmaker's arrival. Her finger was ready, waiting for the perfect second-

It never came. The shot had been lined perfectly but then the doctor had turned, and when Amélie had seen her something had caused her to hesitate. She'd never hesitated before. Mercy's chest had glowed, and though she didn't know it her own had too.

There was irritation at herself for the moment of distraction, her finger taking the shot a second too late causing it to miss entirely, the bullet streaming just past her head. Mission failed.

3; 2ish; Is this okay?

[Angela -- or "Mercy" as the others have been calling her ever since finally joining Overwatch -- has been fighting the invitations to join for a while. Overwatch seemed like just another organization grabbing for power, but then considering what she was doing before joining, maybe she was too quick to judge? Sure she was coming up with her own scientific advances along the way, but the funding and endless possibilities with Overwatch made her reconsider. Maybe it wasn't as bad as she was assuming it was?

So there she was, pretty young for how much she'd achieved heading the medical division. Sure she'd seen Reyes around -- who hadn't there? He was a big wig -- but hadn't really spoken to him much. The times she did speak to him, he seemed.... distant.. Or rather, he seemed like he didn't like her; possibly due to how young she was. Still they eventually started to talk more and she'd settled in overtime.

She just... didn't expect to suddenly start seeing his -- and her own -- chest glow whenever she was near him after her birthday. The birthday itself went on without a hitch (she didn't exactly celebrate it, even though a few of the others did do something for it), but what she found strange was that this seemed to be happening a lot since that day.

Only with Reyes did it happen. The others it didn't seem to happen and she didn't know what to take away from it. Being the scientist (of sorts) that she was, she had to figure out the case. She just didn't expect to start falling for him over time of trying to figure out what it could be and why only them. It started to get bad enough that her heart would start beating faster every time he approached her and the glow would just get brighter.

She couldn't possibly be attracted to him, could she? No matter how much she told herself no, those butterflies never seemed to go away. So one day, she approached him (when he wasn't busy) and pulled him along to her lab.]

Something... is going on... And I don't know what's causing it. [The elephant in the room should be proof enough. That glow was bright.] You have to have some ideas as to why, right?

[She had her theories by now, but she wasn't 100% convinced that she was accurate on them yet.]

The media, as with all things, can't make up its mind about Soul Mates.

Is it romantic? Is it creepy? Is it even real, or some sort of mass hysteria-cult initiation?

Will's seen the tattoos on corpses. He's seen them on people he's interviewed. He's looked in their eyes and seen a hollowness in the ones alone but Marked, he's averted his gaze from the brimming joy in the partnered-Marked.

He knows it's a real draw, a real pull. One day at a crime scene, snow crunching under his boots as he stooped under the front porch, Will had felt it. The ecstasy that came from being near his beloved, near her even if she refused him, had been consumed by the raw pain and eager sacrifice of killing first her, then her husband, then himself.

Jack hadn't asked him for a consult for a full week after that one. Will hadn't even left his house for the first three days of that enforced vacation.

The Marked population always reported that it came on slow. Insidious like a chronic disease, creeping up with exposure to the source.

Will had been ignoring the stinging, the darkening of his skin, for as long as he could. He'd lied to himself about whose Mark it must match, he'd told himself he couldn't begin to guess who could bear his other half.

Once he was in prison, it had been more obvious. Partially undressed for a police intake, he'd seen the way Zeller's eyes kept straying to the ouroboros outlined on his upper arm. Will had been wearing long sleeves all summer when at work, but now his secret was out.

It wasn't until Will was acquitted and released, not until he came to start their sessions with Hannibal.

Hannibal had waited until the end of their session to roll up his right sleeve. Just past the elbow, right above that soft deadly place where a vein calmly thrummed. Will looked at it, the matching Mark, and had left without a word. Hannibal hadn't stopped him.

The windshield wipers aren't helping clear the road, but it feels more futile switching them off. Will pulls up in front of the low, tan apartment complex and barely spends enough time in the car to turn it off and grab his bag before he slams open his door against the wind.

In the time it takes to burst in through Cohle's unlocked front door, Will gets completely soaked. He squeaks in with dripping shoes, shoulders damp right down to the skin, hair plastered to his scalp and forehead and ears.

"You, uh, you home?" Cohle had texted only 'yes' when Will had asked to come over, hadn't offered anything else in reply. Will's not entirely sure he's here.

Or that he's ever been. Will looks around the room he's in, the kitchen-foyer, a small area covered in the shitty linoleum he'd known his whole childhood. A naked carpet stretches beyond it, through an empty living room with a tv and--

and a bed. Downstairs. In the living room.

Will just stares at it, breath still coming a bit hard after the car ride he's had, and slowly sinks back against the front door, shaking with breathless, soundless laughter.
