( at first, as he was growing, yuri didn't like the idea of soulmates.

knowing that there was someone out there he'd be expected to like and fall in love with and marry didn't sit well with him, always made him angry rather than excited, upset rather than happy. having a soulmate hadn't made his mother's life any easier, after all - why should he be expected to want one, when it didn't do anything but attach him to someone that he might not even like? it didn't seem fair.

at the time, yuri didn't know what a world in colour was like.

as he grew older, contrary to how people might think he would react - they naturally expected his old view of soulmates - he began to accept it. anticipate meeting his own, even. as he grew, others around him found their soulmates, and his grandfather would tell him stories of different people and what the world was like, tried to describe colour to him but could never really explain in a way that would make yuri feel how others did when they could finally see the green of trees, or the blue of the sky. he started to yearn for meeting his own.

yuri was skating the first time he saw her. she was in the stands, watching everyone on the rink skating, and he looked at her— and everything became wonderful. the ice turned blue, the walls turned red, he saw the pink of her lips and the blue of her eyes. it was incredible, and he suddenly understood why his grandfather had so much trouble describing colour to him. even now, yuri would be hard pressed to try himself.

he approaches her, they meet, and he's nervous but overjoyed. it's the best day of his life, and despite the fact that she lives in japan, he's determined to make it work. he'll sign up for any skating competition there he can, he'll make sure to visit her at any opportunity, invest in bringing her back to russia so that she can visit him, attend as many of her recitals as he can. some might think yuri seemed the opposite type to seem so invested, but now that he's found her, he can't let her go.

it's during his agape (where he's thinking of his grandfather and her but mostly her) in skate canada that the colour falters, and yuri messes up his spin. he falls, but he can still see the blue of the ice, so he shakes it off and carries on — and he places second, after that insufferable bastard jj, but he doesn't care. the colour had disappeared for a minute, and he's worried.

he's in japan as soon as he can be, limited in his time thanks to the approaching competition in russia. )

Kaori— ( god, he doesn't even know what to say. ) What the hell happened? Is everything okay? Are you okay? The colours... ( and he can't even finish. )

omg...brace yourselves...sad is coming

( for as long as she could remember, she had been eager to meet her soulmate.

how could she not when she had seen how happy her parents were, even that elderly couple that had faithfully visited her family bakery for years and her violin teacher with her husband, she had been excited for her soulmate to arrive and fill her world with colour and joy.

and she was going to admit it, even if it was to herself, that for long she had hoped for that person to be Kosei, watching him and hoping one day her world with explode with colours. thing is that her world did and when it happened it had been the most wonderful and bittersweet moment of her life.

ironically it had been a prodigy the one that had brought colours to her life, just not the one she had expected. when she had gone to that skating rink, she hadn't been prepared to finally say goodbye to her dreams with Kosei and been plunged into how wonderful her world with a soulmate could be.

maybe it was her luck that she was so quick to adapt or that Yuri was actually, well if she said so herself, so absolutely wonderful that she sound found herself thinking of golden hair and blue eyes, instead the colours she found on Kosei. she embraced it with all of her being and did all she could from her part to make it work, watching all his competitions, writing and she had even taken to learn russian.

she was happy, even her purpose of meeting Kosei, just as fellow musicians had come true once Tsubaki realized she had a soulmate and wasn't a threat. she had also been feeling betted than ever health wise, so much even her doctor was surprised and she hadn't thought to mentioned it to Yuri just yet.

...she should have known better. she wasn't surprised that Yuri had come, despite he had an important competition coming, it was the fact colours had flickered for him and...she just couldn't lie to him as she had with her friends in order to not worry them, she owned to her soulmate to be sincere.

so she told him about her illness, how she had been getting better but things were still delicate, about not knowing if she was going to die or not and that the staff was trying their best. )

I'm sorry...I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have... ( told him this before such an important competition, she moved to clean the tears that had started at some point. ) I'm sorry...you deserved a better soulmate.
