(CONTENT WARNING. This is a meme about death and may deal with suicide, depression, extreme violence, illnesses, etc.)

This is it. The final curtain. You're at the end of your life, and there's someone here you really, really need to say something to before you die.

CAUSE OF DEATH

1 - Accidental. Nobody meant for this to happen, but it doesn't matter now. Due to negligence, arrogance or just plain bad luck, you've become gravely ill or injured and are now in your last moments. This covers all kinds of accidental deaths--strangulation, drowning, car accidents, unintentional beheadings, whatever you can think of.

2 - Murder. Somebody really didn't like you. Enough to kill you, it seems. You're now dead by someone else's hand. (Maybe even the person replying to you?) As with accidental death, this covers all types of intentional, malicious murder, regardless of method--so poisoning, stabbing, shooting, etc., all work here. Same with all the below options: any possible variation you can think of on it will work!

3 - Suicide. There is no hope for you, and no way out. You've reached the absolute bottom pits of despair, and the only recourse you have is to take your own life. Someone shows up to stop you... but they're too late to help you now.

4 - Terminal illness. You have cancer, or tuberculosis, or cholera back when people got cholera. The doctors have done everything they could and it wasn't enough. The only thing to do now is give your loved ones the bad news.

5 - Starvation. So thirsty. So hungry. Maybe you've been traveling in the desert for hours, or maybe you're just really poor. Whatever the reason, it doesn't matter, because you're slowly wasting away until you're nothing but skin and bones.

6 - Death in battle. You've died a hero's death, and gone out in a blaze of glory. Or maybe you were a coward who got shot for deserting? Either way, you're now a casualty of war. Will you be honored with a parade or scorned as a traitor to your country?

7 - Natural causes. You've lived a long, happy life, and now your story is at an end. In a warm bed, surrounded by your family and friends, you peacefully drift off. Just make sure that you've made a will somewhere, or at least use your deathbed to set the record straight. Otherwise, who knows what kind of squabbles might errupt after you leave this world?

TIME LEFT

1 - A few minutes. You're fading fast and you don't have much, well, any time left. Better tell the person with you that you love -- or despise -- them with your last breath, because you'll never have the chance otherwise.

2 - A few hours. You haven't got much time left. Is there someone you still need to kill? To kiss? Better do it quick. (Note: last kisses not recommended for people dying of highly contagious illnesses.)

3 - A few days. The doctors have given you the news, and it's not very good. You've only got a couple days left to live. You should start trying to make peace with people and saying your final goodbyes with the days you have left.

4 - A few weeks. Take that vacation you've always wanted to go on but never had the chance to. Go do that thing you've never thought you'd be any good at. You've got only weeks left to live. Don't waste them.

5 - A few months. While you aren't quite on death's doorstep yet, your lifespan has still dwindled considerably from what you probably thought it would be. How are you going to spend your last few months on Earth? Making the world a better place and telling your family you love them? Or raising as much hell as possible?

RELATIONSHIP

1 - Lovers. This is your husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, mistress, whatever you call them they were the person you wanted to spend your life with. Too bad you don't have much of a life to spend with them anymore.

2 - Siblings. Your beloved little or older sibling is just standing there, watching you slowly waste away before their eyes. Can you say anything to comfort them? Note that it doesn't necessarily have to be interpreted literally; adopted siblings and friends so close they might as well be siblings work too.

3 - Parent and child. Nothing is worse than a parent having to bury their child... except, maybe, a young child now alone in the world after losing their parent. As with the sibling prompt, this can be expanded to include parental figures and people who are LIKE a father/mother to you as well as actual biological parents.

4 - Co-workers, teammates or classmates. You were fighting for the same side. Or you worked together in the same office for years. Or they sat behind you in biology all semester. However you met, how do your react when you find out someone who used to be a fixture in your life is going to die?

5 - Friends. You're the best of friends! You go everywhere together, know all each other's secrets, and are never seen apart. At least, you didn't use to be. Now one of you is dying and the other one is left alone in the world. Or maybe you're dying together. Wait, is that better or worse?

6 - Bitter enemies. You hate, hate, HATE this person. In fact, maybe you killed them. Or they killed you. Or maybe nobody killed anybody and they're just bitter that Mother Nature got to you before they did. Regardless, they want to confront you one last time before you bite it, if only to rub your nose in your imminent demise and their ability to outlive you.

4. Have fun!

[ Yu had to bite back a laugh, trying to at least appear supportive, even though he looked like it was hurting him to keep his laughter back. ]

Maybe he didn't tell you because you were happy to have another name.

[ Either that, or he was just trolling her. He could see him doing either. ]

[ She did not seem at all comforted by blissful ignorance if only because she is as stubborn as the Thunder God she knows herself. Loki still is happy to be rid of a small part of her past, but the meaning of his last name just roots itself in yet another problem she would rather forget. ]

He has never been particularly romantic. I suspect he thought it was funny I had no idea.

[ She pursed her lips. ]

Especially since you can't seem to keep a straight face. You're as bad as he is. [ Loki should stop pouting or her face might get stuck that way. Even if she sounds cross, she'll get over it.....eventually. ]

[ A small snicker escaped from Yu at that, but he reigned it back in, covering his mouth with a hand and giving her an apologetic look. He approached after a moment, a kind look in his eyes. ]

If you keep making that face, I'm going to have to kiss it away before it stays there.

[ ...he can be unintentionally suave sometimes, and other times, there was this. ]

[ Her facade of annoyance doesn't seem to break as she appraises him with mild disinterest--that broke into a small smile. ]

I'd like to see you try.

[ Loki reaches for wrenching a finger against his chest. ]

It's your fault I'm making said face in the first place.

[ For a moment, Yu's expression was entirely serious, like he was taking her challenge and her claim entirely seriously... and then he dipped down and planted a quick little teasing kiss on her lips. ]

Tried.

[ Moments like these are complicated for her. Her own nerves get the better of her any time he's close and she feels disgustingly lovesick at how simple it is for even the faintest kiss to make her happy. Or how just having him around makes her days less jaded. She knows she's being unfair because as much as she wants to fall in love with him for who he is, not the other version she knew, a part of her misses her Yu so much she justifies being affectionate as a coping mechanism.

To save face she huffs, shooing him away as if she hadn't wanted the kiss in the first place as she slips off the table. ]

Try harder. [ When she does turn away from him it's just so she can smile, keeping that silent moment to herself while she can. She also puts a charm on his bag so they don't have to carry it around the airship. It should arrive in the hotel room once the charm is activated. ]

[ Yu didn't comment, but he did grin behind her back, trying not to be overly pleased by that. ]

[ He had to be actually told not to grab his bag, because why would he ever think of transportation magic in that way? Sometimes, he could be a ridiculous dork. ]

[ This only was exemplified by the fact that he was practically like a puppy dog once they were on the ship. He stuck close to Loki, of course, but at the same time, he was trying to look around at everything around him at once. Because of this, he nearly tripped over himself and Loki more than once, and he at least managed to apologize for it. Of course, he didn't really stop either, so engrossed in all the technology and steam power around him. ]

Is the whole town like this? How many ships are there?

[ Oh, and there were questions. There were so many questions. ]

[ It worked in his favor that he couldn't contain himself because it was just too damn cute to watch. She tried to keep up as best she could, explaining some of the elements of the ship here and there. Once they finally got to the railing at the edge she grinned, climbing up on it a little to see over the side. ]

This is just the one from Carne and it's much smaller than the cruisers from Onsra. But yes, most of Carne is highly technical in appearance. They like the aesthetic, I think.

[ She drew him closer. ] See, down there is the college. They built that clock tower, I think, twenty years ago. It doesn't tell the time but it predicts major solar, lunar, and astrological events. Most of Mokosh's customs are centered around their belief systems in different gods, goddesses, and the supernatural. [ However the concept of deity was somewhat not as celebrated as one might think. They honor them but with so many it's just a part of the culture and everyday life rather than the typical idea of worship. Gods and Goddesses on Mokosh aren't worshipped with massive shrines and the like. ] I think we might be able to visit it. I know the head of the school right now. His name is Waver Velvet.

[ When she pulled him close, he reached around her, resting his hand on her hip and listening closely to what she had to say. He was excited -- practically radiating enthusiasm and if he had a tail, it would probably be wagging at a million miles an hour. ]

Yes, please.

[ A pause. ]

Would I be able to enroll there some time?

[ Unconsciously she leaned just a touch toward him. ]

Well, if you'd like. There are quite a few different universities and colleges scattered between the nearby cities. This one focuses on engineering though not in the conventional sense.

[ Otherwise she couldn't imagine Waver being attracted to that kind of work. His is a mage after all and his brand of magic meshes well with all it's rules. ]

They have one dedicated to sex magic. [ She laughed. ] It's as fun as it sounds.

[ Yu let out an awkward noise, turning a brilliant shade of red. He turned to the side, letting out a cough, before giving her a little squeeze, as if reprimanding her for making him embarrassed again. ]

Well, maybe not here then. I was thinking...

[ He paused, still looking a bit embarrassed. ]

...I was thinking I wanted to join the police force back home. Maybe work toward being a detective. Not sure how that would work here, though.

[ Forgive her if she breaks into snickers. She has been an Erosian almost a century. Such reservations toward sex long left her mind, even if some small bits and pieces are still there from her insecurities. ]

There is a police academy in Eros, if you are that interested. [ She couldn't see Yu doing police work, but she smiled slightly. This version of him has the temperament for it, perhaps. ] The process is probably the same? I can't say, but the renovated academy was established by someone from earth.

[ She slides off the railing overlooking the Carne. ]

However, you should be careful who you trust if you decide to go into law enforcement here.

[ Yu paused at that, turning so he was leaning his back against the railing. ]

Why's that?

[ He could kind of guess; this place didn't exactly seem like the most lawful of places, but he wanted to actually hear it. ]

There is an abundance of gang activity in Eros.

[ She decides to go for the more vague explanation than just outright saying the Maeve have control of most things due to their extended lifetimes. ]

Figures.

[ He smiled sheepishly at that. ]

I guess a cop with nothing to lose trying to bring law and order would get swamped pretty quickly.

[ He seemed entirely too amused by that, despite the fact that it meant one of his goals was essentially not happening now. ]

No, it just means you have to be cognizant of who you befriend. Not everyone has the law in mind when they choose to operate in Eros or Onsra.

[ He'll be swamped in work regardless because, despite appearance, Eros has a lot of other activity related to newer gangs that is easily taken down. He just has to hope he never busts one of the Maeve's operations. They have their spider's web of connections cast large. ]

I think you'd make a good detective, for what it's worth.

[ Yu turned a little pink at that, looking away almost shyly. ]

[ He peered back at her after a moment, and it was clear he was happy about that. ]

I'm following behind a couple pretty big shadows if I decide to go that way. I think it would be worth it, though.

[ Once they're in the city, off the airship she relaxes a lot more. The Maeve may have a lot of pull in Eros but they didn't rule the entire planet. They couldn't. Here? They had the freedom to move around a little more freely which left Loki smiling a bit easier as she took Yu's hand. ]

They'll take our things to the hotel but I'd like to show you something since you're interested in the police force.

[ Carne actually had a museum for inventions used specifically for investigation thanks to a few different off worlders; Sherlock Holmes, Jessica Jones, and someone who insisted on going by the name Castle. ] Unless you'd like to relax a little first?

[ A curious look lit up Yu's face at that, and it was a moment before a smile broke out on his face. ]

I think I'm too worked up from the trip to rest. Let's go.

Why don't we start with the police academy here? They don't have as much crime but you can get a taste of how Carne operates. It's similar to Eros.

[ Mostly anyway. The streets aren't quite as clean, but there are no homeless--as with Eros--and nothing looked out of place. All the buildings looked like they were carved from the same type of stone and updating with steampunk-esque contraptions. Here, they valued fixing what they already had to be more efficient than tossing it away as waste.

One could say Carne leaves a very light carbon footprint, despite looking like it was in the middle of some industrial revolution. ]

[ Yu's eyes lit up even more on that, and he was practically latched onto Loki's heels with how quickly and closely he stepped next to her. ]

Y-yes. Yes please.

[ The police academy isn't too far of a walk. A lot like those present in other realms, there are plenty of different buildings. Some look like small airplane hangers and others are more elaborate. Getting a tour isn't hard either when magic can track what others are doing and if they go off the path of the tour. ]

The one in Eros is larger but, over there. [ She pointed just off to the right. ] They run all the soon to be officers through different scenarios. Active shooter, and the like.

[ It's a little strange to be explaining this when she had it explained to her. Her Yu did not become a detective but he did plenty of research. She often wondered if something was holding him back. ]

[ Yu hung on her every word, trying to look around at everything at once. He finally paused when she stopped talking, turning a curious gaze to her. ]

...did the other me join law enforcement?

No. I suspect he never thought he was good enough to follow in his uncle's footsteps.

[ Or rather he felt too guilty. She never asked for specifics. It wasn't her place to pry. ]

I knew he was interested by no amount of my encouragement could change anything. Then again I suppose it would be hard to be a detective when you're dating a god who has a reputation for committing war crimes.

Yeah, I imagine that would be difficult for a detective's career.
