(CONTENT WARNING. This is a meme about death and may deal with suicide, depression, extreme violence, illnesses, etc.)

This is it. The final curtain. You're at the end of your life, and there's someone here you really, really need to say something to before you die.

CAUSE OF DEATH

1 - Accidental. Nobody meant for this to happen, but it doesn't matter now. Due to negligence, arrogance or just plain bad luck, you've become gravely ill or injured and are now in your last moments. This covers all kinds of accidental deaths--strangulation, drowning, car accidents, unintentional beheadings, whatever you can think of.

2 - Murder. Somebody really didn't like you. Enough to kill you, it seems. You're now dead by someone else's hand. (Maybe even the person replying to you?) As with accidental death, this covers all types of intentional, malicious murder, regardless of method--so poisoning, stabbing, shooting, etc., all work here. Same with all the below options: any possible variation you can think of on it will work!

3 - Suicide. There is no hope for you, and no way out. You've reached the absolute bottom pits of despair, and the only recourse you have is to take your own life. Someone shows up to stop you... but they're too late to help you now.

4 - Terminal illness. You have cancer, or tuberculosis, or cholera back when people got cholera. The doctors have done everything they could and it wasn't enough. The only thing to do now is give your loved ones the bad news.

5 - Starvation. So thirsty. So hungry. Maybe you've been traveling in the desert for hours, or maybe you're just really poor. Whatever the reason, it doesn't matter, because you're slowly wasting away until you're nothing but skin and bones.

6 - Death in battle. You've died a hero's death, and gone out in a blaze of glory. Or maybe you were a coward who got shot for deserting? Either way, you're now a casualty of war. Will you be honored with a parade or scorned as a traitor to your country?

7 - Natural causes. You've lived a long, happy life, and now your story is at an end. In a warm bed, surrounded by your family and friends, you peacefully drift off. Just make sure that you've made a will somewhere, or at least use your deathbed to set the record straight. Otherwise, who knows what kind of squabbles might errupt after you leave this world?

TIME LEFT

1 - A few minutes. You're fading fast and you don't have much, well, any time left. Better tell the person with you that you love -- or despise -- them with your last breath, because you'll never have the chance otherwise.

2 - A few hours. You haven't got much time left. Is there someone you still need to kill? To kiss? Better do it quick. (Note: last kisses not recommended for people dying of highly contagious illnesses.)

3 - A few days. The doctors have given you the news, and it's not very good. You've only got a couple days left to live. You should start trying to make peace with people and saying your final goodbyes with the days you have left.

4 - A few weeks. Take that vacation you've always wanted to go on but never had the chance to. Go do that thing you've never thought you'd be any good at. You've got only weeks left to live. Don't waste them.

5 - A few months. While you aren't quite on death's doorstep yet, your lifespan has still dwindled considerably from what you probably thought it would be. How are you going to spend your last few months on Earth? Making the world a better place and telling your family you love them? Or raising as much hell as possible?

RELATIONSHIP

1 - Lovers. This is your husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, mistress, whatever you call them they were the person you wanted to spend your life with. Too bad you don't have much of a life to spend with them anymore.

2 - Siblings. Your beloved little or older sibling is just standing there, watching you slowly waste away before their eyes. Can you say anything to comfort them? Note that it doesn't necessarily have to be interpreted literally; adopted siblings and friends so close they might as well be siblings work too.

3 - Parent and child. Nothing is worse than a parent having to bury their child... except, maybe, a young child now alone in the world after losing their parent. As with the sibling prompt, this can be expanded to include parental figures and people who are LIKE a father/mother to you as well as actual biological parents.

4 - Co-workers, teammates or classmates. You were fighting for the same side. Or you worked together in the same office for years. Or they sat behind you in biology all semester. However you met, how do your react when you find out someone who used to be a fixture in your life is going to die?

5 - Friends. You're the best of friends! You go everywhere together, know all each other's secrets, and are never seen apart. At least, you didn't use to be. Now one of you is dying and the other one is left alone in the world. Or maybe you're dying together. Wait, is that better or worse?

6 - Bitter enemies. You hate, hate, HATE this person. In fact, maybe you killed them. Or they killed you. Or maybe nobody killed anybody and they're just bitter that Mother Nature got to you before they did. Regardless, they want to confront you one last time before you bite it, if only to rub your nose in your imminent demise and their ability to outlive you.

3. Tell the person what you need to tell them before you bite it.
4. Have fun!

[ Clearly she wasn't used to such a thing, and he'll only catch it in the way she laughs. She lead them into the gun range, handing Yu the gear he needed. She used the same, even if the noise wasn't enough to damage her hearing, the few minutes of ringing she had were always annoying afterward. ]

Have you ever used any other projectiles?

[ Yu paused a moment, considering... ]

Does throwing a wrench at Yosuke count?

[ Not really, but... ]

Wrenches do not have enough kick back to sprain your wrist.

[ Though it is sort of comical imagining Yu, of all people, throwing wrenches at someone. She loaded the handgun and offer it up to him. ]

At any rate you'll need to hold it with both hands. Your good arm is used for aiming and you're going to use your other for stabilization. [ A sly smile. ] Aside from that, they're pretty easy to use.

[ It was totally an accident! ...sort of. ]

[ Yu nodded patiently, raising the weapon like Loki instructed, but... he seemed to freeze up for a moment, like something just sprang to the back of his mind. He hesitated, before lowering the weapon. ]

Ah... maybe not. Sorry.

Why ever not?

[ It's going to be very difficult for him to work as a police officer if he can't shoot a gun, especially on Mokosh. ]

[ Yu was quiet for a moment, before he let out a sigh, shaking his head like he was reprimanding himself. ]

...I had tried to talk to Adachi-san alone, when we realized he was the one responsible for the murders back home. He fired his gun at me.

[ He smiled sadly, letting out a faint laugh. ]

I guess it bothers me more than I thought it did.

[ It isn't so much that Loki doesn't understand. She has spent enough time around humans to know they have particularly delicate sensibilities but she takes the gun from his hand.

If he isn't going to use it, she will. Using the shooting range isn't free. ]

And are you expecting the Academy to pity you when you tell them that?

[ Maybe it's heartless to say, but she doesn't wait for his answer. She isn't as good with firearms, but good enough to drop someone after two or three shoots. It isn't as if she uses these regularly, but the fact that her main skill is projectiles helps. ]

I don't know. Maybe I'll be able to split a bullet in half with a sword by then.

[ He hung back as she fired, still a bit tense, but less so since he wasn't the one holding the gun. ]

Swords aren't very efficient long range.

[ Maybe he might be able to, maybe not. She couldn't tell if he was being serious, either, which wasn't a comfortable place to be in.

It is about time she stopped thinking both of them were the same person. They aren't. Their differences were more noticeable as time passed.

She lowered the gun to reload it. ]

Perhaps you should just avoid any field work until you get used to it.

That sounds like a good idea.

[ More importantly though... ]

...I thought a god would be a better shot.

[ For someone that inwardly freaked out over holding the damn gun, he was still a sassy little brat. ]

Says the boy who cannot fire a gun.

[ Loki gave him a contempt look. They didn't use guns in Asgard, for good reason. They didn't need them. ]

I'm mortal.

[ BECAUSE THAT'S TOTALLY A GOOD EXCUSE??? It was clear from the smile that Yu was struggling to keep back that he was only joking around. ]

I suppose you won't be cutting anything with a sword anytime soon either. It's a shame, really. I might have been impressed.

[ She knows he's joking and yet she still doesn't appreciate being insulted. Go figure. ]

[ It's pretty clear he poked a button too hard, and Yu's smile dies, an apologetic look coming to his face. ]

I'm sorry.

Why?

[ Loki pulled the protective glasses from her eyes. ]

Because you're allowed to be afraid of guns but I'm not allowed to be a little less than perfect?

[ Loki shakes her head. ]

Forget it. It isn't worth apologizing for.

[ ...yeah, when she put it like that, it really did make him sound like a dick. He bowed politely, an apologetic look on his face. ]

It was rude. I'm very sorry.

[ Her eyes followed him as he bowed, not entirely sure why it made her feel so uncomfortable. ]

I said it's fine. [ This was the part she didn't want to relearn--boundaries. ] At any rate there is more to see here and plenty of available officials to speak with.

[ Yu nodded at that, though he didn't look entirely satisfied with her response. He was going to have to make it up to her later. ]

Okay.

[ Loki swept it under the rug quickly deciding it was for the best rather than bothering with her own, often contrary, sensibilities. This is what wasn't worth honoring Yu's request.

She waved him along, paying the fee on the way out happy to be back in open air.

The problem is she didn't have much to say so she let the walk over to the Academy's academic hall stay silent. ]

[ This got uncomfortable quickly, and it was entirely his fault too. Yu glanced up at the Academy as they approached, not sure if he really wanted to go in with things the way they were right now. ]

[ Before they could get to the steps of the Academy, he reached out, taking her hand. ]

...let's eat first. My treat?

[ Granted he wasn't the one with a fortune, but... ]

While I have no objections. . .

[ She would follow either way, except he did need to know one thing. ]

I don't expect you to make up for every little transgression. [ Loki carded a hand through her hair, mostly looking for something to fuss with. ] I'm not very tolerable to be around at the moment. Grief isn't a good look for me.

[ Her admitting as much is testament to how much changed over the years just from being away from Asgard. She might never get her power hungry nature out of her system, but she did learn how to cope a bit better. She also got used to admitting to her faults no matter how much it rankled her pride. ]

[ Yu paused at that, a somber expression on his face. He had to ask; it was something that was going to be hovering over his head, so it was best to get it out now. ]

...how long has it been?

[ She knew exactly how long it had been. She could even tell him when Fayt died, but Loki tries to keep her expression neutral. ]

Almost eight months.

[ So... not all that long ago, especially for a god. Yu's shoulders fell slightly, a soft expression coming to his face. ]

I'm sorry.

Now you know why I still had so many of your things by the time you had appeared at my doorstep.

[ She hadn't gotten around to packing anything of theirs. No, as backwards as her personality is, her coping mechanisms are equally so. She still doesn't even sleep in her own bed, not usually. She's always in the room just down the hall from hers--Yu's room.

Out of habit, her hand rose to tip his chin up. ]

I'm fine. Don't worry so much.
