(CONTENT WARNING. This is a meme about death and may deal with suicide, depression, extreme violence, illnesses, etc.)

This is it. The final curtain. You're at the end of your life, and there's someone here you really, really need to say something to before you die.

CAUSE OF DEATH

1 - Accidental. Nobody meant for this to happen, but it doesn't matter now. Due to negligence, arrogance or just plain bad luck, you've become gravely ill or injured and are now in your last moments. This covers all kinds of accidental deaths--strangulation, drowning, car accidents, unintentional beheadings, whatever you can think of.

2 - Murder. Somebody really didn't like you. Enough to kill you, it seems. You're now dead by someone else's hand. (Maybe even the person replying to you?) As with accidental death, this covers all types of intentional, malicious murder, regardless of method--so poisoning, stabbing, shooting, etc., all work here. Same with all the below options: any possible variation you can think of on it will work!

3 - Suicide. There is no hope for you, and no way out. You've reached the absolute bottom pits of despair, and the only recourse you have is to take your own life. Someone shows up to stop you... but they're too late to help you now.

4 - Terminal illness. You have cancer, or tuberculosis, or cholera back when people got cholera. The doctors have done everything they could and it wasn't enough. The only thing to do now is give your loved ones the bad news.

5 - Starvation. So thirsty. So hungry. Maybe you've been traveling in the desert for hours, or maybe you're just really poor. Whatever the reason, it doesn't matter, because you're slowly wasting away until you're nothing but skin and bones.

6 - Death in battle. You've died a hero's death, and gone out in a blaze of glory. Or maybe you were a coward who got shot for deserting? Either way, you're now a casualty of war. Will you be honored with a parade or scorned as a traitor to your country?

7 - Natural causes. You've lived a long, happy life, and now your story is at an end. In a warm bed, surrounded by your family and friends, you peacefully drift off. Just make sure that you've made a will somewhere, or at least use your deathbed to set the record straight. Otherwise, who knows what kind of squabbles might errupt after you leave this world?

TIME LEFT

1 - A few minutes. You're fading fast and you don't have much, well, any time left. Better tell the person with you that you love -- or despise -- them with your last breath, because you'll never have the chance otherwise.

2 - A few hours. You haven't got much time left. Is there someone you still need to kill? To kiss? Better do it quick. (Note: last kisses not recommended for people dying of highly contagious illnesses.)

3 - A few days. The doctors have given you the news, and it's not very good. You've only got a couple days left to live. You should start trying to make peace with people and saying your final goodbyes with the days you have left.

4 - A few weeks. Take that vacation you've always wanted to go on but never had the chance to. Go do that thing you've never thought you'd be any good at. You've got only weeks left to live. Don't waste them.

5 - A few months. While you aren't quite on death's doorstep yet, your lifespan has still dwindled considerably from what you probably thought it would be. How are you going to spend your last few months on Earth? Making the world a better place and telling your family you love them? Or raising as much hell as possible?

RELATIONSHIP

1 - Lovers. This is your husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, mistress, whatever you call them they were the person you wanted to spend your life with. Too bad you don't have much of a life to spend with them anymore.

2 - Siblings. Your beloved little or older sibling is just standing there, watching you slowly waste away before their eyes. Can you say anything to comfort them? Note that it doesn't necessarily have to be interpreted literally; adopted siblings and friends so close they might as well be siblings work too.

3 - Parent and child. Nothing is worse than a parent having to bury their child... except, maybe, a young child now alone in the world after losing their parent. As with the sibling prompt, this can be expanded to include parental figures and people who are LIKE a father/mother to you as well as actual biological parents.

4 - Co-workers, teammates or classmates. You were fighting for the same side. Or you worked together in the same office for years. Or they sat behind you in biology all semester. However you met, how do your react when you find out someone who used to be a fixture in your life is going to die?

5 - Friends. You're the best of friends! You go everywhere together, know all each other's secrets, and are never seen apart. At least, you didn't use to be. Now one of you is dying and the other one is left alone in the world. Or maybe you're dying together. Wait, is that better or worse?

6 - Bitter enemies. You hate, hate, HATE this person. In fact, maybe you killed them. Or they killed you. Or maybe nobody killed anybody and they're just bitter that Mother Nature got to you before they did. Regardless, they want to confront you one last time before you bite it, if only to rub your nose in your imminent demise and their ability to outlive you.

[ Yu had a bit of a mysterious smile on his face when he felt the familiar tingle of a bond formed, but he doesn't say anything. Instead, he allowed her to tug him along, following after her dutifully. ]

I've been meaning to ask about that... about your gender. Aren't you technically both if you can change on a whim?

[ It's only appropriate, right? She hadn't realized when, exactly, she had fallen in love with him last time. It only makes sense she falls in love with him first instead of the other way around. Bonds are strange things. ]

The plaza splits off from the Academy campus into where more civilians mix in with those attending to the school. Right now, there isn't much traffic but there must be a class going on. Loki is only momentarily distracted by the intricate clockwork design of the buildings before she has to entertain his question. ]

Technically I can, [ A flash of green. While this time she happens to use her power of illusion, it is the same principle. ] masquerade as you as well. [ Right down to his voice, even. The illusion fades as quickly as it was cast. ] But I suppose you could say I have both genders. It's never mattered to me much one way or the other.

[ Yu stopped when Loki turned into him, and for a moment he looked worried. But then Loki was back to herself, and he let out a sheepish noise, scratching at the side of his face. ]

...even though I knew it was you, seeing someone else as myself is unsettling.

[ Ways Loki can play pranks on Yu: change into him and add yellow eyes. ]

But I understand.

I'm not going to steal your identity. [ She smiled slightly, chuckling. ]

I promise.

I hope not. My Shadow is bad enough to deal with, I don't need someone shadowing me.

[ ...yes, that was an attempt at a pun. The sheepish expression on his face just screams that he knows it was fucking awful. ]

[ Was that a flash of yellow in her eyes? It's hard to say but Loki still has a knowing smile as she rounds the corner and leads them into a quaint coffee shop. ]

What's the fun in having only one mask to wear?

[ She picks a table near the windows. ]

[ ...something tells him that Loki unmasked would be terrifying, and he was afraid to say as much. He paused, before shaking his head, a weak little smile coming to his face. ]

I'll take your word on that.

[ He pulled a chair out for her first, ever the gentlemen. ]

[ Not as terrifying as he thinks. Some wear masks to hide their inner demons, but Loki is far simpler. She has the personality she does to protect the very fragile core she had been given. She wanted the glory of a king but had the sensitivity of china tea cup, easy to shatter but incredibly clever in picking up on emotion and strategy. ]

Still not female. [ She resisted a laugh and just let herself snicker as she sunk down into the chair offered for her. ] Who knew you had manners. [ She's teasing. . .mostly. ]

That doesn't keep me from being a gentlemen.

[ He offered her a bit of a casual smirk, before sliding into his own seat. It was very clear in his expression too: he was going to make a point of providing Loki a chair even when he was male, just to tease him with kindness. ]

I have plenty of manners.

Indeed. [ Though she should keep her comments to herself. No, no it most certainly isn't attractive at all that he tries. Don't even dream of it. ]

Is that what you tell all the pretty girls who darken your doorstep? [ Loki leans forward on the table, wearing a serpentine smile. ] It's no wonder people pine after you. [ She breaks her act for just a moment. She even looks cheerful, if he can imagine, for a fleeting second. ] You're both charming, confident or otherwise.

[ Yu raised an eyebrow at that, before he rested his chin in his hand. ]

Like you pine for me?

[ His tone is light and teasing, but there's a bit of an intensity in his eyes that clearly says he doesn't mind the attention one bit. ]

[ Loki leans back in her chair, cavalier: ]

Is that what you think I'm doing? [ There may be the slightest bit of tenderness in her gaze for him, but she hasn't notice it slipping. She hasn't noticed how easy it is to cave to her old habits of flirting with him either. ] Should I add egotistical to the list as well?

Maybe just, 'annoying habit of being right', instead.

[ Look, he was allowed to flirt when it was obvious the other person was clearly interested. Besides, Loki made it really easy to do. ]

Fine. [ She almost sounds as if she might give him some other scathing retort just to tell him how not right he is, but instead-- ] So I am pining after you. What of it?

[ Loki doesn't give a chance to answer. ]

Did you want to order?

[ Yu doesn't need the time to answer; he just smiles, and that's probably infuriating enough on it's own. Instead, he turned his focus down to the menu, looking over what was available. ]

What would you suggest?

Why don't we share something? You might like their seafood.

[ She nudged him under the table with her foot. ]

Stop being so smug if you are going to flirt with me.

[ Yu smiled patiently at her jibe at him, taking advantage of her nudging at him to gently rub her leg with his foot. ]

But you make it so easy.

I'm curious, [ If she thought she could get away with it she might soak in every bit of physical affection he was willing to give her, but this was enough for right now, right? ] how are you already so sure you know what my mannerisms might be?

[ She never did ask Yu why he had an annoying habit of being right. What was it that gave him such intuition? ]

[ Yu smiled softly. ]

My powers revolve around being able to bond with other people. It's important for me to be able to sense what other people are feeling.

[ He leaned back in his chair, a kindly expression on his face. ]

Besides, I like being able to help people. If I can do that by being able to pick up on an individual's mannerisms and emotions, then it'll be good for them.

You're almost painfully innocent. [ She smiles, shaking her head. ] You read people to help them, and I read them to manipulate them.

[ She smirked. ]

I'm still surprised we manage to get along.

Probably because I can call you out when you're lying.

[ A bit of a mischievous look came to his eyes. ]

I have a feeling not many people do that to you.

Can you?

[ People expect Loki to be malicious and when she isn't they falter. That's how they're all so predictable without her even lifting a finger. She just has to say something. ]

I could have been lying to you this whole time and you wouldn't know the difference. [ Now she's needlessly prodding because she's curious. He is right. Not many people can do what he does. They don't think for themselves and she has little to no interest in them if they're generic. ]

Not really.

[ Yu paused a moment as the waitress arrived, taking their orders. He settled back in his chair a moment before answering. ]

When you're lying, or at least trying to hide the truth, you focus on it a little too hard. Like you're so confident that you know others won't realize you're lying, but you have to concentrate that much harder to make certain of it.

[ It's telling how she leans in, resting her head on her hand listening to what he has to say sans one minor interruption. ]

Do you know how long I've been alive? [ She brushed her foot against his leg. ] Try to think about how very few people I've met who can do that because they're paying attention.

[ She smiled, genuinely. ]

I've married all five and outlived two.

I can only guess.

[ He smiled softly at the touch. ]

And they've made you happy?
