MINOR INJURIES MEME

You or your meme partner has been hurt, but don't worry! This time around it's not that bad. You can still limp your way out of this mess.

INJURIES.
1. Sprain/strain. How did you screw up walking?
2. Broken bones. Simple fractures still hurt.
3. Cuts. Hopefully one of you has a sewing kit.
4. Burns. Location, location, location. Let's pray this one isn't on your ass.
5. Concussion. No, they're most likely not holding up fifteen fingers.
6. Other. I'm not a doctor.

HOW'D IT HAPPEN.
1. Stupidity. You did this to yourself.
2. Accident. Is an unintentional attack still an attack?
3. Attack. Don't lie, you deserved it.
4. Other. It's probably still your own fault.

WHERE'D IT HAPPEN.
1. Home. Did you remember to invest in a first aid kit?
2. School/Work. This should be excellent for getting you out of doing stuff!
3. Outdoors. Predators like the smell of blood. Clean up asap.
4. In the water. Hopefully there aren't any sharks!
5. Other. Like a hospital. That'd be handy.

[He grunts low at the answer, his own lips twisting into a frown at the thought. Stupid, careless. He didn't teach Hanzo better than that- how could he, when the two of them had just barely met, ran a few missions with each other? He let Hanzo have free run, trusted his decisions. Most of them, anyway. This would be in the latter category, however.] Was the close range necessary?

[There's a sideways glance to the other man's quiver before he shifts to get a better look at the wound, frowning.] There's shrapnel in you. Gotta get it out if you actually want this treated.

[With that, he moves to take off his glove, frowning.] It's gonna hurt worse.

[Disapproving grunts he can ignore, rubbing in his mistake he cannot. Hanzo knows better than to snap at the man assisting him, but he does narrow his eyes to shoot a menacing glance over to 76 in warning not to continue down that path.] I did not know that it was there, so when I saw it I knew it had to be destroyed.

[This reminds him of how it felt to be lectured by his father, and although it's still an irritating process a part of him feels as though he misses it.] Remove it. I will be fine.

[He keeps his eyes on the wound, making sure to watch closely and remember the pain to come so that he will be deterred from making the same careless mistake once again.]

[76 isn't subtle. He hardly takes hints well and the glare just makes him want to push further. Better he get it out in the open now than the rest of them for paying the price later. Hanzo though- he seems hard on himself already, so he relents in favor of treating the wound properly. There's a time and a place. Hanzo has no reason for him to pull a lecture out now.

Especially when this is going to be hard to forget. He pockets the glove and washes his hand best he can, the skin rough and blistered from work before. A breath and he keeps his other hand braced against the other's chest, shifting to push Hanzo against the crate they were working on so there was some support at least.
] Think good thoughts.

[And his fingers dig in, nail clawing at the bits of shrapnel. He gets out at least three pieces before the fourth is the hardest to remove, 76 drawing his hand away when he gets it, tossing it to the side and getting a good look at Hanzo's face.] Still with me?
yakiniku: (問題ない)

[personal profile] yakiniku 2016-08-03 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Hanzo recalled enough lecturing and shouting going on during the mission and it was still so fresh in his memory that he'd rather not have to hear any more of it. On top of the stress and pain he was likely to lose his patience quickly.

With his body weak from the battle he's unable to resist the push the way he might attempt to otherwise. He reminds himself that 76 is occasionally insufferable but right now he is helping. Most of his weight settles against the crate, but the advice falls on deaf ears as the old soldier literally scrapes the bits of metal out.

Hanzo grimaces and grunts but doesn't allow himself to scream or shout, but he does swear under his breath in his native tongue. This pain is temporary. It will pass. The words repeat in his head over and over until 76 is finished and he's left with a less intense aching pain afterward.
] Barely. What would you have done had I passed out?

[He's asking more out of curiosity than anything, or maybe he's just looking for a distraction.]

[It's medieval, in an age where technology allows them greater things. It's what he knows, in all honesty. He doesn't think about that however, focuses on getting everything out before he runs the rest of his water over the wound, dabbing at it with the gauze. He notes the way that Hanzo reacts, frowns and shakes his head as he listens, eyes on the wound.] Finish up as best as I could, I guess.

[It isn't said nonchalantly, it's only a matter of fact with 76. He would have made sure Hanzo was fine, then finished. He checks his back pocket with his gloved hand, shifts to set a pulse beacon down on the crate behind Hanzo. It won't be enough to heal the damage immediately, not with the energy left in it. Used the damn thing too much on a mission. He continues what he was doing, moves to clasp a hand over the wound, a bandage between them to apply pressure.] If you passed out, though. Guess that would reflect poorly on me.

Would you be mad, when you woke up later?

[There must have been things more unpleasant than a man picking out scraps of metal from gashes in his arms with his bare hands. Unfortunately nothing came to mind, but thankful that part of the process was over. For now. That was his main injury and the rest would resolve themselves in time near the warm pulsing light. Did they even have any time?

Hanzo hissed when 76 pressed the bandage to the wound with enough pressure that he can only assume that the older man is attempting to stop the bleeding.
] Allow me. [It's more of a demand than a request as he places his hand on top of the one already there to apply strong enough pressure to show that he can take over.]

On both of us. I was trained to withstand a great deal of pain. To pass out would be shameful for me, heh. [A smile.] Possibly. I would be a great many things. Grateful would be among those things. [Hanzo carefully turns himself to face 76 with his hand still applying pressure as he looks over the soldier.] Are you injured?

[At the least? Neither of them is willing to say that the act is intimate as a joke. That's one of the last things on Soldier's mind. He's a little distracted however, exhaustion wearing at the back of his head because there isn't just Hanzo to worry about, it's the rest of the team that isn't already being attended to by the other supports. He considers them, stills when there's a hand on top of his, heavy and just as warm as his. He watches the other, tilts his head before relinquishing control of that to him, hand sliding out so he can search himself for other necessities.] All right. You want some painkillers?

[A pause as he listens, barely a glance up for the answer and he can't help but find himself smiling, although the action goes missed with his mask. He shakes his head at the question, looking down to his hand, the fingers curling as he makes an assessment of himself.] Couple of grazes from the turret. Don't think I took anything as bad.

[His jacket's torn down his right side, a few tears from bullets he barely missed, some that almost hit. The bleeding's stopped by now but the exposure could be a thing that gets him if he doesn't treat them right.]

Why, you wanna return the favor?

[Hanzo is feeling a similar relief because had it been anyone else tending to his injuries he was sure they would make some such statement. Pain and awkward closeness aside, the situation was starting to improve. Hanzo tugs the fabric holding his hair up and quickly wraps the thing around his arm a few times to tie the bandage in place securely. It takes a bit of concentration and the use of his teeth to get it done with one hand but once he's through he glances up to shake his head at the old solder.]

Perhaps I should have stood behind you. [It's a joke but he's too bitter about the failed mission to properly laugh. Instead he examines the older man, tugging his jacket aside to examine what appeared to be a very close call. Still, there were scrapes and a few open wounds that worry him.]

It is only fair. Unless you do not fear infection. [Hanzo's brows lift as if waiting for a response to that rhetorical question. He doesn't carry disinfectant on his person but he does have something else.]

Take that off. [He tugs at the jacket and takes a rounded container of sake from his obi. It wasn't proper antiseptic, but it would do for now.]

Sure, use the older guy as a shield. [No heat behind it, just a flat reply in turn. He's tired, Hanzo is tired. They could all use a break after that mess. Not right now however, not when there's still a lot to do.

The tug at the jacket has him frowning and the silence for it indicates his glare, but he doesn't shove the other away for it. All the protest is more bark than bite at the moment, because he doesn't want to ruin his night further. Taking any of it out on the others is a temptation, but - he's learned. He's come farther than his impulses.
] I don't, but I'm gonna have to take care of this sooner or later.

Rather it be sooner while we have the breathing room. [Although, he is eyeing Hanzo's method of cleaning the wounds before he moves to shrug off his jacket, black undershirt out of the way of the visible wounds.]

[The oldest shield must be the most effective to survive so long, but he keeps this thought to himself as Reinhardt comes to mind. A literal shield. He's pulled from his thoughts when he observes resistance from 76 initially.]

Sooner is a good choice, my friend. [For a moment he's sure the older man will refuse any offer of help, but when 76 complies he doesn't hesitate in using the makeshift antiseptic to clean the wounds as they're exposed. Anyone else might have given a courtesy warning before beginning, but they don't have time for such pleasantries when it's likely there are others that need to be helped as well.

When he's finished applying the last bandage he rinses his hands again and clears his throat.
] This should be fine until we are back and Dr. Ziegler can see to you. [Hanzo pulls the soldier's shirt back in place and attempts to help him with his jacket but he expects to be met with resistance since the older man was fiercely independent, much like himself.]

[personal profile] 76problems 2016-08-11 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
["Friend". He doesn't let the word faze him, just stares for another moment before letting Hanzo do what he deems best. After all, he knows there are some wounds he can't see, and having an outside source look him over seems preferable than squirming around, trying to see his own wounds. He hisses but he tolerates it, teeth bared behind the mask as he grits them, trying to settle and refrain from resistance.

That's only gonna make this more difficult, after all. He's breathing easier when the other finishes soon enough, giving a nod before waving a hand to the further attempts to help him dress.
]

I've got it. [Is the rough answer he gives before he shoves his jacket back again, ignoring the flash of pain up his side. A glance back to Hanzo and then the beacon behind him before he settles again.] ... Thanks.

Next time, think it might be better to have you scout instead of on the ground. Thoughts?

[The term isn't used lightly. Hanzo doesn't do anything lightly, but the true meaning of friendship is something he's still on the path to understanding, but if a friend was not a man who would dig foreign objects from beneath his skin he'd be damned.

Hanzo tries his best to work through the sounds of 76's suffering and doesn't allow himself to make any sort of comment on it. The deed is done after some time and he allows the older male to handle dressing himself again, brow lifting curiously when he expects the soldier to let out some sign that he's in pain. When it doesn't happen he simply nods his head and steadies himself against the crate near him.
] It was nothing.

Hm. [A thoughtful pause is all he needs to run through the possibility.] I agree. I generally tend to do better on higher ground, better visibility. Scouting ahead would have given a more favorable outcome. [He frowns at the recent memory of their mission and thinks through any other possible correctible mistakes.]

The younger agents. They do not work well under pressure when shouting is involved... In case you had not noticed.

76problems: (» I wanna be listened to.)

[personal profile] 76problems 2016-08-13 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Soldier is quick to settle himself, leaning against the crate beside Hanzo, arms crossed with head turned towards the other, interest still held. He would have gone off, checked on the others but as far as what was radioed in, everyone else was alive, at least. Nothing too dangerous.]

You'll start from the high ground then. We'll see if we can buy you some time to get situated, depending on the next mission. [A grunt in agreement as he thinks, going over possible plans already. The next set of comments though has him furrowing his brows, the edges of them barely visible over his visor.] They could learn to.

[Although this is hardly a protest.] You're telling me to shout less.

[personal profile] yakiniku 2016-08-13 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
[The lack anyone whining on the communications channel was sign enough that they were fine. McCree had said once that no news is good news. This must be one of those situations.

Hanzo manages to follow the old soldier's train of thought as he speaks, visualizing the scenario in his head as he tilts his head to look upward at nothing in particular. Hopefully the next mission goes much better than this one. He doesn't think he has it in him to go through anything like that again. The next time they will be more prepared.
]

I am suggesting you try a different approach. Perhaps it will be more effective. [Hanzo is the last person who should be telling anyone to shout less, but all the difference was in the tone. While 76 came off as nagging, Hanzo tends to come off bossy. Neither was great at teamwork but the two of them were some of the best tacticians on the Overwatch roster. ]

More assertive, less....noisy.

[personal profile] 76problems 2016-08-13 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Noisy". [First of all, how dare you. If looks could kill, maybe they would be digging back into Hanzo's shoulder wound for the idea. There's some offense to it although he knows the answer seems rational. At first, anyway. Shouting is the only way he can compensate for the noises across a battlefield at times but he can see where the other is coming from.

However, it's something else, being told that.
] More assertive. I don't think you're quite hearing me when I shout on the field if you think I need to be more assertive.

What specifically brought this on? [He's gonna love this, he can tell.]

[Perhaps he picked the wrong word to translate to English, but it was close enough. Hanzo observes the response he's given, and 76's body language says more than his mouth ever could. He's reminded of the way older people still feel the need to shout while using mobile phones or video conferencing software, and that is a chuckle he doesn't dare to stifle. Short, and mildly condescending. Classic Hanzo.]

I am simply offering my opinion. There is no need to become defensive. [He's not deliberately trying to tease the old soldier, but there was only so much that could be blamed on translational misunderstandings. The rest of it was just the archer fucking with him a bit.]

[To show this was his own way of jesting, he reaches out his uninjured arm to pat 76's shoulder.] I was reminded when you brought up battle strategy. In all honesty it was not so bad, all things considered. A group of skilled individuals are only as good as their ability to cooperate. With time we all will improve.

I'm not being defensive. [Said the old man, defensively.

The pats makes him glance at the spot, unsure how to receive it for a moment before he straightens up and shakes it off. Even if the age difference wasn't as much as it was between him and one of the youngest in Overwatch, he still felt a little silly taking such reprimand from the other.
] Fine, I'll keep it in mind for the next time.

[Before they discovered a field full of turrets. That seemed to be the smarter choice, the unsaid part that was holding up all of their shame.]

Agreed. I'm gonna go talk with the others about training early in the next few days when we get back. I trust you'll attend? [He wasn't sure how things between the Shimadas were currently, but considering that he and Hanzo seemed to be on some sort of even footing, 76 wanted to believe it was working for the better.]

[While part of it was him having a bit of fun, there was some constructive feedback embedded in it. If there ever came a time when he was made to lead his own team he would probably be just as reluctant to hear any outside opinions so he couldn't really blame 76 for that.

Hanzo's not sure how much they could do to prepare for an area peppered with long range high powered turrets, but if they all trained together it could help with their cohesiveness as a team.
] I will be there. It will be beneficial to all parties. [The Genji issue was still complicated, but at the very least he was willing to try. Which was why he was even working with Overwatch in the first place.]

Thank you. For listening as well as the first aid.

He could still wield his bow again should the situation call for it, but he was positive the fight was over for today. He simply nods at 76's words and steps aside as the other reaches past him.]
