Do be kind to one another; he's a gruff man but he has an honor code just like each and every one of us, and he is kind.
[ Deep, deep down. ]
I know you'll do the right thing, but I can understand how he may invite some teasing. All I ask is an attempt to resist.
[ Lord knows she's given him enough grief in their time together; with the faintest mention of Genji's past, however, she goes back to their previous conversation. Was it about boys? Crushes? No, more like, a cryptic attempt at trying to seek advice and solace from one as worldly and previously skilled in befriending others as Genji. She struggles with communicating with this friend she's grown so apart from, who has irreversibly changed.
Genji is and always will be a dear and trusted companion, after all they'd been through together. ]
I just hope he isn't giving you a difficult time. Are you doing all right?
[ In general; not just tonight, specifically, with a leather-tough old man chasing you up walls. ]
[Mercy gets another picture in response; it's of 76, sprawled back on the roof, looking unusually relaxed. Caption: "A miracle."]
Peace, doctor. I would not truly agitate him. I've seen enough to know he is a good man, despite the rough exterior.
[Frankly, it reminds him of someone... but that feels like chasing ghosts, for how little Genji has to back it up. Regardless, it's why he's attempting to have a zen moment with 76.]
I am well. It's good to be back with Overwatch. I couldn't properly appreciate it back then, but now I can see the kindness and warmth of the people here.
[He'd been too angry, too grieved, too horrified to let Overwatch feel like home, despite the best attempts of those around him to help him adjust. It's nice, to have another chance to repay that kindness, to see that Overwatch's downfall didn't ruin the spirit of why it was established in the first place.]

[ You can bet ur perfect butt she's smiling at that picture!! Dad and Son are getting along just fine; her worries were for naught. ]
I'm glad for that. It's good to have you back at my side and to see you flourishing.
[ The guilt from seeing him struggling had almost been overwhelming before, so to see him accepting what had become of his body at her hands is a deep relief; Overwatch played dirty in recruiting tactics and hadn't left either of them much of a choice. Mercy would have done everything in her power to save him, but there is a point where one is even beyond her skill with the staff. To withhold the resources for higher technology from her usage until he'd agreed to join... that had been filthy. She'd felt filthy. It had clearly not been the life he'd envisioned living from that point on and if Zenyatta hadn't become part of the man's life, where would he be now?
It's a scary thought. But he had found peace. For that she's grateful. ]
ironically the only reason i was doing it is because i was playing overwatch
[It had been a long, rough time with Zenyatta, learning to let go of the pain, learning how to live again. But in the end he'd come out of it for the better. In a way, it was a relief to him to be able to come back to Overwatch; he hadn't always been a kind man in his suffering, had been certain he'd burned bridges behind him when he left after its collapse. He's looking forward to spending the first steps of his second rebirth moving forward with Overwatch once again.]
I am a new man. Although, I suppose, perhaps not *too* new.
[He did admit to being a little troll after all.]
Regardless, it is good to be back with you as well. I look forward to working with you once more. But what of you, doctor? Have you been well?
I mean that is as good a reason as any, and I would love to thread with you elsewhere!
( ooc: If you've posted anywhere recently and would be down to thread again, let me know where! c: Alternatively, I have a list of places I've posted Mercy in her journal! Pesky CAPTCHA... )
[ She remembered his anger. It wasn't something she felt she could soothe, but she would have tried either way, feeling responsible for his pain and his suffering. She may have been the one who saved him, but she was also the one who condemned him to his new form. All she can do moving forward is earn his forgiveness. ]
No, you are still Genji, after all. What was that smooth line I'd overheard... "the heart of a man still beats within me"? I fear the chance you may ever chase my skirts.
[ Just a little bit of a troll? You can practically hear the twinkling in her eyes. ]
The world has been as wearying as ever, but I am doing well. It's good to be among friends once again. Infuriatingly reckless though they may be.
I should only be so lucky to win the heart of a woman like you.
[Flirting is less of a reflex than it used to be before the... accident, but when it's for fun, he's more than up for it. And besides, it's Mercy. The flirt is also a genuine compliment. Any person would be lucky to have her. And as far as Genji is concerned, she has nothing to make up for; he, meanwhile, hadn't spared her back in the old days, lashing out at her more than a few times for putting him in the state he'd found himself, despite his agreement to the operation to save his life. He has much to make up for, when it comes to her.]
You shouldn't speak of a sleeping man so.
[Look, he's not taunting 76 directly, this doesn't count. Of course, he's judging whether 76 is asleep or not by his breathing pattern and the fact that he hasn't moved an inch from the spot he settled himself after climbing the wall to get to Genji. But he's pretty confident in the assumption.]
But I'm glad. We would be lost without you, that is certain.
It wouldn't take nearly so much luck if you're going to be this charming!
[ It's nice to be playful for a change, and to see him still embracing being perfectly human, finding that balance for himself. He's flattering, but she appreciates the words nonetheless. ]
Oh, is he the only one? I'm quite sure there's at least a handful more. Did he really fall asleep up there?
[ She is currently texting one of them, although he is less reckless than, say, Junkrat or Reinhardt. Perhaps even less than herself, willingly following her teammates into the thick of things to keep them alive with nothing more than her faith and trust in her team and a tiny pistol at her side. Can't she just group everyone up behind Reinhardt's shield covered in Zarya's shields all bubbled inside of Winston's sphere and keep them all safe... ]
You're very kind to say so, Genji. I do what I can, little though it may be. I'm proud to offer my support and care for everyone who returned. It's help the world has needed.
[Do you see him smoothly navigating past your insinuations, Angela.]
His mask and visor are on, so I cannot tell by his face, but his breathing is slower and he hasn't moved from the spot he's taken.
[Dad's taking a nap. Climbing walls is Hard Work. Genji takes a glance at 76 just to confirm before he goes back to his conversation with Mercy.]
'Little' is not a descriptor that could ever be applied to your efforts, doctor. [He is Example A of that fact.] But I agree. Despite what happened, I think Overwatch's return could be a good thing.
[He wouldn't be here otherwise. Would have stayed in the company of Master Zenyatta, traveling the world, offering care on a smaller level to those they crossed paths with. He had several reasons for answering Winston's recall, but they would have been moot if he hadn't thought Overwatch worth the effort in the first place.]
They are the most suspect, but everyone can certainly be difficult.
[ You can totally read the fondness in her tone; all her wayward teammates giving her a hard time and early grey hairs... or would, if she ever showed her age. Genji always knew how to read between the lines with her and it makes her laugh. ]
He must trust you to fall asleep while you're still around. It's good to see him fitting in with the group. The disbandment was unfortunate, but I feel also necessary. There was simply too much corruption to sort out, and poor Jack was turned on by the people the second we started to fray. Nothing about the situation was going well by the end.
[ Oops, and this had been such a good conversation up to this point. Sigh. ]
[Ah, they've hit the Shit Got Real part of the evening.]
I don't disagree. But I wish it hadn't become such a tragedy. I wish it hadn't fallen all on him in the end.
[Even in his terrible state, Genji could acknowledge how much Overwatch meant to Commander Morrison. How much he cared, about the people he was in command of and the people they all worked to protect. Thinking of the way he'd been torn down, especially in the days after Overwatch's collapse... It's awful.]
I wish I had had the chance to speak with him more freely, as I do you.
[Morrison had cared about Genji, the angry handful of a new recruit. Of course he hadn't been able to fully appreciate it then, and now, well. Hindsight and all that. LITTLE DOES HE KNOW.]
But that is why it's all the more important to make it work the second time around. His memory deserves that. And the world needs to know that they can do better if they wish to.
I wish for much the same; I still feel like there was more I could have done to shoulder some of the burden. He was a good man with honest ideals and he put his entire life into making the world a better place. I'm sure he would've liked that very much, Genji.
[ It feels queer to speak of someone who is still among the living in the past tense, but she's long-since rationalized speaking of him in this way by acknowledging that a part of him had died those six long years ago. He's still Jack, and always will be, but there was more than an empty casket buried that day. ]
I'm glad to know I'm not alone in feeling that way. If we can all come together from all corners of the Earth, there's no reason others can't. You always know what to say, old friend.
