I don't disagree. But I wish it hadn't become such a tragedy. I wish it hadn't fallen all on him in the end.
[Even in his terrible state, Genji could acknowledge how much Overwatch meant to Commander Morrison. How much he cared, about the people he was in command of and the people they all worked to protect. Thinking of the way he'd been torn down, especially in the days after Overwatch's collapse... It's awful.]
I wish I had had the chance to speak with him more freely, as I do you.
[Morrison had cared about Genji, the angry handful of a new recruit. Of course he hadn't been able to fully appreciate it then, and now, well. Hindsight and all that. LITTLE DOES HE KNOW.]
But that is why it's all the more important to make it work the second time around. His memory deserves that. And the world needs to know that they can do better if they wish to.
I wish for much the same; I still feel like there was more I could have done to shoulder some of the burden. He was a good man with honest ideals and he put his entire life into making the world a better place. I'm sure he would've liked that very much, Genji.
[ It feels queer to speak of someone who is still among the living in the past tense, but she's long-since rationalized speaking of him in this way by acknowledging that a part of him had died those six long years ago. He's still Jack, and always will be, but there was more than an empty casket buried that day. ]
I'm glad to know I'm not alone in feeling that way. If we can all come together from all corners of the Earth, there's no reason others can't. You always know what to say, old friend.
