When is a monster not a monster? (oh, when you love it.)

the monster & the maiden fair meme There's a long precedent in folklore and myth of beautiful young people - both men and women - being kidnapped by monsters: dragons, beasts, goblins, demons, elves, vampires, wolves, or even evil humans. In the end, however, these prisoners are almost always rescued and brought back to civilization to live a normal and happy life. But what if they didn't want to leave their jailor? They've seen behind the surface and have begun to sympathize with this "monster;" no, more than that, they've fallen for them. Will this story have a happy ending? Will the monster believe that anyone could love them? Most importantly, though, can the two of them be left alone without any attempts at a "rescue?" how to play Comment with your character, your preference, and what role they'll play. Feel free to AU characters to your desire role. Reply to others. Thread anything that could remotely fit under the umbrella theme. Was the kidnapping just that, or did both parties know (and care) for each other before, making it a collaborative, mutual effort? Perhaps you'd prefer to play the actual Beauty and The Beast-style getting to know each other or seeing behind the grizzly facade. What about an attempted "rescue?" Or maybe you could thread out a scene where the prisoner runs away from the society they were forced back into and returns to their beloved beast! It's all up to you. You could even do smut if you wanted to, but this isn't a smut meme.

[It's the tail-end of autumn and the first snow has already fallen in chilly Cumberland. The nights are well below freezing and the pale white sun only half-thaws the mud during the day. The ground crackles underfoot, freezing clay and frost-stiffened grass. Inside Allerdale Hall, the freezing and thawing makes the floorboards groan and pop and the wind tears like claws through the hole in the roof. No matter how loudly the pipes rattle and the boiler whistles and the coal burns, the house never becomes warm.

Down in front of the house, Thomas works. He might well be in the warmest spot on the whole property right now, in front of his huge, steaming machine. Valves open and blow piping-hot water vapor into the cold air and the metal blackens with soot spat out by the coal. The coal itself burns in the burner at the top of the machine, and through the small holes in the metal there the fire blinks and flickers like eyes. As its conveyor belt creaks in high-pitched wails and condensation drips and slithers to the muddy, re-heated ground, Thomas thinks it has never looked more like a sweating, braying, tortured monster. Is he torturing this inanimate creation by trying to make it live, to work in spite of a thousand unexpected complications? Or is he just torturing himself: himself, and Lucille, and his new wife, whose money they are taking - bleeding from her to make their ancestral land yield?

It's a question he keeps asking himself, again and again. There's no answer. But perhaps, just at the moment, he can stop trying to answer it: for behind him the great doors of Allerdale Hall open and he knows that one of the women in his life is coming out to talk with him.]

[Ginko Yurishiro was the new transfer student. ...and had all the social graces of a wild animal. Admittedly her almost always serious expression seemed to make her distant and cool. Even if she did have that annoying habit of actually saying the word 'growl' while she talked. Just a weird transfer student. Really nothing too special in this particular school.

...that is until she saw Sena. She really can't help herself. She was pretty (and she smelled good). Maybe she was acting a little weird around her. Following her. Sniffing her. She just smelled good, though.

Really, the next part was to... kidnap her, naturally.

Ginko was going to transfer back soon enough and couldn't just leave her! (Even if they rarely talked.) So, one day after school she began to follow Sena around like usual.]

[Someone had called out his name and not the name he had given himself. The name he had been given upon birth while still human. A name he had thought that he had completely erased when he became a demon all those long years ago. Blood red eyes snapped open, staring into the darkness that were his prison. And then his name got spoken again by the same voice. Edur Weiss. Whoever was calling out to him did it intentionally.

A call like that granted him enough power to pull free of the bonds that kept him locked in the darkness. And such a golden opportunity was one he gladly took. With the boost of power the call gave him, he pulled himself out of the darkness and back into the mortal world. It had been so long since he breathed the air outside of his prison and since he had seen the light.

Red eyes finally landed on the one that had called him. Human of course and someone that looked to be around the same age he had been when he gave in to the darkness and let his heart be corrupted enough to turn into the demon he were today. His lips slowly turned into a smirk. He were finally free again and this human was to thank for it.]
