When is a monster not a monster? (oh, when you love it.)

the monster & the maiden fair meme

There's a long precedent in folklore and myth of beautiful young people - both men and women - being kidnapped by monsters: dragons, beasts, goblins, demons, elves, vampires, wolves, or even evil humans. In the end, however, these prisoners are almost always rescued and brought back to civilization to live a normal and happy life.

But what if they didn't want to leave their jailor?

They've seen behind the surface and have begun to sympathize with this "monster;" no, more than that, they've fallen for them. Will this story have a happy ending? Will the monster believe that anyone could love them? Most importantly, though, can the two of them be left alone without any attempts at a "rescue?"

how to play
  • Comment with your character, your preference, and what role they'll play. Feel free to AU characters to your desire role.
  • Reply to others.
  • Thread anything that could remotely fit under the umbrella theme. Was the kidnapping just that, or did both parties know (and care) for each other before, making it a collaborative, mutual effort? Perhaps you'd prefer to play the actual Beauty and The Beast-style getting to know each other or seeing behind the grizzly facade. What about an attempted "rescue?" Or maybe you could thread out a scene where the prisoner runs away from the society they were forced back into and returns to their beloved beast! It's all up to you. You could even do smut if you wanted to, but this isn't a smut meme.

Hm, it sounds like the whole school system have changed during my time away. University at all was something prestigious back when I got sealed. [Now it sounded like it had become a widespread thing and not something you needed to travel far to attend and have the wealth to pay the school fee.

Used to taking care of oneself was a thing Snow White were familiar with. After all he had taken care of himself for three hundred years. Five to be exact, but the last two had only been about finding ways to keep his sanity.]

I'm sure that no combination you create will be worse then starving.

As long as you can pay the debt off later and make the grade, they don't mind where you're from, usually. That's how it works in Japan.

[Ryou hasn't been looking after himself for that long but he's not trying to compare himself would be that bad]

I'd like to think I'm not that bad! Haha! But chocolate tends to knock the taste out of the tea. Not that I mind. I really like chocolate. [He really likes food anyway. He offers the demon to try them, smiling.]

Japan? So you are saying that if I wish to leave the country, I first need to go to that one harbour and wait for a Dutch ship? [Yeah he had kind of been seal before Japan opened up to the whole world and during a time when boats was one of the most effective ways of travelling around the world.

Snow White took a cookie and looked at it before biting into it. It tasted sweet with just a tiny hint of bitterness in it.]
It is sweet.

[Well he figured that he's going to have to give this demon a run down on human advancements in the last two hundred years. There have been a lot of those.] Oh no... not anymore. These days we have planes for that. They're huge machines that transport people through the air. Usually it takes only a few hours to a day at most, to get to where you want to go.

Yeah, they tend to be that way. A lot of the groceries in the house are sweets. I try eat healthy but the option is there at the store, so I can't help myself.

A day? That is impossible. The speed that would be needed for that. [Nothing had even been near that fast back in his day. If he wished to travel between Germany and Japan then it would have taken him several long weeks. If he decided to use transportation that is.]

I take it that the sugar fad never died down then.

Yeah... It's probably gotten a lot bigger since you've been around. And the speed of a plane would be like... what, ten miles a minute? I don't know what the average speed for a plane is, but it's around that. They are pretty fast.

A lot has developed in the last 200 years. I'll try explain whatever I can for as long as you... um... well are you going to stay? What are you going to do now that you're free?

Ten miles a minute? What kind of steam engines are you using nowadays? [No really what had been going on during the time he had been gone? Humans had never evolved quickly, but just looking around in the apartment and he felt confused by all the weird things that filled the place.]

I don't really know what to do. I hadn't planned that so much time would have passed and if things have changed as much as you claim, the whole world is now a strange place to me.

It's more petrol and burning fossil fuels these days. Steam engines aren't really used anymore. [Hoo boy. Seemed like a lot of things for this guy to take in. Maybe when school starts, Ryou will take him to class or just teach him how to use the internet so he can do some reading up.]

Well... I'm not unfamiliar with housing people here, but if you want to stay, you're more than welcome to. I got you out, so it's my responsibility to help you settle back in this world.
