[ There's something about the last hour before the library closes that Misa loves the most. The lights low in the stacks and those last few students cramming before the the security guards shoo them home. It's the quiet seriousness that she loves. The waiting of it all before the persona of the student is shed and the carefree social creature is released to do as they wish with the night hours spread out before them.

Or it was the perfect place to be as she pushes her cart along the rows of shelves, returning books to their appropriate places before she leaves. The wheels squeaking in the silence giving the perfect way to track exactly where she is in the stacks. The shrill squeak only ceasing when she pauses to return a book to a shelf.

Sometimes she envies the undergrads. The freedom they have to just do without a great deal of planning or finagling of schedules. Grad students like having fun too you know. ]

[Kira, or so he's known to pretty much everyone he spends time with these days, shuffles quietly but awkwardly into the library, his hands in his pockets, his shoulders in a defensive slouch. His face, his posture, the way his eyes dart around in the dim light, all broadcast I don't want to be here loud and clear.

It's half true. Kira's not too thrilled with Lawliet sending him here to pick up the Triangle Building blueprints, but two things temper his irritation. One, Lawliet would have come himself if he could, and the business that had him tied up was actually important. Two, it means Kira gets a chance to talk with Misa Amane by himself. Every time they've spoken so far, Kira has been That Awkward Friend of Lawliet's Who's Always Hanging Around. Look, from the moment he saw her, Kira has had a sense that Misa Amane is something special.

He sees her pushing the cart between the shelves, and instead of what a normal person would do, which would be to wait by the desk until she comes back, Kira once again demonstrates his appalling lack of social grace and follows her. He doesn't mean to sneak up. He just happens to walk quietly, and doesn't say anything until he's about ten feet behind her.]

[well this is a change of pace. he's not alien to working with those outside of his crew, but it's pretty rare...at least this guy has a sense of humor, from what he can tell. he guesses if he had to run a non-bounty job, this isn't so bad.

he still wishes he had his own ship, though. he drums his fingers as his 'partner' - 'Starlord', really? well, at least it's not 'Skywalker', not that he's touching the name with a tractor beam - works to get their ship in to position.]

1; THE PLAN

This is the more boring part for Near, but what has to be done has to be done. Even he needs plans so that the risk of getting caught is just a risk and not a certainty. Certainties are no fun.

He's got ahold of the blueprints already; they're still rolled up on the table until his associates get here. But said associates aren't due to arrive for at least another fifteen minutes, so Near is going over a few preliminary plans in his head first.

Well. Not just in his head. He swoops one robot action figure through the air -- no he's not making an accompanying whooshing noise what are you talking about -- crashing it foot first into another robot that he's positioned on the table. See, so you swing in through the window and knock over the guard . . .

He might be a little too into this to realize how much time is passing and whether any of his associates have come into the room before he's done.


3; THE BEGINNING

Now this is the fun part. Standing on a rooftop in the middle of the night, overlooking the target next door. There's even a dramatic wind blowing. How appropriate is that?

The sensible way to dress for this would be in dark clothing. But instead, Near opts for a pure, pristine white. Yes, he knows it's conspicuous. Yes, he knows it's absurd. But being sensible would be so incredibly boring, make the job way too easy. What's life without a little risk?

His expression is calm, but content. He's got a lid on his outright excitement, but even if there is not exactly a grin on his face, there's the suggestion of one in his eyes.

"Alright, final check. Everything ready?"


4; THE GETAWAY

One small miscalculation and the alarm goes off. Oops. Well, nothing to be done about that now.

Near manages to escape the building with the goods just as the sirens get a little too close. He ducks out of a clear line of vision, but probably not quickly enough to avoid being seen. He did deliberately wear white to look more conspicuous after all, make things a little harder on himself. Does he regret it now that it's happened?

Not a bit. Now the fun is in trying to get away. He's not cornered yet, thank you.

4, gonna break in this journal woooo

Lawliet speaks up just when Near thinks he's gotten away. Just when the sirens have begun to fade, just when Near thinks the place he's chosen to take cover in is secure, just when Near shifts to get on the move again.

"Hmm, not bad. It's a shame about the auxiliary pressure sensors. They were cleverly disguised. Or was it that you knew they were there, but couldn't replicate the exact weight of the diamond?"

He's sitting on top of a low brick wall that he definitely wasn't on a moment ago, in a suit made of tough but flexible, easy-to-move-in material, with an artfully loose tie. His attitude, though, suggests he was on it all the while; he's leaning back easily, a leg dangling carelessly over the near side, propped up on one arm, his palm flat on the brick.
