The princess falls for the prince, her knight and shining armor. The heroes will grow to love one another. Happily ever after. Except, somehow, a chapter from another book got put into your tale. You have the one you know you should be with, or you know where or who they are...yet somehow, somewhere, your heart got stolen by another. A heroic soul loves a bandit. Snow White is charmed by a dwarf instead of good-looking royalty. So maybe you do have a choice. Will you follow your script and be with who the fates intend, or take a chance and go where your own desires lead? — basically, with all the ~destined~ couples and SOULMATES4lyfe memes floating around out there, I wanted to do a #teamfreewill fuck destiny!!1 one. |

| Courtly love or domnei was a medieval European conception of nobly and chivalrously expressing love and admiration. Generally, courtly love was secret and between members of the nobility. It was also generally not practiced between husband and wife. The "courtly love" relationship is modeled on the feudal relationship between a knight and his liege lord. The knight serves his courtly lady (love service) with the same obedience and loyalty which he owes to his liege lord. She is in complete control of the love relationship, while he owes her obedience and submission.The knight's love for the lady inspires him to do great deeds, in order to be worthy of her love or to win her favor. Thus "courtly love" was originally construed as an ennobling force whether or not it was consummated, and even whether or not the lady knew about the knight's love or loved him in return. The "courtly love" relationship typically was not between husband and wife, not because the poets and the audience were inherently immoral, but because it was an idealized sort of relationship that could not exist within the context of "real life" medieval marriages. In the middle ages, marriages amongst the nobility were typically based on practical and dynastic concerns rather than on love. The idea that a marriage could be based on love was a radical notion. But the audience for romance was perfectly aware that these romances were fictions, not models for actual behavior. The adulterous aspect that bothers many 20th-century readers was somewhat beside the point, which was to explore the potential influence of love on human behavior. The behavior of the knight and lady in love was drawn partly from troubadour poetry and partly from a set of literary conventions derived from the Latin poet Ovid, who described the "symptoms" of love as if it were a sickness. The "lovesick" knight became a conventional figure in medieval romance. Typical symptoms: sighing, turning pale, turning red, fever, inability to sleep, eat or drink. Romances often contained long interior monologues in which the lovers describe their feelings. tl;dr characters are in a fantasy/medieval setting and having a courtly romance. | The year is 18...something-something. It's before cars, before airplanes, and before, if we're to believe movies and books, law and order were firmly put in order. The horse reigns supreme, though the train is an up-and-coming marvel, and that's where many people make their money- on both sides of "good" and "bad." Cowboys and bandits run the trails while they guard or steal cattle, and the lawmen can be just as crooked as the big bosses that own everything, from the cows to the mines in the stony hills. This is a hard land, a land for killing and a land for dying on the sandy ground. Everything drips red with blood, with little exception. Of course, there are places to find a little comfort. Such a place is Tumbleweed Tonya's infamous "cat house" brothel, the last stop before the open wilderness of the Broken Bird Trail, one of the most dangerous drives that leads all the way to Old Mexico through deserts and Indian territory. But you don't have to think so much about that at Tonya's. In a little enclave that includes a saloon and a mercantile shop, this little whorehouse is the best west of Texas. There's booze, good food, and, to be expected, good company. Tonya, a hardworn madame from back east who's surprisingly well-read, prides herself in keeping a menagerie fit for every taste, and she means every taste: there are young women, old women, Celestial maidens from the Far East, Indian maids, even men for those who enjoy a bit of masculine company. After all, she's not one to judge. Some even say that some of the workers may not be exactly...human. You've found yourself here. Maybe you're a worker here, trying to earn a few dollars with your body. You could be an honest cowboy, or a bandit hero, or the law itself. Why you're here can be just as varied. This may be your last ride and you're looking to share the last moments with someone. Perhaps you're a regular who just likes a good screw every now an then, an ordinary citizen who just got sucked up in all this, or someone involved in the blossoming crime world who does their business in a good ol' fashioned brothel. Worst of all, though, you could be someone who's in love with one of the workers and is trying to save him/her. That can only end in tragedy. Whatever the case may be, there are plenty of tokens to go around for those who have the money. Let your horse take a break, take a load off your feet, and enjoy some fun for a spell. OOC As someone who likes historical AU, I thought this may be a fun setting to play around with. Feel free to do as you like and do completely historical shenanigans, or play it fast and loose with something as varied as steampunk or sci-fi westerns. Of course, AU isn't completely necessary. For rules, they're just like any other meme: -Comment with your character. -Comment to others. -Get your smut on. Blank comments are fine. However, if you like forms, we have those, too! However, there is one expectation on you: it's time to consummate the marriage. Whether you're in love, in this marriage because it was arranged, or absolutely in hate with your new spouse, you're with them now. Have you two been intimate before this, or is your first time...with them or first time period? Do you know what you want and are you full of lust, or do you have no clue what's going on? Maybe you even have to seduce your partner who wants nothing to do with this!

the mutual captivity dependency (romance) meme
No matter how hard you fought, how subtly or overtly you rebelled, or how many times you tried to escape, you ended up at this point all the same: you're a prisoner. Perhaps you're just a regular, run of the mill captive, perhaps a hostage, a science experience, a weapon to be used, yet, no matter what, you're not free.
But you're also not alone.
There's someone else confined along with you, who you met through your mutual imprisonment. The only thing you two may have in common is that you're both trapped here - and that's enough. The two of you grow close (it seems you're closer to them than you've ever been to anyone, but that could just be the situation); soon, something begins to start between you, tiny and delicate. You can't speak to what that something is, not in a place like this, but you know you want it to last. They are another reason to keep going.
Captivity, of course, has a way of stripping everything from you, including reasons to live. Surely, it is only a matter of time before this small - and still somehow world encompassing - comfort is taken from you...
...no. Not this time. They've taken all you have, right down to your freedom, and it stops now. You won't let the person who's become most precious to you in this hell be stolen away.

HOW TO PLAY
