2. The love interest gets injured, and the tough character treats them and suddenly reveals a tender side.

It's an old trope, admittedly, but an understandable one. You're hurt - physically or emotionally - and perhaps even on the brink of death. And then, out of the blue, someone saves you and brings you back. They heal you, they feed you, cloth you, wash you. In the human mind, the intimacies can bring up warm feelings, even in the hardest of hearts. Will you fight them or let them grow? And what about when it's time to leave? You may not feel like leaving your angel...

HOW TO PLAY
1. Comment with your character and preferences. Mention if you'd prefer to play the healer or the healed - or both, for greatest versatility!
2. Reply to others.

["Hawke" was a lucky name. That's what his father always used to say. Like the bird it was taken from, a Hawke always had the fortune of flying away from danger at the last second.

Garrett always found that his father's definition of "luck" always seemed a little funny when it applied to him. Not funny ha-ha funny, but laughably unfortunate but for a single stroke of luck, or miracle, or whatever it was that kept him alive time after time.

It was a week ago, on a routine errand on the Wounded Coast. Everything was going just swell, until the group was attacked by a group of Tal-Vashoth. One minute Hawke was getting ready to blow one of them to bits, and the next he found a pair of arrows sticking out of his left shoulder and his whole body crippled with pain. Some kind of venom? That was unusually clever of them, came his last coherent thought.

He'd have been in line for more arrows had he not unintentionally taken his father's advice and "flown away," taking a step backwards, sliding off the back of the trail and skidding down about 20 yards. One broken wrist and ankle later, he went mercifully unconscious.

Hawke woke up four days later in Anders' clinic. Apparently the venom acted as a muscle relaxant, which was probably the only reason he didn't break his neck in the fall. So in a way, it was kind of funny ha-ha funny, even if Hawke was the only one who thought so. Poor Anders had had his work cut out for him and likely didn't find it nearly as amusing.

It had been a week now. The venom was out of his system, his right arm and leg were splinted and set, and the arrow wounds were wrapped with bandages around his left shoulder. He could finally sit up, and now it was just a matter of time before he could stand and hold his own weight again.

And he was apparently getting antsy about it.]

I could at least hobble here and there. You shouldn't have to be waiting on me in addition to all this.

There are a lot of shinobi lessons that Gaara missed out on, growing up. Things that didn't involve being a stronger and scarier shinobi just didn't seem all that important when he was ten and angry at everything. At the time, he didn't really care all that much, and no one wanted to take the risk of pushing him on it. Normally, it isn't a big deal these days. He's caught himself up a little, and rarely needs things like first-aid skills anyway. But now, faced with a friend and temporary teammate who needs him to have those less-fatal skills, he finds himself regretting his former aggressive apathy.

"I will do my best," he promises Hinata, kneeling beside her against the cover of a large boulder. They're in the River Country, and the joint Konoha-Suna mission they're running is now officially under attack. One ambush defeated, they know it isn't the end.

She's bloodied and bruised. Of course, he isn't - but he's tired. And he will only get more so as they keep fighting onward.

He makes an effort to open his eyes. That's usually a start, right? But he's not fully sure it works, even if the colors of the wavering blobs in front of his eyes kind of change a bit.

"Don't move." The words are murmured very softly, a light French accent to them. Her charge, after all, is beginning to wake, starting to move. He is showing signs of being aware of his environment, which means it's time to start talking to him. "Nothing is broken, but the wounds are not completely closed yet."

She doesn't know what happened to him. She doesn't care. To most of the world, she is simply a Good Samaritan who took in an injured man and personally stitched his battered body back together.

But she knows who he is. She knows what he is.

And having someone like that owing her his life, being cared for by her... That may come in handy one day. Perhaps someday soon, perhaps years down the line. She doesn't care. She can wait.

"You were very badly wounded, but the injuries have been cleaned and bandaged." She keeps her voice even and warm, a proper bedside manner as she puts on of her hands over his, encouragingly. "My name is Miranda."
