Florence Nightingale Effect Meme

1. Previously aloof tough character gets injured, lets the love interest treat their injuries, and reveals a newfound trust and intimacy. This might or might not involve the tough person making that hissing sound when the love interest touches their injured face, but not quite pulling away...

2. The love interest gets injured, and the tough character treats them and suddenly reveals a tender side.

It's an old trope, admittedly, but an understandable one. You're hurt - physically or emotionally - and perhaps even on the brink of death. And then, out of the blue, someone saves you and brings you back. They heal you, they feed you, cloth you, wash you. In the human mind, the intimacies can bring up warm feelings, even in the hardest of hearts. Will you fight them or let them grow? And what about when it's time to leave? You may not feel like leaving your angel...

HOW TO PLAY
1. Comment with your character and preferences. Mention if you'd prefer to play the healer or the healed - or both, for greatest versatility!
2. Reply to others.

NOT EXACTLY PROMPTS, BUT IDEAS
- The finding and saving
- The hurt/comfort care process, I.E. cleaning wounds, bathing, wrapping bandages, etc.
- Feeding, finding clothes, etc.
- Mother hen behavior ("you're still hurt, don't do that!")
- Comforting from trauma
- Unwilling patient
- Pulling away, trying to be all aloof
- Realization of growing emotions
- Denial
- Attempts to instigate something more
- Jealousy at seeing your savior with someone else
- Confessions
- Mutual attraction
- First (accidental or no) kiss
- Obligatory sex scene option
- Make your own scene

[It had been a nerve-wracking time when Hawke had been brought into his clinic, limp and bleeding and still enough that the mage had felt his heart stop for a moment, a long time fear seeming realised. But the poison-tipped arrows had made it seem so much worse than it was, though Anders had worked frantically all the same to the palpable concern of everyone in the room. He'd been so tired when he'd finally judged Hawke stable enough for him to step back, but he'd shooed the others out of his clinic all the same. They all needed some rest and he promised to send word once their loveable idiot woke properly.

Which turned out to be some time later. Anders had been on edge the whole time, worried that there was more to the poison than they'd all thought, that perhaps even magic wouldn't be enough to save him. He'd kept the clinic limited to emergencies as much as he couldn't worried that he'd turn away and return to find Hawke dead, slipping away while his attention was elsewhere.

The relief when the other man finally opened his eyes had felt almost as good a lyrium after a long battle.

Of course then he'd had to deal with a Hawke who was now conscious and didn't want to just sit around resting, meaning he'd had to keep an eye on the other man for entirely different reasons.]

No, you might do more damage to your injuries and then you'll be here for another week or more, knowing your luck. [Anders set the potion he'd been mixing down and turned to frown at Hawke.] Or worse, you'll take two steps and half the Coterie will turn up trying to kill you. I'm fairly certain you just conjure trouble wherever you go.

[He's more like to annoy Anders to death than anything else, at the moment. His expression even reads trouble, despite how pretty well stuck in place he is, short both limbs on one side and incredibly sore on the other.]

Unlikely. I'm square with the Coterie. [A pause.] At least... last I checked I was.

Sadly, I'm starting to think you're right on the conjuring part, though.

[He leans his head back and stares at the ceiling. Same ceiling he's been looking at for all the time he's been awake.]

It's a good thing I have you around. I can barely heal paper cuts on somebody else, much less my own.

You were always much better at causing them than healing them. [Anders remarks wryly, a flicker of a smile touching his face before he turns away again.]

But you'll need to take some time off from that now. Even with my healing you and even if I do so again, you need time to recover properly, and I'd prefer to keep an eye on you here. At least for a few more days.

[He doesn't want to say it's largely because he was so afraid that Hawke might never wake up, that he might end up losing him, his magic unable to do enough to save him. A few more days just to make entirely certain in his own mind that the danger was well and truly past. Then Hawke could return to his home to most likely do everything but rest up.]

Besides, didn't you want some time off from doing everything for everyone in Kirkwall?

Stick with your strengths, that's what I always say.

[Hopefully Anders can't see the giant eyeroll that Hawke gives, but he does slump back a little, seemingly giving up his attempts to get up.]

Generally, my idea of a holiday is a little more exciting than bedrest.

[Another sigh, and he finally shoots Anders a resigned smile.]

Will you at least promise to keep me occupied?
