and since we've no place to go

❄ it's quiet
and the snow's beautiful tonight
snowfall;
stage i; none, streets are already blanketed in white.
stage ii; very light and intermittent.
stage iii; light - moderate. lasts longer periods.
stage iv; continuous, heavy snowfall.
stage v; the hardest of cores - blizzards, snowstorms, you name it.
scenarios;
① fuck the police, this is the best time for a walk. hope you've got a nice thick coat on.
② stranded in the buttcrack of nowheresville? weren't you watching the time? now you've gone and missed that last bus out of there. or maybe you're lost, somehow. what do?
③ literally chilling, in this weather, is quite easy to do. sitting around relaxing in it is a wee more difficult, but sometimes much more enjoyable, especially if shelter can be found. the snow is beautiful to watch, after all.
④ the weather's not going to stop you. your snow fort's packed full of ammo and ready to go. those aren't snow angels over there; they mark where the poor souls you've downed have fallen. be careful with that snowman's head!!
⑤ you're about fifty miles from civilization but there's a roof over your head, so never mind the chilly draught, right? right. you mightn't be the only one lucky enough to stumble upon this little shelter, though. remember to share the blanket.
⑥ everyone stuck outside should be jelly. you've got a fireplace and hot cocoa and damn if it isn't awesome. a heater's not quite so romantic, but it'd do. there'd better be a backup generator in case the power trips.
⑦ mix and match, or make up your own.

Or the loud sniff, after. Or the complaints, after after. ]
Ugh. How does Mei do it? I'm in MEKA but still freezing.
no subject
So while he’ll weather this without complaint, it seems the same can’t be said for his current partner--not that he blames her, exactly. 76 tilts his head in her direction, the arch of his eyebrow visible right at the top of his visor.]
No central heating in that thing?
[He says it dryly—so dryly, in fact, that it’s difficult to tell whether or not he’s joking. Maybe he’s joking? It’s probably a joke.]
no subject
It was central heating or painting mine pink.
[ It's obvious what she chose. The most obnoxious, glaringly pink robot in the world.
For the record, she's joking too. There was no need for it in the heat of battle, for the adrenaline rush put enough feeling in her body no matter how numb her fingers got in bad weather. On patrol, not so much. Not only that, it was downright boring to check perimeter for the umpteenth time.
Necessary, she knows, but boring.
Hana takes her hands off the controls to blow hot air onto her hands, stalling the mech's movements. ]
Aren't you cold, too? ... Does that jacket have advanced heating tech or something?
no subject
[Okay, that's a joke. Maybe? It's a joke, this time. It has to be.
What's not a joke is the snow, and if he weren't so serious about everything all the time, he might be laughing about how the two of them look out on their patrol. As it stands, however, he's as stoic as ever, even as his boots and the feet of her mech crunch in the snow beneath them. He offers her another quick glance.]
Just a coat. You want it?
[She looks like she could use it more than him.]
no subject
It could have been two obnoxious, pink robots stark against a blanket of white. Crunching through as they make their rounds.
Hers stops at the offer. ]
Are you serious?
no subject
Why wouldn't I be serious?
[He's been through much, much worse, after all.]
no subject
Yeah, you're always serious.
[ Does that mean he would actually paint his robot pink, too? She'll have to ask later.
Which begs the question: Why is he offering his jacket when it's still snowing, still cold? Why is he taking it off already!? ]
Hey. I never said I wanted your smelly jacket.
[ I mean, it probably smells. Plus, that means she has to get out of her meka to put it on. Her fingers clutch the twin controllers a little more tightly. ]
Aren't you old and frail, anyway? You need it more than me.
no subject
He doesn't seem too perturbed by her apparent distaste. 76 will stand here holding it until it becomes clear she's got no interest in it. For now, he can see her shivering.
I pulled it out of storage.
[The regulation winter coat, anyway. His own jacket underneath is the one he's not giving up, and that's the one that probably smells--like more than dust, anyway.]
I ain't that old. Take it.
sorry for being slow aaaa i love dad76 and gremlin weh
Come to think of it, maybe Soldier is that type. His lawn. ]
Really smelly. How long have those things been unused?
[ Why does she have to fight everything? Maybe she wants the jacket underneath instead. ]
I thought the "76" was for how old you are.
[ She's not taking it, moving the mech arm to push the jacket back at him. ]
it's cute and i love it
[He's still painfully dry about everything, and he's still refusing to withdraw the hand that holds out the coat, mech arm be damned. 76 figures he'll give it one more shot, thinly-veiled jabs about his age aside.
He is definitely not that old.]
You're gonna want it sooner or later.

The shuttle should have returned for us by now. Maybe the weather is worse from where it's flying?
no subject
Could be.
[He's still scanning the sky for it, idling touching the comm in his ear with a finger, like that's going to make a message come through. 76 has been through much worse, but he raises a concerned eyebrow in Angela's direction.]
You cold?
[Of course she's cold--but if they're stuck here, he's interested in knowing just how cold, and if there's something he can do to alleviate it.]
no subject
What was your first clue?
no subject
[He knows it's something of a joke, but these days he's pretty deadpan. 76 realizes he's stating the obvious, so he offers a shrug.]
Do you want my jacket?
no subject
[ There doesn't seem to be an easy solution here. Two people, one jacket. One or the other will be freezing. ]
no subject
[He's wearing body armor underneath the jacket, and he's definitely been through worse. It's no skin off his back to offer it to her, really, so before she can give him an actual answer, he unzips it and starts extricating his arms.]
Here.
no subject
[ Because despite his gruff exterior, he's still got that soft spot underneath, and he's not going to let someone else bear the brunt of the cold, is he? She accepts the jacket and slips it on, going to zip it up and smiling at the fact that the sleeves go down to her fingertips. ]
How roomy. My thanks.
[ She nudges back the sleeves enough to pull up the zipper as far as it can go and she soaks in all the residual heat he's left behind inside the jacket. ]
It's lucky I fit inside this. You couldn't offer your jacket to Reinhardt.
no subject
[He rolls back on his heels, as if that's going to keep him warm. The undershirt he wears in combination with all the kevlar is long-sleeved, at least. He'll be fine provided that evac doesn't take literal hours.
It might. He'll cross that bridge when he starts to get cold.]
Let me know if it's not enough.
no subject
[ That's a joke, by the way. Don't take it as a challenge. ]
I'm sure this will be more than enough, thank you.

Things didn't end up being quick when the topic of conversation was vigilantism or global organisations that had blown up.
76 had been a useful resource for her in the past, and she'd thrown intel his way if it looked like it would have merits. After what had happened to Overwatch she'd tried to be extra vigilante with SHIELD, but it didn't seem to be the century for global peacekeeping.
Looking out of the window, despite the heat of the room, made Maria shiver a little. She was used to the cold, and snowy winter, but when it caused an inconvenience she wasn't so fond of it )
I think we'll be stuck here a while. ( At least both of them were always prepared. Being on the move meant needed to keep your own supplies, and she had a couple of protein bars in her bag if things became that desperate ) Unless you've still got an exit handy.
( Not with the way the snow was coming down. It could give them more time to talk about the intel she'd brought, though that was what had made the meet run long already )
no subject
What he doesn't enjoy is being stuck. Any time with other people that he doesn't carefully plan or account for increases the chance of his identity being uncovered, and he makes a point to avoid such situations if at all possible. This storm, however, had come in quickly, without warning, leaving them both stranded.
Can't say I do.
[76 can't call for evac like he used to, and Maria doesn't seem to have much to offer on her end.]
Might have to stick it out. I'll check around for supplies.
no subject
I've got a couple of things. At least this place still has running water.
( Her one bottle wouldn't last forever. Things out on the table Maria moves to one of the other rooms, coming back a few minutes later with a thin blanket )
It isn't much, but no one's been here in a while.
no subject
[76 is busy combing through drawers and cabinets, putting all of his finds on a table in the makeshift kitchen. He’ll sort through it all in a moment, once he’s taken stock of where supplies might be hiding. The place is pretty well combed-over, but there are still a few things—instant coffee packets, emergency flares, some rations. With running water, their real enemy will be the cold. He has no idea if the pipes in this place freeze, or if they can get any kind of heating implement to work.
That one blanket isn’t going to cut it, 76 thinks.]
I’ve been in worse safe houses.
no subject
I'd suggest upgrading but somehow they're the places they don't seem to look.
( Even though run down building is now a cliche. Clearly the bad guys aren't getting any smarter )
Let's see if surviving winter back home ever did anything to help.
( Okay it's not like she spent winter in the arctic but it was pretty cold )
