[ It's the acrid bite of cigarette smoke that prickles J's keen demonic senses, rousing his disgust alongside a burgeoning sense of curiosity. The scent clings to the air like the aftermath of a fire as it wafts across his doorway, and might as well be the blaring of a siren, forewarning of the trouble that awaits if he strikes up a conversation with the figure seen in the dim light of the street lamp they share upon an otherwise empty sidewalk.

A decision is made, sure as the solid click of a deadbolt that officially closes up the funeral home he's been managing. It's a front for seedier business, of course. The owner is a patron of his, presently occupied with using the store as a means to clear away unwanted bodies of recent victims. While he's hardly something so benign as a hired thug or assassin, the demon is still a co-conspirator and readily aids in the city's rising tally of missing people. His part in this little scheme is typically more hands-off, mostly restricted to luring victims his patron chooses with abilities that hold an influence over thoughts and actions. Cremating their remains with a flick of his wrist and a spark of hellfire is only necessary if there's no closed casket that week, where two bodies can be shoved into one grave. Menial work for a creature as powerful as he is, but a demonic contract is bound by unbreakable magic and non-negotiable. He'll get the man's soul and spell his death in the end, so it's not like the demon is opposed to getting his hands dirty.

In the low light and evening hour, J looks far less remarkable than he might under close inspection. The whole point of a human guise is to blend in among the masses, not stand out like a sore thumb. While he has parted ways with the anatomy that's more bestial than human and an extra eye that typically rests center-most in his forehead, J still keeps some familiar traits beyond his face. His hair is one example. Long enough to ghost along his hips, it's neatly tied back in an elastic band for comfort and practicality. And while J's present height is much more subdued than his original stature, it still tips him nicely over six feet. The appearance he strikes is that of an attractive man who has aged gracefully as if he's lived only forty-ish years and not more than seven hundred. As J makes the short trek towards Towa with an amiable aura and the beginnings of a smile, the jingle-jangle of his keys as they're pocketed announces his arrival before he does. ]

Judging from the strong smell of your cigarettes, I can tell you've been here for a while. [ His follow-up question holds more than a few implications, settled neatly under the superficial surface pleasantries. ] Waiting for someone?
