[ Whether he means her entire ship or just her literal clothes, it's a nice enough compliment. ] We're probably closer to privateers than pirates - but the letter of marque comes from an outlaw state. So - basically still pirates. Sometimes we're hauling goods, sometimes we're picking up people. Uh - free ones. Not slaves.

[ The fact that she has to specify turns her stomach, but...well, look where (more importantly, when) they are. ]

We captured a hundred barrels of oak aged rum once. That was a pretty good day.

[Save for an actual contract, everything his crew gets up to is probably a touch closer to privateering too. Kind of light on the savagery to be calling themselves pirates but. To each their own.]

Barrels! Plural! What a take! What sort of vessel was that hauled from! I want to be on the lookout for whoever's moving good like that. My crew really enjoys it when we get a bit of something we can all share around.

There was a cargo ship coming to the city, and the alcohol was the cover story. We weren't there for the rum, but it was a nice prize.
