[It was more of a reflex reaction now, that she would put others first before herself. The Spirit was usually doing something to harm someone, or just being the greedy, vengeful spirit that he was.]

[Ryou was not like that. So, in her own way, to make up for the Spirit's behavior, she was always kind and respectful towards others. Always making sure that everyone else was okay before she made her own move.]

Although, it would amusing to see what I could get them to agree to.

[Well, not Suzaku at least. He's on duty to look after Nunnally, after all. Nunnally is allowed to have small amounts of wine and champagne now, right?]

[As soon as he adjusted his hands, there was a brief moment of silence before the next song began, a song with a tad bit of a faster pace. Her cheeks flushed again. She certainly hoped she wasn't embarrassing him.]

[A small amount, yes. Perhaps. But certainly not enough to make her tipsy or some such. He's still very much the overprotective big brother, just reigned in slightly.]

[It's not often that Lelouch lets himself have fun like this. He hadn't at all since he became Emperor.

[Well, at least Suzaku was there to be able to tell when Nunnally has had enough to drink. He was a good protector, after all.]

[She almost dreaded the thought. Surely Lelouch wouldn't make them do anything... too sinister, right?]

You've... actually thought about things you could make them do? [Bad Lelouch. Bad.]

[Although, her speaking seemed to die down for the moment, just trying to concentrate on keep up with him. She liked the slower pace of the last song because it was easier to concentrate on. Now she was having to think faster and move quicker. It wasn't a good combination.]

[Despite everything that they had done, to each other, to the world, there was no one Lelouch trusted more when it came to Nunnally's safety then Suzaku.]

Of course I did. How else was I supposed to entertain myself while watching them drink themselves into a stupor?

[He noticed the change in Ryou and deliberately slowed down the speed just a little to accommodate her unfamiliarity with the steps.]

[Suzaku was a good protector, as far as she could tell, especially towards Nunnally. He always seemed to be the one by her side whenever Lelouch wasn't able to be there.]

[Well, he could have been dancing or something. Not that she was one to talk, being a wallflower most of the evening, only speaking to people she knew, or those that approached her with a friendly, sober face. She steered clear of the early drinkers, especially the more... forward ones.]

S-so long as you don't... follow through with those ideas...

[Even in her inexperience, she could feel him slowing down. It made her feel embarrassed. Really, really should have learned how to dance before the party. She was dancing with the Emperor, after all. Even drunk, some courtiers could still dance better than her.]

[Suzaku was the perfect Knight. He would protect Nunnally and Lelouch trusted him to push him through if he should ever falter. That was the thing about him and Suzaku, they brought out the best and the worst in each other, but they complimented each other well.]

Of course not. I really don't need another international incident.

[He doesn't mind, he'd rather dance with someone he could have a conversation with then one of those women who would be trying to land the new Emperor of Britannia.]

[She took a brief moment to look over her shoulder again, seeing Suzaku and Nunnally, the two engaged in a light-hearted conversation, judging from their faces. It was sweet, to say the least.]

I-if you're sure.

[And, boy, were those ladies giving her the evil eye, especially seeing how... comfortable the two seemed to be with each other. And the fact that Lelouch had only danced with her and his younger sister that evening. This did not bode well with the white-haired girl, feeling those stares.]

C-can I ask you something?

[Lelouch dipped his head once in response.]

Of course, but I can't guarantee an answer.

An honest answer, at least then? [It's a bit of a personal question, one where she's sort of afraid of the answer.

[Lelouch raised an eyebrow. He knew he was a liar, his life had been built on them, starting with his mother's supposed death up until recently.

He didn't want to make a promise to her that he couldn't keep.]

[She is hesitant, since this was a personal question, and she was probably really shallow for even asking this kind of question. She immediately regrets even asking it once it's out of her mouth.]

[Well. That certainly wasn't the question that he had been expecting. And to be honest, he's not entirely sure of the answer to give her. Or what answer he wants to give her.

He was never one that truly understood girls, for the all the times C.C. liked to tease him about looking good in a dress.

And it hits him. He doesn't want to lie to her. The time for lies was over - there was no more Zero, there was no more rebellion. There was peace and a world that needed rebuilding. She was no longer a tool, a means to an end, neither was anyone else.

He had chosen to live, after all. And now he had to actually start doing that.]

You are a friend, certainly. Far more closer then most.
