the last night.
dusk has fallen, and your nerves are on fire.

you are not looking forward to tomorrow, for whatever reason - perhaps you're in the ending stages of war and the final battle is imminent, perhaps you'll be leaving for an extended period of time, perhaps you're set to go into a risky surgery. whatever's going to happen, it could be the very last night you have, whether it's in this city, in this dimension, in this life. how are you going to spend it? will you say your goodbyes to your loved ones, spend time reminiscing, or just go about your everyday life and try not to think about it?

the choice is yours, but you'd better make it soon. you don't have much time left.

instructions
1. post with your character.
2. tag others.
3. spend your last night wisely.

[So it is. He is good at keeping secrets though, obviously. He has the security codes for the Federation in his head and all kinds of other clearanced stuff. It's not really like he talks about Carol with... anyone actually. There's nothing to say because they're just friends, right? And so what if he's met up with her more than once?

Whatever secret he'd been expecting... that was not it. For a moment, Kirk couldn't figure out if he was feeling disappointed or not. This was fun, wasn't it, and this was a perfect way out. She had work, and he had his ship and they'd just go separate ways.]

Did you ask if they're going to kill you at the end of it? Because it sounds like you should. [Another joke, to stall whatever serious conversation might be coming.]

Can you please stop making jokes, Jim? [Not because she wasn't on the mood or they were having a serious discussion, but because they were unfunny. Carol's known to make a joke or two when a situation turned awkward or serious, either to lighten or diffuse, or to avoid emotions and decisions and talking about them. But at least hers are funny.

She lets out a soft sigh, part annoyed, part sad. Carol wants him to know why she's telling him and for him to know that she likes him and will miss him.]

I'm telling you this as a friend -- [And a lover.] -- because this is our last night together for... God knows how long.
captain_jtkirk: (I want you on the Enterprise)

[personal profile] captain_jtkirk 2013-01-16 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
[He's funny, what are you talking about. But right. Okay. Serious. He can do that.]

Well, thank you for telling me before you disappeared. And I think it'll be good. You're brilliant.
lifegenerating: (WHEREVER)

[personal profile] lifegenerating 2013-01-16 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[At times perhaps, but his jokes right now aren't very funny. She softly smiles at Jim, carefully edging closer to him.]

You probably don't understand what I'm saying half the time. Thank you though. You're brilliant too, in your own charming way. [A short pause]

So... [She dumps the reminder of her water into the sink.] What do you want to do until tomorrow? Our record is six, do you want to try and beat that?

captain_jtkirk: (proud of who I am)

[personal profile] captain_jtkirk 2013-01-17 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
[That's true. Half the time he doesn't really understand what she's saying. He's a genius according to his tests but there are definitely areas where he isn't very good and advanced biology is one of those.]

You know I never turn down an offer like that from a pretty girl. [He smirks a little at her.] It's your last night of freedom, your wish is my command.
lifegenerating: (MELANCHOLIA I)

[personal profile] lifegenerating 2013-01-17 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
[It's okay. If he ever started talking about the ship and tactical maneuvers, he'd lose her. Never did very well in those type of classes, unfortunately. She softly chuckles.] Why do I get the distinct feeling that that isn't the first time you've said to a woman?

[Jim seems like the type of guys women try to spend their last night of freedom before marrying, or joining Starfleet, or moving away. He seems like the type of man who can get over a woman just as easily as he picks them up.]
captain_jtkirk: (happy face. for serious.)

[personal profile] captain_jtkirk 2013-01-17 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Jim just smiles at that, and doesn't really offer any real confirmation or denial. Maybe he is, maybe he's done that, maybe he doesn't like being used.]

Does that really matter?
lifegenerating: (BRANCHES)

[personal profile] lifegenerating 2013-01-17 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[She shrugs and shakes her head in response.] No, not really. I'm merely still trying to get an accurate picture of you as a person.
captain_jtkirk: (that's my name yo)

[personal profile] captain_jtkirk 2013-01-17 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[He lets out something like a scoff and a laugh.]

You're right, I've said it before. I still mean it.
lifegenerating: (A WARMTH)

[personal profile] lifegenerating 2013-01-18 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
[She lets out a soft huff of a chuckle and Carol's close enough to him that she only has to lean forward a little to close the gap between her and his lips. Her hand reaches down to grab his, tugging him forward as she pulls away.] Let's go. Come take this dress off me.
captain_jtkirk: (naked fun times)

[personal profile] captain_jtkirk 2013-01-18 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
[And Kirk proceeds to do just that. Probably should've done it the first place but they really had nothing lacking in the enthusiasm and passion department.

They don't end up breaking the record, and that's mostly because he takes his sweet time the second to last time and they simply run out of time, really. But that's fine, really because he's not really in a record breaking kind of mood. It's more about making some memories to last him a few months until he forgets her.

Like he actually will. Jim is in that strange place between wishing she wasn't leaving and glad that she is because it's less messy that way. That was part of why he was being quiet, as he ran a towel over his wet hair. And he's horrible with saying goodbyes.]
lifegenerating: (A WARMTH)

[personal profile] lifegenerating 2013-01-18 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[Carol doesn't mind not breaking the record. She just wanted to be with him and touch him. That second to last time was great; it was slow and intimate and nice. Just being with him is nice and it makes her more reluctant to leave in the morning.

Her damp blond curls are tied in a ponytail and she has her undergarments and skirt on as Jim dries his hair from their shower together. She's rubbing moisturizer on her face when she notices how quiet he is. Glancing at him from the mirror;]
Something wrong?
captain_jtkirk: (bro walking with spock)

[personal profile] captain_jtkirk 2013-01-19 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Kirk hums softly in response, looking over at her before what she asked really registers. He shakes his head after a moment and throws on one of his easy smiles. It's easy to see through if you know him pretty well.]

What makes you ask?
lifegenerating: (MUST BE FELT)

[personal profile] lifegenerating 2013-01-19 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Her eyes remain on him in study for another second, the white cream of moisturizer still visible on her cheeks, before she returns to massaging it in. That smile isn't fooling anyone.]

You're too quiet. And you look like I just took away your favourite toy. [Well, she's not, but Starfleet and circumstances are. Carol looks down to wash her hands.]
captain_jtkirk: (orders orders orders)

[personal profile] captain_jtkirk 2013-01-20 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
[.... well, in a weird way you could call her his favorite toy. But that's kind of insulting to her to call her his toy.]

It sucks that you're so brilliant, that's all.
lifegenerating: (MUST BE FELT)

[personal profile] lifegenerating 2013-01-20 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Aw, Jim. She wouldn't call him her toy, but definitely he's her favourite friend. Carol reaches for her compact, opening to gather some light pink dust on her brush. But she doesn't begin to put her make-up on yet.]

I'm thinking the same thing about you.
captain_jtkirk: (here's the thing...)

[personal profile] captain_jtkirk 2013-01-20 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
[Bones is kind of his favorite friend, purely because they've survived the test of vomit on shoes and years later, haven't gotten sick of each other yet. But she's high on his list.]

I had my job first.
lifegenerating: (WHEREVER)

[personal profile] lifegenerating 2013-01-20 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Regardless, it doesn't matter. [She gestures between them then begins putting her make-up on.] This isn't anything beyond some fun.

[Jim's kind of made it clear that he wanted nothing but that, and she's alright with that. Sometimes one has to grab happiness from what they got, and being with Jim and having him touch her was good for her. The reality of long-time separation is breaking that, and Carol's just trying to reestablish the boundaries that Jim himself set. She likes him a lot, but this is what it is.]
captain_jtkirk: (this is my pet Russian)

[personal profile] captain_jtkirk 2013-01-21 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
[That's right. That's all it was. Just fun. Fun they won't be having for years or ever again but that's just how life is.]

I know. [He rubs his hair one last time and tosses the towel off to the side. It's a hotel, someone else will clean it up and get paid to do it.]

You have time for breakfast?"
lifegenerating: (IN PLAGUE-TIME)

[personal profile] lifegenerating 2013-01-21 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[And it was the best. Life has a funny way of snatching away and never giving back the things we most want.

His invitation surprises her, and she looks at him like he just grew a second head. It's odd that he's prolonging the inevitable because she's heard stories about him and she's made her little observations about him too. Jim Kirk doesn't seem like the type of guy to take a woman out to breakfast after a night of sex. He doesn't even seem like the type of guy to say goodbye afterwards.

In any case, Carol smiles at him, warmly. She's covered the bags underneath her eyes with eye-shadow, and she was putting on her lip-stick when he asked. She just needs to put her shirt and boots on and she's ready.]

For you Jim, I have all the time in the world. [Actually, she has an hour and a half for him, but she's going to make them count.]
captain_jtkirk: (boobs? where?)

[personal profile] captain_jtkirk 2013-01-21 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Can't believe everything you hear about him. Regardless of sex being involved, he'll take a friend out for breakfast before a big promotion.

Kirk smiles at her, and moves to get his shirt and his pants from the other room.]

There's a place around here that I've always been told to try but never had the chance.
lifegenerating: (STINKING DUNGHILL)

[personal profile] lifegenerating 2013-01-21 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[A big promotion? Carol's not sure what she's even going to do, much less receive a promotion. For all she knows, she could be part of a crazy test to remove insubordination from officers.

Carol's not thinking that though. She's too concerned with quickly putting her shirt and boots on, and going to breakfast.]

Oh, what kind of food do they serve there? [She leans against the door frame, adjusting her shirt and the collar.]
captain_jtkirk: (gold is my color)

[personal profile] captain_jtkirk 2013-01-22 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
[It can't be that. They haven't tried to kidnap Kirk for it.]

The Andorian equivalent of an English breakfast. It intrigues me.
lifegenerating: (MELANCHOLIA I)

[personal profile] lifegenerating 2013-01-22 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Or maybe it's for a "Women of the Starfleet" calender shoot. Her brows raise in interest and lips pursed together in a smile.]

Oh, that sounds amazing. There was an Andorian engineer on the Eagle and he always said that Andorian food is a thousand times better than the food on the ship.
captain_jtkirk: (captaining. leave me be.)

[personal profile] captain_jtkirk 2013-01-22 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Don't joke about that calender. He actually wants it.]

Lots of food is better than ship food. That's hardly fair.
