[Ben picked up his glass and took a sip, smiling. This was... It was everything he had been missing and hoping for.
He was so content to be here. It felt right. So so right.]

[Cassian's words trailed off as he laughed softly, ducking his head as once more, he tried to pull himself together. He probably looked like an idiot already, but Ben was still smiling at him like that and maybe - maybe Cassian didn't have to worry about making a perfect first impression.
Maybe he and Ben were already past that point.]
Let me go talk to my mother and we can go, yeah?
no subject
[Ben finished his drink and then gathered his things. He put them into the bag and slung it over his shoulder.
He rose and gave Cassian a smile before he went to wait outside.
His heart was pounding so quickly. His soulmate. And it was someone he knew he could love.]

He didn't give her very many details, only because he didn't yet have much to tell. But as he hugged her, Cassian promised that he would tell her more when there was more to tell. She pointed out that he was smiling so widely that his dimple was showing, and Cassian grumbled good-naturedly as he made his way through the restaurant and outside.
To Ben.]
no subject
He opened his eyes when he more felt Cassian approach. Ben gave him another smile and then pushed away from the wall.]
Shall we? [He offered his hand to Cassian, flushing softly.]
no subject
Cassian didn't even think twice as Ben reached out to him, and he reached out to meet him halfway, their fingers tangling together as though they'd held hands a thousand times before.
He smiled right back at Ben, nodding slowly.]
Yeah. Let's go.
no subject
He led Cassian to his hotel and in. Over to the elevator and up to the floor his room was on.
It was quick work to unlock the door and let the other man in before coming in after him. He shut and locked the door before leaning against it.
His heart was beating so hard in his chest. Was this how it always was?]

There was a lot to talk about, after all, so much to learn about each other, and he wanted to be comfortable and have a private place in which to do so.
The walk was comfortable, and even when entering the hotel, Cassian kept his hand firmly linked with Ben's, only letting go once they reached his room and he was allowed inside. He took a few steps in and looked around, his attention slowly focusing back on Ben.
He was lucky, he thought. His mother had told the story of her first meeting with his father many times, how they had initially disliked each other, how long it had taken to warm up.
He didn't feel that with Ben. He felt ... hopeful.]
Well ... here we are.
no subject
[He put his bag down and crossed over to where Cassian stood.
Ben reached out and cupped his face in both hands before leaning in and kissing him. He was moving on instinct and it just felt like the right thing to do.
Like everything was bubbling up and threatening to come spilling out. But it didn't scare him. It excited him. Made him hopeful for their future.]
no subject
He might have made a soft noise of surprise, but Cassian didn't try to pull away or ask Ben just what he thought he was doing. No, he returned the kiss eagerly, blindly curling an arm around the taller man's middle, wanting to keep him as close as possible for as long as he could.
It didn't feel like they were rushing into anything. Quite the opposite, as a matter of fact. Cassian had wanted the share a kiss just as much as Ben seemingly did. And damn, he was gonna enjoy it.
He could hardly know what the future was going to hold for them. But right now, in the moment, this felt right.]
no subject
It all felt right.
He pulled back slightly and smiled at Cassian. He was finding that he never wanted to be parted from this man.]
I want to stay with you. I don't want to go back to Maine.
no subject
For a moment, he thought he'd misunderstood Ben's words. His brow furrowed together as he came to the realization that he hadn't. That Ben was offering … ]
Ben, I … I couldn't ask you to do that. What about your family? Your friends? Your job? You … you have a life …
no subject
I don't have a life Cassian. I don't have family, I hardly have friends. I work in a hardware store.
[He shook his head and hide his face against the man's shoulder. It did hurt. Admitting that he was just going through the motions of life. That he didn't have anything to really life for.]
no subject
And while he still doubted himself and his capability to be something good for Ben, Cassian knew that he couldn't just sit back and do nothing.]
You've got me.
[He returned the gentle kiss, welcomed Ben closer still, allowing him to hide his face in the space between neck and shoulder, hoping that he was somehow sharing even just a little bit of reassurance.]
Alright. You … you can stay. I just don't want you to burn any of your bridges if it turns out that I'm not what you want.
no subject
[Ben pulled away and smiled softly at Cassian. He leaned in and kissed him gently. He was finding that it was so easy to be soft and gentle with Cassian.
That he just wanted to curl up with the man and start their life.
And it didn't scare him.]
no subject
He needed to trust his instincts and let go of his fear. He needed to trust the bond he already felt with the man who was already clearly trusting him with his heart.
He wanted nothing more than to be something so good for Ben, his soulmate.]
We've got some plans to make, then. But - those can wait for a bit, don't you think?
no subject
Unknown to many, Ben was a shy man. He put on the airs of someone who was confident, who didn't have a care in the world.
But he did care. He was so self conscious...
But he knew deep down, with Cassian it was going to be okay. He knew the man would always be there for him.]
no subject
Nobody had ever made him feel quite so … accepted. Wanted. Even … desired.
His heart ached to even consider not being able to show Ben that he felt exactly the same, that for once, he was trusting his heart rather than his head and hoping that it didn't lead him into heartbreak.]
Let's sit and be comfortable. Talk a little. Sound good?
no subject
[He went to sit on the small couch in the room. Ben let out a breath.
He ran a hand through his hair and then looked up at Cassian. Ben reached out to him, offering his hand.]
no subject
He wanted to think of this in terms of a first date, not some nerve-wracking job interview. Comfortable questions. Getting to know each other with every answer. The first step toward what he wanted to hope was the rest of their lives.]
So. What do you want to know?
no subject
What did you want to be when you grew up?
[It was a silly question. But he wanted to know everything about Cassian. Big to small.]
no subject
And Cassian didn't mind silly questions. They broke the ice well enough without having to delve into anything too serious too quickly. He hummed softly and squeezed Ben's fingers as he thought.]
James Bond. In space. With less love interests and more cool gadgets. Maybe a robot sidekick.
What about you?
no subject
[Ben squeezed his hand before smiling at him. He brought Cassian's hand up and kissed the back of it, just letting his lips linger for a moment.
He pulled back and smiled again.]
Right now though... When I grow up I think I want to be happy.
no subject
His gaze was soft and fond as Ben lifted their clasped hands and pressed a kiss to the back of Cassian's. He couldn't change the past, but he could work to make the present and future more worthwhile.]
We can work on that.
no subject
[It was easy to share this with Cassian. He didn't feel like the man was judging him at all. That he wanted the same things. For both of them to be content in life.
He leaned in to kiss the other man. It all felt right, like this is what was meant to be.
Just because they were soulmates didn't mean they would like one another. It was more common now. People bucking the expectation they would stay with their soulmate no matter what.
Part of Ben always wondered if that was what happened with his birth parents.]
