but well, he is — divination comes naturally to him. it always has. unwanted prophecies, intrusive dreams, the near constant low hum of anxiety. he writes all of it off, but the second he’s in this classroom again, there’s this keen and awful reminder that every bit of it is real.

he likes the professor, at the very least. can tolerate her far better than the rest; being a muggleborn and gryffindor’s seeker was asking for a target on your back. being at the top of gryffindor’s class? an extra dosage of pressure. but she doesn’t think any less of him for the evenings where he’s stuck enchanting brooms in detention, or for his spontaneous trips to the infirmary, or for the christmases where he’s left sulking about because he’s got nowhere else to go.

today, he waits until everyone has shuffled out of the classroom. squall’s seated there, silently, before gathering his belongings and rising to his feet. slowly, he approaches her desk while clutching his books. ]

Marcus scrubs a hand down his face as he gets off the Hogwarts express he didn't get much sleep the night before he sat up with him mom, like he always did the night before term started, since she couldn't take him to the train anymore, and well his dad had had one of his moments when Marcus tried to go and get some actual sleep. He winces as the hand trails over his black eye. He shakes his head, happy to be away from home even if it causes a pang of guilt about leaving his mom there in that house.

He takes a breath and heads for the carriages, he's going to have to go to Pomfrey, who he knew had her suspicions but she never asked too many questions if he came in at the start of the term. Even said if he came in again at the start of the year without his teeth sorted she would just do it. Which was good because his mouth was actually really starting to fucking hurt. Maybe that's why people thought he was always pissed off, not that he didn't have some anger issues, it was just, smiling was a no for him.

His mood does lift when Adrian, Basil, Oliver, and a few other players from the house teams pile into a carriage with him, there is a lot of good-natured ribbing about the upcoming seasons, and everyone has been around him a long enough time not to say a goddamn thing about his eye.

Madam Pomfrey is quick about his eye, and tuts about the teeth, he's able to carefully talk her out of owling his father or mother, he didn't one trouble for his mother, or trouble from his father right now. He had two years of quidditch left to prove he was good enough to go pro.

She sighed, and as an adult, he would realize she probably very well knew what was going on, just not the full extent of it, Marcus didn't even know that. "Head to the feast, we'll start in on your teeth tomorrow, should have been done years ago though, so it won't be pleasant."

Marcus pulls on his Slytherin robe and starts to head down the stairs to the feast, hungry and tired.

( option one: seventh year slytherin, half-blood. obnoxiously good at everything. a chaser on the quidditch team, of which he is most likely captain. very quiet, prefers to keep to himself.

option two: either an auror or a professor teaching defense against the dark arts or transfiguration. he's very no nonsense, but he'll set time aside to coach and assist any of his students that are sincere and making an effort. possibly helps out with flying lessons from time to time. )

( Cloud isn't really looking forward to the game.

It's always something when it's Slytherin and Gryffindor because the school can never let go of that senseless rivalry, but it's something Cloud's always chalked up to ideals clashing. Not that he should care; he's a Hufflepuff. But the other students can never seem to calm down a week before or a week after the game, and it honestly has nothing to do with anything except the people on the teams. The captains. Rumor has it Angeal is grooming Zack to take over when he graduates, and Sephiroth... well, there's always a lot of talk about him. Even his fan club – comprised of every house in the school – keeps scrolls of info on him, and really, Cloud could care less about that too. He could care less about everything, ducking out of his last class early to race to the pitch for some last minute practice of his own before they blocked off the field for the big game.

Surprisingly, it's empty. Or mostly. There's a lone figure standing just beneath the nearest goals, strands of his overly long hair flying away in the wind. Despite the approaching storm just on the horizon, something about him seems to glimmer, and Cloud slows his steps, fingers tightening around the handle of his broom. He'd met Sephiorth several years ago—a meager third year to his fifth. Something had sparked between them that day, a weird sense of destiny that Cloud didn't like to think about, and now, rounding out his own fifth year, it hadn't really gone away. Most of the time, he tried to avoid him if he could, but since Zack was one of his best friends and hung in Sephiroth's very small circle of friends, it was nearly impossible to ignore him all the time. Case in point: now. It made him uncomfortable to continue walking along that path towards him, conscious of where his wand is tucked away beneath his robes, and when he blinks, he's staring up at him with an odd kind of desperation he'd thought he'd swallowed a year ago.

Why couldn't anyone else have been out there with them? Why is he just standing there staring like a dazed first year?

( It just pops out of his mouth without hesitation, a stupid question that's followed by the immediate presence of a sharp blush burning his ears. He hopes Sephiroth misinterprets it as the slightest bit of exertion or maybe a fluctuation in temperature instead, casting a look down the length of the field and already itching to climb the broomstick in his hand and get away from all this. But his stubbornness glues his feet to the ground, and if anything, he'll just wish him good luck on the upcoming game and make a run for it before something else happens. )

As an Adult: Now Transfiguration Professor at Hogwarts after a colorful career as a Curse-Breaker, working mainly on medieval crypts said to have been previously the homes of wizards working on dark magics. Surprisingly cheerful regardless. ]
