[ Q does do what he does best and it elicits the subtle quirk of her brows that signals his wry humour has landed precisely where it was meant to. And while she's rarely one for effusive exchanges, they've certainly flitted in and out of each others' orbits long enough to read between the lines — when Peggy is amused, it's clear in little tells just like that. Traveler's insurance, her huff of breath all but says, imagine.

His offer, however, to discuss the equipment does succeed in surprising her. Not unpleasantly so, even though she does feel rather bone-tired. But what would she be returning home to? Not back to Washington, not for a few days yet. Just a lovely but decidedly empty hotel suite with an impressive entertainment system she finds rather loathsome. (Modern life is convenient in many ways, but some of it isn't to her taste.) Back in her day, the aftermath of a mission was unwinding with the boys in the bullpen and a stiff drink.

This isn't that, but it's close enough that she warms to the suggestion quickly. ]

On the contrary, I was delighted with it. That wristwatch, especially, was a marvel — the first one I had in the field simply cracked safes. [ A beat. Then, blithely, ] Quite an impressive avalanche from such a little explosive.

[ Peggy taps her fingers once, twice, on the table before adding: ]

I don't mind discussing the rest. Although if you've got any whiskey hidden in that work bench of yours, I wouldn't say no to a nightcap.

[ Muted responses are to be expected; Q knows what country he's in and what field he's chosen to make his living from. But there's just enough history of little moments similar to this one that he can read between the lines; message received, let's move on now.

Now it's Q's turn to look surprised, and he's a bit less graceful at hiding it. There's plenty of reasons he doesn't do fieldwork himself, and weighing less than Agent Carter likely does is only one of them. His poker face is fantastic - in very specific scenarios, and this is not one of them.
] I actually don't, if you can believe it. But one of the techs has a fondness for Speyburn. I'm sure she'll forgive us for borrowing some.

[ He pushes away from his desk to stand, smoothing down his jacket as he goes (not that it's tailored well enough for any level of fussing to really salvage the way it hangs on him). ] Not that sitting and discussing this sort of thing in a break room is particularly scenic. [ Maybe everyone's had enough of exciting scenery for the evening, anyway. ]
