Everyone has something they wish for. If we didn't have desires, we wouldn't have hearts. Sometimes we want mundane things: a turkey sandwich sounds pretty good right about now. And sometimes we want impossible things: if only I could make her love me.

Just for today, your heart's desires are granted. Maybe it has something to do with that monkey paw you found at a flea market. Perhaps you've gone on an expedition and returned with some rusty old lamp. It could be a wish on a shooting star, an extinguished birthday candle, or even the work of a good old-fashioned Faery Godparent. Whatever's caused this sudden change in your luck, one thread holds true. It turned out wrong.

Now, your crush loves you so much she's stalking you. You can turn objects into gold with a touch, but all the food turns inedible on your tongue. Everyone's left you alone to read, but you've just broken your glasses. The sandwich is a little dry.

You were putting too much stress on that paradox. I warned you not to push it too far. [He sighs and just...flops back down onto the sand.]

All my calculations dictated that it ought to have been perfectly fine!

[He kicks sand at the Master, annoyed.] You're welcome.

The void outside of time and space, I would imagine. [He runs a hand through his hair.]

Oh, lovely. I take it that getting back won't be easy.

Impossible. [He sighs]

If we had a TARDIS, we might stand a chance. But good luck building yourself a TARDIS out of sand.

There has to be more than a beach in this place. I'm sure that your TARDIS is somewhere.

Alright then, Master. [He reluctantly pushes himself to his feet, swaying slightly at the sudden onset of dizziness.] Let's...ah...explore.

Think of it as another one of your pointless adventures. [He gets up as well, unamused at his suit having gotten ruined by the saltwater.]

My adventures are hardly pointless. [That earns a bit of a scowl.]

Whatever. [He brushes the sand off of him as best he can.]

[He just ignores his own soggy and sandy state, starting to walk away from the seemingly endless ocean.]

[He follows along, silently for now, still trying to go over in his head what went wrong.]

[He glances back at the Master, slowing a bit so they can walk side by side.] Why do you even want to rule the universe, anyway?

I like the feel of control. I like to rule. I like to own. And the universe by all rights should be ours, anyway, now that the Time Lords are all gone.

[Of course, there's a lot more to it, but he's not incredibly talkative at the moment.]

You do realize that the Time Lords weren't really ruling the universe even at the peak of their power? They only observed.

Not like that did them much good.

They as good as owned the universe, and that's not even getting into the issues with bloody Rassilon.

Maybe, but we've never been like the rest of them. [His voice is a bit quieter now.] We've never wanted to be like the rest of them. It's always been the Time Lords and...us. Separate.

I didn't want to be them. I wanted to be me. The Master. Master of all.
