Halloween Party
Bring Your Own Spoop
Nothing says Halloween like making yourself sick to your stomach - but whether that's with cold creeping dread, the reek of blood and guts, or just too many mini Snickers bars depends on the individual.
For that reason, we invite you to pick your own poison:
1. Post a top-level comment with your character and a seasonal prompt to suit them. This can be a quote, a word, an image (please link all NSFW or likely triggers), a scenario, a song, or anything else you can think of - as long as it's Halloweeny!
2. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR TOP LEVEL BLANK. You have been warned.
3. Be
3.
And while I try to find my witness you might even have fun. I’ve been told that a ‘Spooky Buffet’ is being provided.
[Watts was more than a little excited about this investigation, it was undercover at a Halloween party. Halloween parties either meant good food or copious amounts of sweets. Plus it was a fun excuse to dress up, and he’d had some help to work out a decent ‘disguise’ in the spirit of the event.
Given that his backup had an emergency and needed to cancel, he didn’t see why the second invite should go to waste. It wasn’t dangerous, and there would be other people in-the-know there as it was.
Sure, the constable and his wife who had secured their invitations weren’t the most reliable sorts of people, but it still counted for something.
So he’s spent a few minutes texting in an attempt to tempt her to join in on the event.]

That doesn't change the fact that I have nothing to wear- I haven't worn a Halloween costume since I was eight.
[ It's a lame excuse, but it isn't incorrect either. Though that doesn't mean she's not willing to improvise; she does enjoy Halloween a lot, and it'd be fun to actually have something to do to celebrate it. Not that her usual 'takeout and horror movies until the wee hours' tradition wasn't enjoyable, but changing things up a little couldn't hurt. ]
What're you going as, dare I ask?

[Usually he was working on the holiday, since it tended to be a crazy night. Halloween tended to be an all hands on deck sort of situation.
Sure, he was still technically working this time; but it was far different from helping out officers with all the out of hand mischief and drunk people in costumes. The most Halloween-like activity he had time for was usually falling asleep on his sofa after hours with what ever classic horror movie marathon was on television.]
Well I was going to go as Sherlock Holmes, but I was informed by a colleague that it would be rather ‘on the nose’ for the occasion. So in the spirit of doing something different for the holiday, I will be donning the guise of the gentleman thief, Arsène Lupin.
[Of course Llewellyn would choose to dress up as a figure from a work of fiction, over something generic if given the choice. It was even less surprising that his decision was still something that fit a certain aesthetic given how tidy he liked to keep his appearance.]

[ With a sigh, and a smile - despite herself - she finally gave an answer; ]
Okay, alright. I'll go.
What time should I meet you there?

[It gave them a little more time to prepare, and as much as he liked the idea of being punctual it would probably be better to show up after the party had gotten underway. A moment or two later, almost as an after thought, he sends a second message.]
Oh, and thank you, Esther. I will let you know if anything changes.
[Sure enough, Watts could be found outside one of the larger (more like fancier) homes in the city shortly before the time they had agreed to meet. He was frowning slightly at the rather loud sounds emitting from the house. He tended to favour quieter locales for places to spend an evening, but then again he wasn’t here for the party alone. If all went according to plan, this would be an easy enough job, and they could enjoy some of the food on the side. If anything, having a friend around would be a nice distraction from the party itself.
Llewellyn was actually dressed up quite a bit, not one to do anything half-way, his costume very much looking as though it had been pulled straight from an Edwardian Era novel. He looked quite at home in a full suit with a proper tailcoat, top hat and cane included. It certainly helped to have a coworker who also dabbled in traditional theatre work as a hobby that was happy to help out with a last minute case.
After a few minutes of texting back and forth with the other constable already at the party, he took a little look around the grounds outside to see if Esther had arrived yet.]

[ Now came the task of finding something to wear; an issue easily solved by a text sent ahead to her friend in the style & prosthetics department.
Two car journeys, a little friendly torment - ('You're going to a party? Of your own free will?? Miracles do happen.') - a quick fitting, and a trip to the closest 24/7 store later, and she was pretty much set to go.
Dousing herself in about a gallon and a half of fake blood and drying herself off with a hairdryer whilst wearing a pink party gown was a new experience, that she had to admit. But it was fun. She looked great (or at least she thought so, and it was a rare enough thought indeed), and so by the time she was in her car, loosely wearing an old coat to cover up the fact she looked like she'd taken a ride in the 'Shining' elevator on prom night, Esther was actually...looking forward to this.
It was around ten fifteen when she finally made her way up towards the house, feelings of self-consciousness slowly dissipating with every other person in far more outlandish costumes she saw also heading towards the party.
Llewelyn was easy to find, if only because she'd googled his costume's inspiration on her way here. When she got close enough, she called out to him. ]
Looking very dapper, detective. You'd almost pass for a gentleman.

Well now, don’t you look like a prom-night gone horribly wrong! I trust that you didn’t have to murder anyone to pull off that look?
[The question was stated jokingly of course as he walked over to meet up with her midway.]
Almost a gentleman? I seem to have failed to pull off my disguise then, I was definitely going to more than almost. Maurice Leblanc will be offended from his grave, now.
[Llewellyn’s response was light, tone carrying amusement as he gestured lightly with the cane vaguely in the direction of the party. Leading on towards the house he managed to rein in some of the silly mood to be serious for a moment,]
I’ve been informed by my inside contacts that the event has fully taken off, so it should be easy enough to blend in with the other guests while I have a look around. Its being contained on the first and second floor, so it might take me a while to find who I’m looking for...
I guess the theme is ‘haunted house’, I’m not entirely sure if that means there is something set up or if it’s just the decor. They didn’t really... specify what they meant by that.
That said! Hopefully you’ll have some fun in the interim!
no subject
I'm kidding, don't worry. You look great. [ When he started towards the house, she followed, fighting the urge to rub her bare arms to keep herself warm. This was the blood-soaked bed she made and now she was going to lie in it, dammit. ]
I'm thinking it's probably just the decor; although if it were actually haunted, I think the whole 'having fun' bit would come much easier.
[ It'd been a long time since she'd seen this many people dressed up in costumes, and the closer they got to the house, the more ridiculous and delightful it all looked. She was even excited for candy; again. Not something that really occurred outside of her hanging out with Watts. ]

Laughing a little at the comment, Llewellyn couldn’t help but raise a brow and respond with a dramatic tone,]
Oh you would be surprised, I’ve been told a lot of the older homes around here have their stories.
[Shrugging a little, and offering a little wave to a couple standing near the windows dressed in an obvious couples costume (he wasn’t... entirely sure what. The Higgins-Newsomes were puzzles that no one could really figure out even on a good day) before they moved further in.]
At least that’s what one of the officers at the station keeps saying, I’ve yet to see any reliably documented evidence to suggest that’s true.
[Further in the refreshments table could be seen along the far end wall, and it was certainly everything that it had been promised to be. A mix of baked treats, candy apples, and the really good traditional Halloween candy all spread out for guests to pick through as they grew hungry. Chances were, if they got separated, one of them would easily be found there at some point.]
