[ Not really. I just saw Maeron and my Maitimo woke up, hissing like a cat. So obviously I need to cause trouble for him.]

[Well, I always 100% support giving Mairon trouble! He does deserve it, after all. We could do something more canon based, maybe end-times or something else with a post-apocalyptic feel (since there's no shortage of that), but I would also be fine with an AU or a scenario more inspired by the prompts. I'm flexible!]

[Something during/leading up to Dagor Dagorath is a great idea! XD]

[Ah, Dagor Dagorath, bringing so many old friends together again! Do you have any thoughts about them meeting up beforehand? Let me know if you'd like to start! I could also think up something when I get home from work later.]

[Sauron gets back well before Morgoth and Maedhros has the fun of being the one to discover it? Probably while investigating some kind of apocalyptic weirdness?]

[[ooc: All right, I came up with something that I hope you can work with. I tried to keep it open, and I'm happy to change anything needed. Also, if you'd prefer that I switch to prose, I can do that, too.]]

[How wonderful it was to return. He is the herald. Yes, he sees himself that way. He has been awakened in advance of the long-awaited return. He is the first sign of what is to come. He can sense it. It is fitting that he should be the first, since he was also the last—faithful to Melkor until the end. Now, there is a new beginning, and there will be a different ending. Sauron still believes in the possibility of victory. It is not the only thing that drives him, but it is one thing. Another is the thought that when Morgoth arrives, he will want to have a place ready for him, to welcome him.

That is why Sauron has begun to reshape this land. A darkness has already fallen upon it, thanks to his influence. Strange creatures live here which did not, before, and there is a heaviness in the air. Many of the native animals have fled. It's all very promising. His power has returned to him, along with his consciousness. He once more has the ability to take a form of his choosing. Every day his power is growing—in response to the approach of Morgoth's return, which he hopes will be soon.

As pleased as he is by his new power and purpose, he is aware that he must be cautious. It is not as if his old enemies have disappeared with time. His warping of the world might well draw their attention, but it is not as if he can abstain from corruption. Instead, he remains watchful of his expanding borders, alert to any flicker of a foreign power that might warrant his attention.

Sorry I took so long to reply.

[Maedhros is the last of his brothers to be rehoused in a new hroa. Most people might have assumed it would be Caranthir, Celegorm, or Curufin who would be last. Instead, it is Maedhros who spent many yeni simply refusing to leave Mandos. After the disaster that his first life turned out to be, it is perhaps understandable that he had been wary of rejoining the living. As such, it is now still less than a year since he returned to Tirion.

When Celegorm returns from a hunting trip fuming about twisted, evil creatures, Maedhros is the brother King Finarfin sent to verify the hotheaded prince’s claim. And verify it, he has. It’s not that he’s seen any creature here yet, outside of the occasional crow. It’s that something about this land feels wrong. Familiarly wrong.]

Not a problem at all!

[personal profile] treachereye 2019-04-27 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[One of the crows Maedhros has seen throughout his ride has returned to him now, perching in a tree overlooking his route. It cocks its head to the side and lets out a rough call. From a distant point, another bird returns the call. Maedhros is certainly being watched now. His presence has been noted and communicated to a higher power.

The atmosphere surrounding him becomes more oppressive. There is a definite sense of unwelcome in the air. Sauron has noticed. He had deliberately chosen an isolated area, with no permanent inhabitants, because he wanted time to build and grow in secret. Nonetheless, he has always expected visitors. This is not Mordor. It is nowhere near so well protected, and his forces are too few to form a reliable guard. This is not the first trespass he has taken note of, but this one somehow seems deliberate. The birds have noted, for his benefit, how this person lingers and watches. It strikes him as significant enough that he has now put in a personal appearance, although he does not reveal himself yet, watching Maedhros from the shadows. There are deep shadows here, beneath the trees.

Sauron's own hroa is still new to him as well. At last he can take a form as fair as he wishes, one that does not instantly instill a sense of dread in all who see him. It is not the same as any form he has taken before. A new era demands a new face—or that is Sauron's preference. His new, fair face is creased by a frown. He doesn't like what he sees. A wind rustles through the branches, and the crow calls again.

I haven’t played Maedhros in a long time so he takes some waking up.

[personal profile] firstborncopper 2019-04-29 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Maedhros frowns at the deepened hostility of the land. That alone is enough to tell him someone is here, though not who it is. His hand drifts cautiously to his sword as he continues into the forest. This feels familiar from his first life. The only thing he can be sure of is that this is no balrog. Who or what else it is remains to be seen.]
treachereye: (will end in fire)

[[ooc: Take all the time you need! I've just started playing Sauron, and I don't always know what I'm doing.]]

[As Sauron watches, the more sure he is that he doesn't like what he sees in this stanger. Or—not a stranger, as there is a familiarity there, though it remains undefined at this distance. The important question is: is he going to reveal himself? He could withdraw. He's done that before, pulling back and biding his time, waiting to recover his strength. But why should he? He has no reason for reluctance now, not if he is meant to serve as a herald. Part of him even desires a confrontation of some kind.

With that in mind, he moves in, finally emerging from the dark trees within sight of Maedhros, but ahead of him. He lets himself be seen, then waits to see how this "traveler" will react.

Eep! This got buried in my inbox!

[personal profile] firstborncopper 2019-05-12 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Maedhros’ left hand drifts to his sword hilt when he sees the other figure. He doesn’t recognize the hroa but there’s something familiar about him. The one thing he knows for sure is that this being is far from benign.]

Who are you?
treachereye: (Default)

No trouble! Thanks for getting back to me.

[personal profile] treachereye 2019-05-13 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Sauron laughs briefly. He doesn't mind inspiring suspicion. He doesn't wish to have his preparations disturbed, but at the same time, it's hard for him to resist engaging in a little interaction. It might be entertaining. It has been a long time...]

Such a greeting. You demand my name without offering your own?

[Not that he's actually troubled by any rudeness, real or invented.]
firstborncopper: (Default)

No thanks are needed for that!

[personal profile] firstborncopper 2019-05-14 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
[Maedhros raises an eyebrow.]

I believe you are the stranger in this realm, not me. It is only reasonable that you introduce yourself first.
treachereye: (ice is also great)

[personal profile] treachereye 2019-05-14 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
[He could announce himself immediately and outright, but no, this is amusing him more. He smiles, his tone amicable, even if his words are not.]

That may be as you see it. I contend I have a right to these lands. You represent no authority I recognize.

[The authority he recognizes is admittedly narrow and puts him in the minority, but he's not intending to amend his ways now. The time for that, though it did once come, has passed.]

[personal profile] firstborncopper 2019-05-21 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
These lands belong to Tirion which in turn belongs to Valimar. As a prince of the realm, I again ask, who are you?
treachereye: (some say in ice)

[personal profile] treachereye 2019-05-21 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
I know what lands these are, and who lives here and claims them. Nonetheless, my statement stands, "prince of the realm". Your reign means nothing to me or to my lord.

[Sauron is still taking his time, enjoying himself. It has been a while since he was able to interact with the Eldar in this way.]
