Everyone had their theories on how the world would end. Not many thought most of them would be right at once.

It had begun when one of NASA's probes was intercepted by aliens almost three systems away. The creatures had come, without any intention of peace or communication. They brought with them a hijacked asteroid that they threw at the planet, wiping out a third of Earth's whole population in a single day. The scaly, triangular beasts then came down and ravaged the world for resources - including biological life. To study, to enslave, to...do what they wished.

John had been on holiday with Mary at the time. A quick get away to Spain, a break from chasing criminals. He had been lucky enough to survive the mega tsunami and sandstorm that took the earth. Mary, not so much. Radiation flooded the world. Some died quick, others...weren't so lucky. John is one of the unlucky ones.

While the aliens - or Reavers as people called them - took and killed many, others fought, picking up what weapons they could. John fought, even after his skin peeled and his eyesight became permanently discoloured. In an instant, everything had changed, and they were in hell.

Phone and internet had gone down on impact, the satellites shot down by the Reavers ships like tissue paper. They were too advanced. Humanity was primitive to them. Hunting sport.

John found himself with one goal left after Mary died. Get home.

He knew the chances were slim, but he needed something to fight for, to survive for. He travelled by foot and the occasional stolen, barely working car, across the continent, always heading north. To the Channel.

Mrs. Hudson...Greg...Molly...Harry...

...Sherlock. Christ, Sherlock.

Mycroft would have known what was happening, surely. He always had a plan. He would have put his brother in some sort of bunker or fallout shelter. Something. Anything. Sherlock HAS to be alive. And safe.

Please, God, let him be safe.
