Mod Post: Discussion Time

We have a Problems post but it's not an ideal place for discussion. So here's a post to voice your opinions of anything regarding Bakerstreet.
A couple of anons were asking after moderated posting or stricter rules about how often a meme can be posted.
That's one topic that can be discussed here.
Remember to play nice!

i love the idea of an 'ideas' meme every month or so though. it's a good pulse check.

The question is, what is considered identical. Like you say below "there are so many similar but juuuust different enough", and the more mods we have, the more varied our interpretations are of that issue.
For example, Crack Pairings meme and Unconventional Couple meme. Both
This is not to say a complete 'no' to your idea. Just a point I want to make.

If a meme gets less than ~10 top level tag-ins, it can't be reposted again for a specified period of time. Maybe 2 weeks? Feels like we get a lot of reposting of a half dozen memes that never get any hits, and they clutter up the first page with nobody playing on them.
Edit: Just read the linked comment to the problems post and yeah, exactly that.

it'd be a snap with moderated posting, though.

A/B/O Memes
I love A/B/O a lot, and I haven’t really found much of anything for A/B/O RPing on DW. So yeah, if anyone knows of any A/B/O memes (or wants to make any if there aren’t any in existence already), I would be really thrilled if they posted them here (or anywhere else on DW, for that matter).

I think they pop up about every month or two

Right now, the schedule alternates the shipping picture prompt meme one week, then the gen/AU picture prompt meme the next — but the gen meme is pretty multi-purpose and non-restrictive for those who want to play or prompt AU or shipping scenarios, while the AU/shipping-exclusive memes are much more targeted.
Having an integrated picture prompt meme that asks players who top level to state if they're OTA or only interested in gen/AU/shipping prompts would mean everyone gets a chance to play their particular flavor every week.

Some players just don't read the instructions well enough or can't be bothered to write their preferences. That leads to other players tagging them without knowing if they are after gen or shipping.

But, there should be a sticky post at the top of BS dedicated to putting active memes in comments. So you post a meme, and make a comment there with a link to the meme. That way people can easily keep track of the memes that are only posted once a month and they can still get some traffic through there even when they fall off the front page.
Then it would be the meme poster's job to edit the comment with new link whenever the meme is posted again. If they fail to do this or someone else posted the meme, it's still easy for mods to delete the comment. (There would have to be a rule to not comment to comments, because then you can't edit and also prevents clutter.)
Basically make it easier to find memes for people who're in the mood to rp. Having them in comments in one top post like this will give them the feeling of still being active and worth tagging to, I think. You'd simply have to keep the post clean.
(Obviously you'd still have to decide what is a lower traffic meme, but perhaps a case-by-case basis for this can be decided.)

Especially if they were banned here for being banned previously at a different open post/meme or game comm!

I will freeze this subthread now. Thank you for everyone's opinions.
A meme category I'd like to see
I haven't seen non-reverse "XYZ prompt" memes, where, I'm assuming, top level provides XYZ prompts and people pick a prompt and make a starter.
I'd love to see those, just because I'm canonblind to a lot of stuff and it would be nice to have something else to go on when tagging strangers.
(I generally like memes where top level at least provides some kind of idea to go off of for this reason, and I think it would help prevent "musedumping", where someone just dumps all their characters in as top levels then never tags out.)
Re: A meme category I'd like to see
It's this way because traditionally top levelers don't give prompts. At some point someone decided to "reverse the situation" and require top levelers to offer prompts (words or pictures), instead of just waiting for them.
Reverse memes are good but they also have the unfortunate side effect of cluttering the comm. It becomes a battle of who can post what. If every meme has a reverse version it becomes chaotic.
I realize it's hard to come up with new meme ideas. It would still be better to do something original instead of reversing what's already there.
Having said that, if you have a specific meme in mind, and you want to tweak it so that empty top levels are forbidden, go ahead and post it. And if you talk to us first, we know not to delete it if someone else complains about it.
