Very much aware of the stories of snakes and spiders as large as a dinner plate, James decides it's up to him to investigate. He announces himself with a slight note of concern, and then steps in.]

Heero Yuy has not been sick with a common virus since he was about six years old. That's why he didn't pay much mind to the precautionary tales of the flu virus tearing through the ranks at Preventer, despite talk of this year's strain being particularly virulent. Instead, he just quietly picked up the slack as more and more of his colleagues fell ill, bringing work home with him and tapping away at the keyboard long into the nights to keep their branch on track. It's pretty much the least he could do after Une basically giving him a solid three months off amidst... everything else that's happened lately.

When Heero feels a headache coming on, he is quicker to blame it on overwork and several days worth of limited sleep than anything else. Sure, he used to fight epic space battles on three days of not sleeping with barely a slip, but that was five years ago. The chills that come on around at about 2am are harder to explain, but maybe Duo had been messing with the thermostat again before he'd gone to bad. Heero generally let him set it to whatever he liked since Duo spent more time in the apartment.

What he really can't reason away, however, is why he's jerking awake a good hour and a half after he usually wakes - because Yuy doesn't need alarms, surely - bewildered to see sunlight streaming through the curtains. Also, his head swimming like he's been drugged and his entire body inexplicably feeling like he's taken a beating.

"The fuck...?" Heero groans, rubbing at his face, even that small movement slow and effortful.

[ Kiibo wouldn't be himself if he ignored a coughing fit and sniffling coming from Shuichi. Is this a cold? These symptoms indicate that this might be it. Just in case, he's going to step away. Better safe than sorry. ]

( it turns out that space was full of germs. vanessa had been in denial for the first few days, believing herself to be simply run down from the lack of sleep she'd been experiencing.

now vanessa really felt run down and though it wasn't anything serious (at least that's what she was trying to say) she wasn't looking as convincing as she was trying to make herself believe.

she'd gone to the mess hall, trying to still live as normally as possible. vanessa already felt lost most days, she didn't want this illness to make her feel any more useless )

In hindsight, traveling to the Fallow Mire with a stubborn cold isn't the wisest of ideas Aleanna has ever had in life. Those she can probably count on one hand. But more scouts have gone missing, and she isn't about to abandon the people fighting with and for her to the whims of a particularly dark and dank part of the world. Not to mention, Aleanna is as stubborn as a Druffalo; she's not one for giving up. Not easily, at least, even at the expense of her own health and well-being.

And so here she is, carefully trying to avoid wading through the thick and muddy waters so as to avoid Darkspawn attention. The last thing the group needs is a Darkspawn ambush on top of her cold.

"Achoo!" She lets out one sneeze, and then another; a chain reaction of sneezing follows. She sniffles and tries to discreetly wipe her nose as quietly as possible, coughing into the rough handkerchief she'd brought along with her.

She waves off the concern of her companions, insisting that she's perfectly alright, thank you.

'Perfectly alright' meaning that she can still very much walk and fight with this severe headache and fever, of course.

At last, though, she finally agrees to make camp for the night. It's unwise to travel too much further in, at this rate, regardless.

Aleanna helps set up the tents before grabbing a cup of tea and a mug of Nug soup. She finds herself a spot close to the campfire and tries to ignore the pounding in her head. This will be fine, she thinks to herself. She's walked out of the Fade; she survived Haven. What's a little cold compared to all of that?

( some people would take a closed door at face value— would assume that whoever had locked it had done so for a reason, that reason presumably being they didn’t want to be bothered. it’s a good ( or maybe a bad… ) thing that jian yi isn’t most people and when faced with keith’s locked door he does the perfectly sensible thing and backs up a couple steps before leaping and kicking it in.

he grins, as the door gives way, hits the inner wall of the room with a bag.

but that grin fades as he takes in the aura of death inside. ) Oi.

( is that lump under the covers keith?? he approaches until he’s standing at the edge of the bed looking down at said lump. )
