"At which point did you think that a dropping 15 feet was a good idea Quill?" Chris says in a stern tone as he was bandaging Peter's broken leg. It would hardly help much but had to do until they could get their hands on some medigel or a doctor. He was not good at this sort of thing so it didn't look good. But should hopefully stop things from getting worse.

Ronnie hasn't really gotten better at the whole 'taking a beating' thing, no matter how much practice he gets. He fights back too much, but not well. He yells out insults and goads; he lets all fear and adrenaline turn into a shield of hatred that he tells himself he's better off with the protection of.

The aftermath, though? That's gotten better. It always used to look like this, when he lived with his parents: limp back to his bedroom. Wait until the coast was clear to go to the bathroom. Use sink to clean up, pat dry with toilet paper so the towels don't get stained. Steal band-aids if they're around.

Now, he limps home. Now, his beatings always happen outside, and there's some acrid victory in that, in knowing that when he walks past his threshold to his communal living space, that that is what's safe. Now, there's a comforting pride in dressing his wounds without worrying someone might barge in and take his menial tools away from him. That, and now he can play his music however fucking loudly he pleases while he does it, which is no small thing.

Today, another evolution happens. Ronnie starts to limp home, already knowing he's looking at a bus ride or a very long walk, when a thought prickles in the back of his mind. He tries to resist scratching at it, but he can't. It's after dark - 9:29, his phone is helpful to tell him as he pulls it out, miraculously un-cracked.

Ronnie starts limping in a new direction, feeling shivers unrelated to the actual temperature jitter through his shoulders. He has to keep swallowing down his own frothy, blood-tasting saliva as it collects in his mouth at first, but then as his mouth gradually goes dry and he just feels the coppery scraping of dried blood against his teeth, he thinks he preferred the constant swallowing. His left...eye bone? hurts like hell, and when he touches it gently it's soft like the flesh on his palm right under his thumb, swollen and hot.

So: nothing too new. The only thing rattling him worse than the fight is where he's decided to go afterwards.

Ambrose replies that he's awake and at home, and asks why he's asking, and Ronnie nearly chokes on relief instead of blood. He's collecting the odd look from passersby, but no one actually wants to break the city-wide status quo enough to interrupt a bloodied, bruised young man with a mohawk, so he gets left alone.

He leans on the buzzer when he finally gets to Ambrose's complex. "Hey, uh, sorry for not texting back." He says the second he hears the click of the line going live - Ambrose picked up. "Can I come up?"

anyway kyouka is probably having a fine day. outside. the weather is nice, the sun is shining, the birds are singing, and in the distance, there's the sound of a man screaming. from directly overhead. and it's getting closer. then there's the spectacular sound of something heavy crashing into-and-through the tree kyouka's standing next to.

maybe she's nimble enough to dodge the ensuing hailstorm of broken branches! maybe she isn't! either way, the falling branches are followed by the thump of a stranger hitting the ground near her with all the grace of a sack of potatoes. ]

Ah ... that wasn't as far of a fall as I expected ...

[ it's wheezy and out of breath, but drang somehow still manages to get out that little quip in between winded gasps. still lying on his back, he looks over at where he was pretty sure he saw a person in the split-second between emerging from the tree and hitting the ground. ]
