Oh, good. That sounds a lot better than getting some inter-dimensional tentacle horrormonsters climbing into my room through a rift in the time-space continuum. ( there's also the point of: how much can he trust of what comes out of loki's mouth? at the very least, loki's not quite big enough of a jerk to cause problems for his brothers and parents--so he'll believe him, for now. )

Busy-ish. It's midterms season. ( which isn't nearly as exciting as fighting aliens and monsters, he knows. ) You'd think after the whole "helped save the world" and "one day you'll be the Demiurge" thing, school would be so much less important.

[ There's a poster of Steve Rogers on the wall that catches Loki's eye as Billy fills him in. He imitates a Captain America voice with a lazy salute to the sentiments of Midgardian education. ]

Stay in school, kids! Ah, but you're not in class here and now ... [ If permitted, he reaches over to brush down some of Billy's bedhead with gentle fingers. ] Are you being extra good and filling your evenings with revising? In your Trek pyjamas, too.

( that gets his attention, head turning towards loki as his nose scrunches up, brows furrowed because--loki, please. it's one thing to have the god of mischief in his room, it's another thing entirely to have him imitating one of his heroes.

he allows the touch; leans into it a little even, a soft hum passing his lips. ) Usually they're reserved for sleeping. ( shoulders raise in a lazy shrug. ) How about you? I haven't seen you around in a while.

[ Oh, it's lovely to pet that floppy fringe back into place, a minor intimacy that he covets with immediate devotion; an ordinarily thieving touch uses the same lightness to stroke through Billy's hair, mindful of any knots. Even Verity fusses Loki away when he gets too handsy with her dyed locks. ]

I have ... an apartment. In Manhattan. [ May as well admit it, by now. Other details, however, he keeps schtum on, because there is no need to taint the pretty evening's memory with miserable truths. ] I'm somewhat freelance, you might say. I don't suppose you want to hire me for the night?

[ There's that 'I have too much insinuation and not enough smoothness' wink again. ]

A freelancing god? ( that earns loki a laugh, soft and barely there. it feels nice, having fingers in his hair. if loki needed any further encouragement, billy will give it to him: he tilts his head into the touch, closes his eyes they brush through strands.

at least that means he misses the really stupid wink, right. the milkman and the plumber comment, and now this--well. it's not as if loki's well-known for his subtle nature. ) Definitely not. I'm not into hiring mischief makers. ( it's said fondly, however. )

That's a shame, I'll just have to mooch off your goodwill and revoke your right to complain at a later date.

[ The curl of his knuckles slides down Billy's cheek, a thumb catching on the mage's chin. ]

Are you very tired? I can be quiet.

[ A grand offer indeed. ]

I'm not tired. ( not that kind of tired. loki's thumb presses to his chin, and billy tilts his head up, opens his eyes once more to look directly into piercing green. there's a small smirk that plays at the corners of his lips, his own hand raising to press over loki's. )

And I'll definitely complain about your mooching later.

As long as you don't kick me out in just your sweatpants.

[ His hand slips around Billy's like water over oil, scooping it up so he can press a kiss to Billy's knuckles without breaking eye-contact. ]

That would look funny for a whole host of other reasons.

Yeah no. You'll be fully clothed before I kick you out the window. ( not the front door, that'd be absurd. the press of lips against his hand gets a reaction out of him; billy's leaning in closer, still keeping eye contact. )

I don't think those're really your size.

I've grown since you gave me a boost.

[ Humour permeates a toothy grin, albeit not without merit. After all the exhausting missions the All-Mother forced him to complete and allowed to eat breakfast meats whenever he pleases, Loki's height tops six-feet and his shoulders have filled out; the body is his, well and truly. Some things remain the same, unique to him amongst Lokis, one of which on display is a smooth hairless chest that leans at an incline toward Billy, along with every other part of him.

Billy himself ... ]

You look much the same as when last I saw you.

[ Not at all a bad thing; the same old crush curdles to life somewhere between Loki's ribs just from being this close to Billy. ]

( yes, loki truly isn't the small, mischievous kid billy had first met. he wasn't a child before he'd met him either, despite the size he'd been; billy, fond as he is of following norse mythology and legends about thor and loki himself, knows full well loki hasn't been young for a very long time.

the bigger body is different from before, but definitely not unwanted. he breaks eye contact finally to look down to loki's skin as it presses against his, before his gaze moves right back up to his face, his eyes, free hand moving to press against the center of his chest. not pushing, not pulling, but giving himself something to latch onto. )

I'm only human. ( and humans don't grow several years all at once thanks to magic boosts. generally speaking. )

I think you're a little bit more ... [ Billy's hand feels like warm coals on Loki's cool skin, making him briefly close his eyes and tip his head sideways onto his own shoulder. ] You always were.

[ Green eyes flicker open, sliding to catch brown. In the same deliberately light thoughtful tone, he asks, ]

How are things with you and Teddy?

( billy's demeanor shifts near-instantly. the warm, open way he'd been responding to loki closing off immediately, expression twisted into something much more unpleasant than it had been. he catches it himself--tries to shake it off. keeps his palm pressed to loki's chest and curls his fingers in, pressing blunt nails into flesh. )

We're. . not. Not right now. ( that's what loki was asking, isn't it? ) I don't want to talk about it.

We don't have to.

[ Trying to be a better person doesn't mean he wins every battle in the war, satisfied that Teddy isn't going to come rambling around the Kaplans' tonight or interrupt them with texts. Does that make Loki a jerk? Well, it isn't often even now that he's nice, as he told Kamala.

It doesn't hurt when nails dig into his chest, at least not without some arcane magic alight around them. Loki sighs loudly to break the tension in the air and flops back on Billy's bed, arms folding under his head. ]

I'd much rather talk about how much you've missed me, anyway!

( dropping the teddy subject is good. he breaths a sigh of relief, watches loki flop backwards but doesn't follow him down. )

How much I missed you? You're the one who left, remember? ( he muses quietly, moves a hand back behind him to press against the mattress, resting his weight against it. yes, loki fucked up. but which one of them hasn't at one point or another? )

I missed having you around, you dork.

[ Having the grace to look chastised (I left to keep you all safe from my untethered heart) Loki wiggles his toes under the blankets. ]

I ... I missed you too. Most of you. [ His nose wrinkles. ] Not Noh-Varr, his beard-escapades and love of tasteless artists drove me crazy.

[ Honesty! A gift, truly. Bringing an arm from under his head, he chases Billy's braced hand on the duvet and seeks out his gaze. ]

You most.

Noh-Varr wasn't that bad. . ( his beard was pretty bad. also his weird tastes. but aside from that. billy tilts his head back, looks to his hand with loki's over it first, before meeting loki's gaze once more. )

You're just buttering me up in case you've got to use my magic as a tether again, aren't you? I'm onto you.

[ That prompts a chuckle and Loki glances away to the paraphernalia of Billy's room. ]

I promise I'll be good as new in a while, no fear. Out of your life like I never needed an emergency save-point.

Loki. ( why is this so hard. he shifts his weight forward, again. raises that hand that's positioned under loki's own to turn it around, threading their fingers together, if loki doesn't fight against him. )

I didn't say you had to go, did I? It's nice, seeing you again. I don't mind being your emergency save point when you need one. I'm a little disappointed it took you needing me before you came to visit, but heck, I'll take it.

It's nice to be wanted.

[ Eventually though, he will leave, no matter how hearing he's welcome at Billy's side inspires a softer smile. His fingers thread through those that cover his hand and he sighs again, quieter and sincere as he gazes up at him. ]

You're still as beautiful as ever, you know. [ Inside and out. ] It used to be so terribly annoying.

( expecting loki to stay around would be a little idiotic; he's a god, he won't stick around for long, and even if he had--loki's definition of long is probably at least a little skewered from billy's. billy ages. he'll be gone in the blink of an eye, as far as loki is concerned. demiurge or not. )

I'm really not. ( he's assuming loki means inside considering the way he's worded it. regardless, inside or outside wouldn't make too much of a difference in how he responded. ) I'm just as selfishly motivated as anyone else. Maybe even more so. Probably more. Me, saying you can stick around? Entirely selfish on my part. I'm not saying that to make you feel better.

I'm saying it for me.

[ The keen way he keeps his attention on Billy shifts from fondness to concern, sitting up smoothly to brush along Billy's jaw and catch a hold in his hair, the pad of his thumb resting under an ear. ]

I'll stay if you really want me to, at least for a while. I will, Billy.

( it's billy's turn to shift his eyes elsewhere, isn't it. loki's fingers thread through his hair, and he looks off to the side of him--still keeping loki in his peripheral vision, but avoiding gazing directly at him.

he still smiles. ) Don't you have important, godly-things to attend to?

I have a dodgy toaster that needs replacing and a best friend to reassure I'm not dead, but other than that ...

[ A tweak is given to Billy's hair as Loki ducks to catch his eye. ]

I can be all yours.

[ Billy's depression isn't a fleeting beast, Loki remembers. It gnaws at his confidence like Nidhogg at the roots of Yggdrasil. If Loki can ease its grip on him even a little and shake off Billy's inner serpents, he certainly will. A debt owed, yes, but ... he also fears the outcome of leaving Billy alone when he himself engineered the worst kind, once upon a time. ]

( it's a soft pull, but it's definitely enough to get his attention. he looks directly at loki, hesitance pretty clear in his eyes, but-- )

Do you want to be? ( that's the important part, isn't it? it's not "i want you to be" or "i want you to stay"--it's a question. he's better with his words now, but--it's still best to be a little to be a little cautious. )
