❄ it's quiet and the snow's beautiful tonight → a winter open meme ‧ post with whatever character you want ‧ responders roll for weather + scenario and get to threading ‧ ??? ‧ profit snowfall; stage i; none, streets are already blanketed in white. stage ii; very light and intermittent. stage iii; light - moderate. lasts longer periods. stage iv; continuous, heavy snowfall. stage v; the hardest of cores - blizzards, snowstorms, you name it. scenarios; ① fuck the police, this is the best time for a walk. hope you've got a nice thick coat on. ② stranded in the buttcrack of nowheresville? weren't you watching the time? now you've gone and missed that last bus out of there. or maybe you're lost, somehow. what do? ③ literally chilling, in this weather, is quite easy to do. sitting around relaxing in it is a wee more difficult, but sometimes much more enjoyable, especially if shelter can be found. the snow is beautiful to watch, after all. ④ the weather's not going to stop you. your snow fort's packed full of ammo and ready to go. those aren't snow angels over there; they mark where the poor souls you've downed have fallen. be careful with that snowman's head!! ⑤ you're about fifty miles from civilization but there's a roof over your head, so never mind the chilly draught, right? right. you mightn't be the only one lucky enough to stumble upon this little shelter, though. remember to share the blanket. ⑥ everyone stuck outside should be jelly. you've got a fireplace and hot cocoa and damn if it isn't awesome. a heater's not quite so romantic, but it'd do. there'd better be a backup generator in case the power trips. ⑦ mix and match, or make up your own ‧:❉:‧ - from krystaliske @ memebells

"I did say later, and this is one of our first dates." He'll admit to it, he's learning to adjust to it, to forgive everything that had been taken away, torn down, replaced. Memories overlapping memories.

"I'd have to sweettalk you out of the Kitchen first."

"The point still stands." Matt nudges Danny with his elbow, and finds the cream and sugar once his coffee comes.

"Mm, you haven't told me what's on the menu."

"I'm surprised you couldn't tell just by walking in." He turns the simple paper menu over and reads off the things he'll think interest Matt. Likely anything with meat or blueberries.

"Or you could just share mine."

"The smells all mingle together if I don't know specifically what's there." Though there are some stand outs, like sausages, typical breakfast fare.

"What are you eating?" Maybe he sounds suspicious, because Danny's always trying to feed him strange and healthy things. Which Matt is fine with, he likes healthy, but he's a meat and potatoes guy. "You know what? Surprise me."

"They have a traditional breakfast here that's a little bit of everything. I thought it might appeal to your Irish-american palate." He stops Matt from grabbing the packet of sweetener and leads him to a pack of sugar instead.

"I'll surprise you on dessert." Because dessert with breakfast? Why not?

"I think I can agree on all of that. Even dessert."

Once he takes the sugar from Danny, Matt sneaks his hand into Danny's, letting their fingers twine together before Danny can take it away. He stirs his coffee with his other hand.

He's more than happy to fit their hands together, thumb rubbing up along the backs of his knuckles fondly. It was a familiar gesture, one he missed, which leaves him in no hurry to let go or pull away.

"Hey, Matty."

It's easy to pretend that nothing ever happened, and Matt finds himself falling easily into that mentality until he reminds himself that things aren't the way they used to be. He sips at his coffee and raises his eyebrows.

"Hmm?"

And because maybe they're both thinking the same thing. "We're gonna be okay." He gives his hand a squeeze, letting it linger for a moment before finally pulling away so he can tend to his own tea and order from the server once she returns to their table.

"I know."

Matt smiles, though he doesn't sound convinced. He takes another drink from his coffee, listening to Danny order and to the other people in the restaurant.

Even Danny can tell he isn't convinced, and he tries not to frown as he finishes up the order, then promptly hooks his feet around Matt's ankle under the table.

"You're a better lawyer than that."

"I don't know what you mean."

Matt nudges Danny a bit, and, taking a chance, turns to press a fleeting kiss to Danny's cheek.

"Don't play sweet with me." But he laughs anyway, taking Matt's hand again and leaning to bump their foreheads together.

"Do you wanna try to move forward?"

"You know I do." Matt would be happiest if they just moved back in with one another. "I'm just following your lead."

"I'm an awful leader." He's not sure why he's beating around the bush so much, maybe he's waiting for something to change, for something to give. Or maybe for the last little bit of sting to wear off.

"It's supposed to snow again, if you want to get snowed in at my place, I guess that'd be ok."

Matt ducks his head. He doesn't want to appear too eager, but that's about the best thing he thinks he could hear.

"I think I could do that. The heat is broken at my apartment again, anyway."

[dannyrand]

"Does your landlord know? Or is he off on vacation again?" Danny tries not to think too much on the sorry state of the building Matt lives in, and really they'd been a lot better off together. And he doesn't really like throwing around the fact that he's considerably well off (as billionaires go) but he liked being able to take care of almost everything.

"He's out of town. His ex-wife is threatening him with a lawsuit so he went to go smooth things out. Though, honestly, if she sues him and wins then I think she gets the building which could be a win for all of us."

Matt shrugs a shoulder. He doesn't mind. For a place in Hell's Kitchen, it's a good price. "One of my neighbours was saying her son-in-law is going to come have a look at it."

"Well you should come stay with me until it's fixed." He says against the lip of his tea cup, giving Matt's leg another nudge under the table.

"Who knows how long that might take." This is great. Better than Matt could hope for, honestly. "I don't want to impose."

[dannyrand]

That only sounds a little devious, Matty.

"I'm not sure you're really imposing, Matt, it isn't as if we haven't been room mates." Or, you know, lovers... fiance's even. But he's not sure he should say it.

"I know. But now you know I'm a massive asshole."

Danny gets a nudge in return, but Matt gives him a smile. "I'd like that. I promise I'll clean up after myself."

"The biggest. But I still really like you for some reason." He inclines his head, then leans back as the server returns with their food.

"I hope so, I'd hate to have to pay the house keeper extra"

"You already pay her double."

Matt flashes their server a smile, then folds his hands on the table. "Okay. Tell me what everything is so I don't eat something weird."

"She does a good job and looks like Alice from the Brady Bunch." He's pretty sure that's worth more than what a normal house keeper should make.

"I don't think any of it's really weird, it's like a traditional English breakfast...." He picks up his silverware to cut and divide everything up to put on another plate for Matt. "Okay maybe the beans on toast, that's a little weird."
