Stiles looks up from the book he's reading, raising an eyebrow slightly. It's not that he's surprised that Isaac is talking to him (okay, maybe he is just a little, the guy is pretty good at being broody when he isn't snarking), but he honestly had become so engrossed in his book on native american folklore (research) that he hadn't realized that the werewolf was still there.

"Yeah? What's up?"

"You know, I don't actually hate you. Or dislike you. At all. Right?"

...all right, he was sort of bad at getting into this conversation.

"Really?" Stiles closed the book, then, shifting in his seat a bit to provide Isaac more of his attention. It wasn't that he was that surprised, but it wasn't really in Isaac to randomly blurt out things like that.

"I mean--who could hate me, right? I'm pretty inoffensive, most of the time." A little smirk hit his lips then, a deflection.

"Well, yeah, but I don't just mean I don't hate you. I mean I actually like you. Which I have to admit, really surprised me."

Saying you were surprised to actually like someone was a great way to say you had a crush on them, right?

"Well I happen to like myself, it's a nice--"

Wait.

Wait.

Forgive him, Isaac, he needs a moment to get his brain to catch up to the entire situation. Shifting in his seat, his mouth gapes a bit before he finally finds words.

"Wait, do you like, like like me?" Yes, he realized he just sounded like he was twelve; whatever. The phrasing still works.

No matter how childish the wording, Isaac's tone is completely serious.

"Yeah, that's exactly what I mean."

"...huh."

Stiles looked at him for a moment, then started laughing, nervously. "You know, I knew you were an asshole, but saying that is just kind of cruel." Because there is no way in hell Isaac likes him. No fucking way, right?

Isaac rolled his eyes.

"I don't think putting you in the horrible position of rejecting me really counts as cruel."

He'd already figured Stiles would, anyway.

"Dude, I've never been in the position to reject anyone.." Stiles frowned, and shrugged slightly, giving a bit of a smirk. "And why do you think I'd reject you, anyways?"

"...because people usually do?"

Isaac was pretty sure he'd never had anyone interested in him like that.

"...have you ever known me to be normal?" He raised an eyebrow. "I mean really. I don't really do normal very well."

And he's never actually been on the end of someone saying something like this so well, it takes him a second to process.

"I uh--I mean, okay so you like me. But what are you going to do with it. Was it just an 'fyi' kinda thing? Or something else."

"I...didn't really think it through that far."

He'd expected to just be laughed at, and didn't want to get his hopes up by even thinking about the possibility of Stiles saying 'yes'.

"Well, buddy, normally you'd ask me out on a date, or tell me that's all you wanted to say, and let me get back to my book." Stiles raised an eyebrow. "Or do you take all your social cues from Derek, which means you are just going to stare and brood at me?"

"While I don't mind taking cues from Derek, I don't think that one would really be too helpful right now. Want to go out for coffee some time?"

He managed to sound more confident than he was, helped by the fact that it was Stiles who brought up the issue of a date in the first place, implying that he wasn't entirely against the idea.

"See, that wasn't so hard, was it?" Stiles gave a bit of a smile, and nodded. "You ask me, and I say yes. Which, for the record, I do." So he'd never been asked out before; he'd seen enough tv to know how this went, at least.

"No, it wasn't," he admitted. "You do? Great! Friday after school?"

"...sure." Stiles gave a little bit of a laugh--this was entirely too surreal.

"Since you asked, you're paying though. Got to treat this girl right." He kicked back his feet...and nearly fell out of his chair. Suave, Stiles. Real suave.

The paying part wasn't even the part Isaac focused on. He'd ask Derek for money.

"Did you really just call yourself a girl?"

"It was a joke. I know you and Derek don't know that term very well, but hey, I do." He rolled his eyes, but smiled a bit anyways.

"Right. I got that." No, he really didn't. "See you on Friday."
