Nature is no respecter of persons, my friends. Whether it be childhood friends, newlyweds, or one-night stands, a single decision or accident can change everything, and there will be three people instead of just two.

Congratulations! The characters in these threads and those who reply to them are now expecting babies, no matter what their unique situation may be. Of course, depending on the characters, this might go over like a lead balloon. But wait! Even if the decision to have a baby was made and was consensual, the process is no walk in the park. There is lots to do...and only nine months to do it. Nine potentially drama-filled months.

HOW TO PLAY

• Comment with your character, preferences, etc.
• Not all options here are fluffy and happy. Some are potentially angsty or possibly triggering. Tread lightly. Be sure to mention what you want and what you don't want.
• Reply to others.
• For this, male characters can get pregnant because why not.

PROMPTS

• How'd It Happen: What led up to this event? How are you in this situation?


• Realization: There's a wrench in the works...or maybe it was expected, but you're just realizing you're pregnant.


• Positive Reaction: Yes, after all this time and planning! You're finally ready for a family.


• Negative Reaction: Oh, no. This is terrible. You're in no position to take care of a child!


• Freak Outs: But...how? You're a human, she's an alien, how -


• Deciding What to Do: If this wasn't planned, there needs to be a plan of action now.


• Keep it Secret: You're attempting to keep your pregnancy a secret from your partner. This is only a bandaid for the bigger problem.


• Telling Others: The other people in you two's life have to know at some point.


• Drama: No one wanted you to have a kid and the anger is palpable.


• Morning Sickness and More: Everything hurts and the mornings are hell.


• Learning: If you're in a technologically advanced society, you may get to see an ultrasound. Otherwise, there are folk remedies that can be tried.


• Manipulation: One of you is using the prospect of a child to bend the other to their will and make them stay.


• My Body is a Cage: The person carrying the baby is having a decent amount of discomfort, mentally and physically.


• Showing: It's a secret no longer with an expanding stomach.


• Support: The partner who isn't carrying the child should do their best to be there and help out...


• Overprotective: ...but to a degree. Don't act like the partner carrying the child is made of paper.


• Getting Ready: The house or apartment or castle has to be babyproof.


• Heart to Heart: It's time to talk about the big changes before the happen. Where do the two of you stand?


• It's Happening: THE BABY IS COMING.


• Rough Going: Childbirth is still a dangerous affair and there's no smooth sailing for you. So pace if you're lucky, scream in the bed if you're not.


• Bad End: Not all new beginnings last. Sometimes, they become unhappy endings.


• Coming Home: Finally, parents and baby get to settle down.


• Getting Used to This: Well, maybe settle down. There's still crying in the night, feedings to do, diapers to change...

Nora turns up a few times a year and it's kind of a routine they've fallen into. Nothing defined, but she's a friend and Jax usually has a place for her to crash when she's in town. She's good company, a good source when they need a little extra inventory, and she doesn't have any expectations.

So that was it. Over in an instant. Wasn't that just the story of Derek's life? Nothing good ever stayed. No one good ever stayed. They'd had their ups and downs; God knew they fought like a married couple over stupid miscommunications and insecurities before they'd finally settled in with one another. He'd moved. He'd gotten a job even though he didn't need it. He'd made friends. He'd started a life...and just like that, everything was gone.

Derek still remembers that empty, hollow feeling when the town had just...ceased to be. Everything he'd worked for, everything he'd built, just gone. What options did he have? Going back to Beacon Hills was out; he promised himself — he'd promised her, after that last time with Peter — that he wouldn't. So...he had just...gone back to Manhattan. Holed himself up in Neal's abandoned apartment with what little of his own possessions Derek could be bothered to take with him and he just...waited.

Staying there was a bad idea, he knew that, but a part of him wasn't willing to let it all go; staying at Neal's was a way of refusing himself the ability to move on. Maybe they would come back. Maybe it would all come back to him and this wasn't actually like the end of the world as he knew it.

Days turned into weeks. Weeks turned into months; the months had turned into a year and Derek decided that he needed to do something with himself rather than rot to death of depression in someone else's apartment.

Tomorrow. He'd...figure out what to do with himself tomorrow. He'd give himself one more day to wallow and then tomorrow...he'd pick himself up and get on with his life the best that he could in the meantime.

[ The first time it happens, the touches, the kiss, Natasha isn't sure why she does it. She can't answer. He doesn't respond well to it. Tries to tell her he's "sick", that starting anything with him will lead to nowhere good. She tells him he's full of shit. He's not the only one with blood on his hands and he's kidding himself if he thinks he's done worse than her. That first time had led to a lot of silence between them.

By the second one, maybe it's because she's drawn to these people that are like her. Broken in some way, messed up and willing to put their life on the line to make some kind of difference. Maybe she thinks she can help them. Or feel something real with them. Something she isn't faking. For once.

Or maybe she's trying to prove to herself she's not the monster she thinks herself to be. And neither are they. Life has been shitty to them and they've done what they can to survive it. Ultimately, she's not sure.

After a particularly brutal firefight one night, she's not sure of anything except for how lucky she is she didn't get hit. Neither of them did. That they're both alive. She doesn't even notice what Frank is doing until he's there in front of her and his lips are on hers. She's... stunned. Not easy to do. Good job, Castle.

It comes easier to them both after that second kiss. He's real. They both are. It's like they fall and blend into each other each time. She finds herself relishing every smile she sees from him. Tries to get a few more because she's greedy like that.

She continues to come back to Hell's Kitchen in between missions. Sometimes to help him, other times to distract him.

Until, one morning, she wakes up feeling sick.

She doesn't get sick. Not usually. And certainly not without warning of some kind.

That morning she wakes up, feeling nauseous, she can't take the smell of coffee being brewed in the other room, Frank no longer in the bed with her. Which was usual for him. She bolts from the edge of the bed and into the bathroom. She stays there, on the floor, after she vomits into the bowl. Her muscles ache and her stomach is continuing to churn. It isn't long before the next wave happens and she's hugging the bowl again. ]

Anne had been cautiously optimistic when she started feeling ill in the mornings, but had tried to rein in her emotions until she could have her suspicions officially confirmed. She was ecstatic when the physicians diagnosed her pregnancy, and bribed them into secrecy claiming that she wanted to reveal the news to the king herself.

She's waiting for the right moment, of course, calculating what she wanted as a reward for bearing the king's child. She wasn't expecting, however, a new tribute to the harem the king spends a little too much time staring at during the feast. The girl is beautiful, of course, as they all are. And Anne is suddenly too aware of the fact that her body will swell within the next few months, her carefully maintained figure will be gone for the sake of nurturing a child.

Anne doesn't admit that she left the feast angrily, though she does. She didn't even have the chance to gloat about her news before the king's attention was stolen away. For the sake of her child, however, Anne calms herself and begins to plan again. She would just have to show the king that she couldn't be so easily replaced.

Forgoing the rich jewels and brightly colored silks she wore, Anne put on the plainest clothes she owned, pale lavender and quite unassuming compared to what all the other women wore, but showed off her belly. She wasn't showing obviously, though there was a small swell to her stomach that definitely wasn't there before. She strolled through the royal gardens, on the path the king had the take when he returned to his chambers later, determined to create a chance meeting.
