It's a coffee shop. You're a hot barista, or just visiting because of the hot barista. It's a hot summer day, so why not go for a Grande Special Deluxe Western Style Low Sugar Peppermint Macchiato? Or just a simple pumpkin spice latte that is, for the sake of convenience, available all year round.?Either way, this is a setting-based meme, so take it from here however you please!

[... yeah, good call on that. plus, like Ruby can see through Blake's little white lie; the other girl describes an extremely plausible situation, after all. with mock sternness, Ruby starts wagging a finger at her friend, shaking her head.]

Tsk tsk, Blake! You know how much Yang loves her Super Duper Sour Blitz Balls... [... even from just saying the name, Ruby visibly cringes and sticks out her tongue.] Ugh, just thinking about them makes me go "blehhhh."

I know, right? They're awful.

[ blake can handle like, half of one and even then she's awake for two days straight after. ]

Is your drink any good?

Waaay better than whatever I just said.

[already wanting to forget that grossness (she loves Yang, she really does, but sometimes even she wonders how the heck they're related), she gives a sagelike nod as she takes another sip.]

Sometimes I want to try something different, but it's so hard to when your favorite is always so good.

[ tbf you're only half related.

blake almost wants to comment that ruby's favorite is, in fact, terrible. but she manages to hold her tongue and not express her coffee related hate. she can't have other customers overhearing her, after all. ]

I have an idea. The next time you come here, pick something new and it'll be on the house, okay? Just make sure it's during my shift.

[Ruby makes a face that's half disbelief, half puppy dog eyes. 1) aw, one of her best friends is doing something nice for her! 2) she's getting stuff that usually costs money for free.]

Seriously? You really mean it?

Of course. I wouldn't offer otherwise.

[ seriously though, make sure it's during her shift cause no one else would do it. ]

[without further warning, Ruby jumps out of her chair and leaps over to Blake's side, hugging the other girl tightly. the perks of friendship...!]

When do you work next?

[bows]

[ blake lets out a startled noise, but this is also something she is more or less used to at this point. she pats ruby on the back. ]

Two days from now. If you behave I'll even add in a free pastry.

[Ruby gasps, as if Blake told her she just won the lottery. she's even literally vibrating a little with excitement.]

Even one of those huuuge sugardoodle cookies with the super chocolatey chips and caramel glaze?

[bows]

Yup. But only if you behave.

[ blake does not specify what falls under the category of behaving. ]

Then on that day, I promise to be Ruby Rose, upstanding model citizen!

[here she releases her hold on Blake to stand with her back straight, hands on her hips, and head high. basically she is imitating Weiss. the pose doesn't hold for very long, though, as she quickly slouches back down.]

... Whatever that means.

I'm not too sure either.

[ even when they're saving the day, they usually break a couple of rules and buildings while doing it. it's a tough job. ]

Either way, I'll behave! [one hand goes up, while she crosses the other across her heart.] Team leader's honor! For the cookie!

[ blake chuckles. she doesn't really get to do nice things like this very often, since it's not like any of them besides weiss has a lot of extra money to spare. it's nice. ]

For the cookie. Are you doing anything later?

[very quickly remembering why she came here in the first place, she picks up her drink and downs quite a bit of it to make up for not doing so for the past few minutes.]

Other than finishing this coffee before it gets cold and also sleeping at some point? Not really.

[she totally has the coffee equivalent of a milk mustache right now btw]

[ blake's lips twitches into a smile at that. ruby hasn't truly drank something if she doesn't get some sort of mustache from it. ]

It's pretty dead in there. [ she nods towards the coffee shop. ] I'll probably have to go back inside so they don't think i'm goofing off too much, but I can chat.

[she nods and stands up, already heading for the inside of the shop. she quickly turns back around, though, a lot more excitable than she probably should be.]

Ooh—can you show me how you make coffee? Like, a fancy drink! The kind that Weiss would probably order.

[bows]

I can show you how much bad taste she has, yes.

[ blake follows her, shaking her head slightly because god. weiss definitely is the type to have the most complicated order in the world. blake is so grateful she hasn't come here during one of her shifts. ]

[which for some reason surprises Ruby. she knows Weiss can be... well, Weiss, but she wouldn't think her partner would be that bad. then again, she doesn't work customer service or food service, so she wouldn't really know, she guesses.]

That bad?

[bows]

I've never had to actually make it myself yet, but I've heard the horror stories.

[ once back inside, blake immediately heads for the counter, although her pace is slow enough for ruby to keep up with her. ]

Isn't she into diets and stuff? Why would she want a super sugary drink, then?

[Ruby is already formulating plans to bother Weiss about this later. she follows Blake and puts her elbow on the counter, propping herself up on it. hopefully the other baristas won't mind?]

[bows]

[ the other baristas all look like they'd rather be doing anything else than be here. it's that dead. ]

Listen, Ruby. The first thing you need to realize is that some people take their caffeinated beverages very, very seriously. [ blake says as if she doesn't do the same thing??? ]

[scytheology]

[Ruby contemplates that assertion for a second—like, literally, a split second—before just uttering,]

This is Weiss we're talking about.

[bows]

[ she raises an eyebrow but doesn't comment. instead, she grabs an empty cup and sets it down. ]

Are you ready to first witness this?

[scytheology]

[the motion gets Ruby to stop slouching and actually devote her attention to what's about to take place in front of her.]

[she is way too excited about this. then again, she's Ruby. so.]
