Under the Sea AU Meme

Whether it’s the little mermaid or 20,000 leagues, this meme is all about the mysterious depths of the sea and the creatures that live in it. Which now very well may include you. Are you a marine biologist, a submarine explorer, or a creature of the dark and murky abyss? Perhaps, like Ahab, you’ve spent years on the waves, hunting some creature that lurks beneath. Perhaps you live in a house by the sea, and every night you watch the waves, but tonight the waves have dragged in something new and different.

There are unknown realms beneath the sea. Dread Cthulhu sleeps. Ariel sings. And adventure is awaiting.

How to play:
- Post with your character’s preferred role and a prompt or two, along with preferences and any canon or AU info that might be important.
- Venture forth into the watery deeps.

[His curiosity had gotten the better of him. Jeile knew that he had been swimming too close to the shore, but he never expected to be caught up in a big wave and washed into shallow water. That would not have been so bad as he easily would have been able to move back into deeper water. What made things really bad were that the same wave that had caught him also had move a rock that now had his fins pinned and he could not get lose.

He had spent hours twisting and turning and tried to get the rock to move, but he were stuck face down and could not twist his body in a good enough angle to get the stupid rock to budge. He felt frustrated, in pain and increasingly more dry as the low tide had moved in, giving him even less water to be in. All things not good.]

[Sudden storms could bring all sorts of mishaps to those sailing on the ocean waves. It could turn out badly for sea life as well and most merfolk found shelter when the sea got rough.

Byakuran on the other hand wasn't like most merpeople. No, he swam through the rough waves with glee. Danger excited him and the big open sea could be so dull at times. Why he moved about during this terrible storm, having fun with following a poor ship he had spotted. And oh, was that a human struggling to get to the surface?

It was! He smiled widely and swam up to the struggling human. Poor thing unable to get any air and being pushed down by the waves, it would not take long for him to drown at all. Well he could have the kindness to help keeping him over the waves until the storm died down, but that could take time.

But there was another thing he could do to save his life. Reaching out, Byakuran grabbed the human's face and pulled him close, looking at him with pale purple eyes for a second before kissing him. Some merfolk could turn humans into one of them by kissing and he had that ability. The human on the other hand would probably find it strange to get gills and a fish tail instead of legs, but he were alive at least.]

It was one thing to linger by the shore, to watch the humans from afar; it was another to actually interact with them, laughing at their surprised yelps.

Dating one seemed like the next step, as careful as they needed to be to hide her away from other people and him from her own sea brethren. White reasons that it's only to get back at her brother and the silly traditions of her kind -- because what could be worse than one of their own being with a human, really -- but it's hard to ignore the lightness she feels when she sees Leonardo again, waiting by the shore like they promised.

She reasons that it's only because he's something interesting, not because she might like him, though that's reaching at this point. Holding his hand is too present in her thoughts for that, though she pretends she's content with false names and leaning on rocks.]

No one followed you, right? I don't want to have to cut today short because one of your friends decided to try and find out why you go to the beach so often if you're not there for the other girls.

[ Mermaids? Until a few months ago, Leo had been none the wiser about their existence. Fairy tales, that's all they had been to him. Stories that are meant to be told to kids who still had the imagination to dream of such wild things.

Never did he imagine that he would end up meeting one. And even more unimaginable was the fact that he would start dating one. Or, well, if they could even refer to this as 'dating'. It's not that there's a lack of feelings-- not from Leo's side, at least. White is a little mix of everything: funny, interesting, daring, infuriating ( at times ), all stirred into one person-

-mermaid. That.

In comparison, he doesn't understand just what she sees in him. He's as boring and as common as humans go. Hell, he can't even swim. And yet he's dating a mermaid. Might as well sign up to become Irony's poster boy.

Really, Leo doesn't understand what drives White into visiting him every week. But, every week, like clockwork, he arrives at the forgotten shore. And, every week, his heart skips a beat when he sees walking up to him. ]

This was supposed to be relaxing, according to his friends. Just a couple nights away, and despite his protests, they'd already paid for it. He didn't want to spend time away from Hell's Kitchen, didn't want to pass even a few nights that could be better spent fighting crime, but... he couldn't afford to give away his secret identity either. It was a compromise, even if it didn't make him happy.

So, there he was, sailing back toward New York after an anxious few days when the hull of the boat scratched against something large underwater and began to sink.

Everything was so loud. People were rushing for lifeboats while Matt tried to help anyone however he could. In his rush he didn't notice the crack in the floor, tripped, and went tumbling into the water. The impact knocked him unconscious. If anyone noticed there was nothing they could do to save him as his body began to sink below the sea.]

Hair fanned out all around her, eyes closed, and afloat with only the slightest flick of her gossamer fins. Against her chest she clutched a hand mirror, concentrating without sound. Something was stirring, a foreign light in the distance that she could feel but not yet see. A power... that seemed so familiar.

Suddenly, the princess's eyes opened wide, glaring a cold, deliberate stare into the abyss.

"Who's there." It wasn't a question.
