Hello, and welcome to The Care and Keeping of Your Pet! As you surely know, a pet is a big responsibility, and we're so glad you've decided to be a concientious master. A safe pet is a happy pet, and this handbook is certain to keep your precious lifelong friend as content as can be.
The history of the animal person is a long and difficult one, with their origins not being known even to this day. However, scientists believe that despite our common appearance - most animal people have humanoid forms except for the ears, tails, and sometimes teeth - we share no common ancestry, even if the ascent of this species corresponds with that of the homo sapien. We gained dominance over each breed thousands of years ago, beginning with the dog type, who have long been considered "man's best friend." Most breeds these days are docile and perfect for owners of any speed.
Of course, it is our duty as the superior species to take care of these animal creatures, and this is inherent in their genetic makeup. Everyone knows that an animal person, when matched with their correct human master, is loyal for life - a true "soulmate," if you will. Far be it for us to turn this away! Ever since the Great Domestication, these intelligent and loving animals have served us as friends, workmates, guardians, servants, and sexual companions and will for years to come. Despite recent hubbub from so-called "Pet People's Rights Activists," this way of life is wholesome and good. Scientific research shows that the natural desire of the pet person is to be owned and cared for by a human.
So, it's your first pet. What do you need to know?
As previously stated, pet people come in as many breeds as you can possibly think of. By far and away the most popular are the dog and cat types, but exotic birds and lizards have been gaining popularity among trendsetters from L.A. to Tokyo!
All pet types are best suited for certain jobs, and when hunting for one, it is best to search for a type that suits your needs best.
However, a "True Match" - when a pet person bonds with you and only you for the rest of their natural lives - comes naturally, and sometimes takes time before you can find the pet you will be able to give a forever home to.
According to all current research, pet people are completely sentient and like us in many ways. However, it is important to remember that they have many animalistic and feral characteristics. Do not be foolish and think that your pet is a person, despite the facts that many are clothed and may be allowed to read, write, and have "hobbies." Some traditional pet owners may eschew these frivolities, and that is within their right.
Pet people age more quickly than humans, at least physically, and many types have long lifespans. It is not uncommon for pets to be passed through the family. When getting your child their first pet, it's important to keep in mind that just because the pup is tiny now, a grown pet can be jumpy around a small child.
It is important to train a pet. Discipline will be necessary. This does not make you a bad owner. Failure to train early will result in a rebellious pet. Training is especially important if you want your pet to serve as a household servant.
Remember, your pet will be extremely protective of you, especially if you are Truly Bonded. It is best to socialize them early. A socialized pet is a perfect family pet.
These days, unowned and unbonded pet people are allowed to live as strays or "Frees" in certain designated areas. Some even hold "jobs." This is against their best interest, and owners who adopt these strays are to be rewarded. Still, the best place to get pets are from liscenced kennels or breeders.
Some masters find it beneficial to participate in activities with their pets, such as shows and other competitions.
Finally, much has been made about the sexual relationship between pet and master. This is a normal facet of the bond, and humans are sure to find pet people sexually alluring. But beyond that, it is only responsible and prudent for owners to care for their pet's needs. It is a well-known fact that the libidos of pet people are remarkably strong, and when they go into heat, it is usually more convenient for a master to relieve them. There is no risk of pregnancy. All rumors of hybrids are urban legends.
Despite this, masters must remember to not view their pets as romantic partners. Humans should stay with humans.
With that said, thank you and welcome to your first day as a pet's master! |

"What do you want to do now?" he asked, eyes on his hair as the brush moved through the auburn strands again and again. "Now that we have money, we can do whatever you like. Go anywhere. So what do you want to do?"
no subject
Go anywhere...do anything...he didn't know...it'd been so long since such a choice was even open for discussion.
Start simple.
Like what?
How about an amusement park? You both could use the air and fun.
Vincent looked to Ashley. "How about the amusement park?" he suggested. "I've never been on any rides before."
no subject
An amusement park. It felt so normal. Ashley couldn't remember the last time he'd done something normal. Arkady had never wanted to go to such things with him, considered them puerile.

After adding the cheese and chives and the like, he flipped the omelette over, let it cook just a bit longer before plating it and handing it to Ashley, doing his own next and pouring them both glasses of juice while he finished making his.

New clothes would be nice so a shopping trip this week would be needed...some cookbooks...This and that were needed but the amusement park trip seemed to be the best way to start their time together.

"I'm glad you want to stay," Ashley said, giving him a shy, friendly smile. "I like having you here."
no subject
He returned the smile. "Me too." he could say honestly.
With the prospect of going to the park now on the day's planner, Vincent finished his breakfast and went to dress before returning to deal with the dishes while his master got ready.
no subject
"Ready?" Ashley asked, once he was finished.
no subject
He nodded, dried his hands, and then headed out with Ashley to the amusement park. It wasn't a long drive but thanks to the great weather, it took them a little time to find a parking space as it was quite busy.
Vincent took Ashley's hand as they headed through the gates to get their tickets. He looked to Ashley, "Want me to buy them?" he asked, unsure if the other's social anxiety was high.

A thousand smells and sights greeted him. And they were not the only master and pet there which was good because he didn't want more stares than necessary. In the end he decided it best to try the most easy-going ride he saw first, the carousel.
Tugging Ashley along, they waited a couple moments in line before getting on. Vincent climbed onto the first horse he saw and prompted Ashley to get on the one beside him.

All too soon, the ride came to an end and they had to get off.
Vincent was okay with it though, they still had a ton more rides to try.
Next up were Bumper Cars. They were too big to squeeze into one together so they had to take separate cars, which Vincent was fine with because half the fun was bumping into those you knew. A burly tiger chased them both around, eventually Vincent rear-ended him only to be jolted from the side by the tiger's owner. It was all good fun though.
Vincent took Ashely's hand when they got off and they headed to a mirror maze only to read the requirements. No pets with headgear of any sort were allowed as one was likely to bump into the mirrors and crack or smash them. Vincent was a little disappointed but didn't let it get to him as they still had a lot to see and do.
He wasn't quite brave enough to try the coasters yet but the new ride the Sky Drop was open. Deciding it best to try as many of the fast or jolting rides before lunch, Vincent pulled Ashley along to get into line.
no subject
He hated the sky drop, but loved the roller coasters, laughing and wobbling as they disembarked. "I'm dizzy," he said, looping his arms loosely around Vincent's neck and leaning on him for support.
no subject
He pulled Ashley over to a bench until the adrenaline and dizziness wore off. By now his stomach was growling for attention and so after a quick sit to get re-orientated, they headed for a stall to eat something. Vincent had chicken tenders and they shared a plate of cheese fries.
no subject
"Have you always been with Ergo?" he asked. Elbows on the table, he poked idly at the last few fries. He didn't feel like moving, after the greasy food, certainly not to climb back on one of the rides.
no subject
He paused with a piece of the delicious confection halfway to his mouth as he tried to answer that. After chewing and swallowing, he did. "No. We've always been together. I can't recall a time when we weren't, nor how we came to be as we are. And Ergo doesn't know either...or, if he does, he's keeping the information from me."
no subject
"I wonder what he wants," Ashley said, now that he was on this mission to discover what it was that Ergo and Vincent's ambitions were, and to fulfill them, if possible. He continued pushing the fries around the plate, propping his head up on his other hand. "What do you want to do now?"
no subject
He didn't ponder it too long. After finishing the cake, he dragged Ashley to an easy-going ride so that they could digest but also have some fun at the same time. There was a small train that ran around the whole park that he saw earlier in the day so after locating the "station", they climbed aboard.
Vincent happily held Ashley's hand and enjoyed the scenery and slow ride as they chugged along. You could ride it as often as you liked, so they stayed on for two cycles before deciding to get off and locate their next fun.
They got in line for the Ferris Wheel, though it took a little while for them to be loaded on. When they finally did, they could see the whole park and the lake not far from it the place was named after.
Less full from lunch, Vincent looked at the map to see which rides were left to try. He thought about the arcade but despite their good financial situation, cheap vaguely cute toys didn't really appeal to him, so they headed for the log flume. When they got off, both were soaking wet but Vincent was laughing happily at the experience.
no subject
He dozed in the car on the way home, eyes on Vincent every time that they opened. Not talking much due to tiredness, he wrinkled his nose. It felt sensitive, and when he checked in the car mirror, he saw that his face was somewhat pink with sunburn.
Ashley made a sound of irritation, returning to petulance from tiredness and sunburn, but he said and did nothing to take it out on Vincent, just kept the problem quietly to himself.
no subject
He was wet all over, sunburned as well, but so happy he hardly noticed his master's irritation.
When they got home, he stripped and tossed his damp clothes in the laundry and wrapped himself in a blanket in his corner for a nap, so exhausted, but the day had been the best he'd had in so long he didn't care.
He was out within moments, curled up and content.
no subject
Crouching by Vincent, Ashley poked at him. He'd never understood this determination for the corner, and he didn't think it could possibly be comfortable. "Why are you on the floor again? There's a couch and a bed. Why do you like the floor so much?"
no subject
"Wha?...Oh...I don't know, used to it I guess..." he mumbled, but to keep the other from nagging him, he got up, taking his pillow and blanket and headed for the bedroom in the event Ergo shifted as the dragon couldn't fit on the couch.
Again, he curled up under his blanket, "Wake me up if you get hungry" he said through a yawn, though after the big lunch they had, they'd likely just have cereal or something simple if anything. He fell back to sleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.
no subject
So he just sat awake, emotionally processing through everything that had happened.
