Mod update + AFFILIATION

Hey [community profile] bakerstreet!

ANONYMOUS ACTIVITY

This is long overdue. So, there are a few concerns I wanted to address. Mostly in regards to how frequently memes get 'trolled' with anon comments and how Bakerstreet has been used as a way to dole out unsolicited (and not always constructive) criticism towards other players. I have also seen this as a way to harass other players. There have also been an increase in "trap" memes and it's quite the cause for concern.

Now, since this is a big community, I'd rather not implement any changes without consulting the playerbase. Anyway, just going to toss a few ideas out there and I'd genuinely love your opinion on them.

☞ Disable the anon option and then memes that require the anon option can have it enabled.
☞ Keeping anon, but enabling IP.
☞ Moderated Posting to filter out the trap memes (and keep the meme count per day to something less. But if this is case, how much memes/day?)
☞ Keep things as they are.

There will probably be another mod post around a week after this to announce the decision. I want to keep [community profile] bakerstreet a fun place.

IF YOU ARE BEING ANONYMOUSLY HARASSED, OR SOMEONE IS BOTHERING YOU AT ALL IN THIS COMMUNITY - DO NOT HESITATE TO PM ME ([personal profile] bakerstreet_mod) OR DROP A COMMENT HERE AND I WILL DEAL WITH IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

LINKING POLICY

Anyway, aside from that. As a tip, not entirely a strict rule - but if you have a meme that LINKS outside of [community profile] bakerstreet to avoid people posting to YOUR post on this community consider DISABLING COMMENTS.

I have nothing against people hosting memes in their communities and linking them here but let's keep confusion to a minimal.

MEME IMAGES

Few things that should be obvious already. DON'T STRETCH THE PAGE (rule of thumb, no images over 650px in width) and please don't use NOT SAFE FOR WORK images as meme headers or alternatively, leave it under a cut with the appropriate warnings.

ADVERTISING: CLUB_ID

So, alright. Some of you may have noticed the appearance of [community profile] club_id. A smut DR trying to get up on it's feet. Anyway, they've asked me to help advertise it. So - come check it out.

CLUB id
[community profile] club_id is a panfandom smut dressing room catering to those players who want played out smut in a kinky setting. All fandoms accepted including canon characters, OCs, AUs and multiples.

Welcome to CLUB id. Within these walls, you'll find a dark and twisted wonderland filled with the tools and people needed to fulfill all the desires you never knew you had. Anything goes at CLUB id. No kink is too deviant for this clientele. You're here purely for pleasure.

Or pain.

Or whatever combination of the two makes you the most excited. There are few rules here. Chief among them is that everyone must enjoy themselves to the fullest extent.
SETTING RULES F.A.Q. SUGGESTIONS CONCERNS OOC

UPDATE: STRIKE SYSTEM + MODERATED POSTING
There are rules in this comm, and though I've never felt the need to be strict about them until now - circumstances have kind of warranted this.

Now I'm not banning anyone because their images stretched the page. So what earns you a strike? Being disrespectful to other players and other asshattery. Now no actions are going to happen unless PROOF follows. Capital mistake to theorize without fact, etc. etc. PLAY NICE. Two strikes results in a ban - but depending on circumstances that can change. Will update profile later.

For the next week as an experiment, Bakerstreet is going to be on moderated posting. See how that fairs, and I'll do another post next week on feedback for the anon on/off discussion.

You should have stated somewhere on your post that you wanted people to give credit for your meme.

I'm not stables.

Also it's... generally implied? They put work into that thing. Lots of work. Going by their posts on anoncomm it took them at least five days to write up that post, and they talked to TLH players a lot to see what they wanted in it. You can't just steal someone's hard work and go WELL YOU NEVER SAID YOU NEEDED PERMISSION.

I don't see how someone else was supposed to know that. I've written a few memes (2 or 3 I think...I wanna say 3 but I can only think of 2) and some of them get reposted with a link to the original. I don't have a problem with that because they generally took me a couple of hours. How would someone who's just seeing the memes know the difference between mine and the one that took a week, if they weren't involved in its creation? (Quality and presentation differences aside -- that can be pretty subjective, and some people can whip out fancy html in a few minutes.)

It just seems there's varying social standards for reposting etiquette, and I don't think going by the wrong one merits calling someone names.

A lot of this vagueness is exactly what's causing some tension right now in TLH, as some open post makers aren't very happy with their stuff being reposted.

I hope everyone can come to some kind of agreement.

That specific post was a collaboration between multiple anons and [personal profile] stables and was very obviously created only for [community profile] the_love_hotel. Ignorance of etiquette doesn't excuse outright ripping that meme from the community and reposting it without permission, especially when doing so triggered multiple people and pissed off the original creators.

The standards don't vary. Just about everyone apart from yourself seems to agree that permission should have been asked, and credit should have been given. Common courtesy demands that much.

Did I miss something? I saw hullo_sweetie claim she linked back to the original post -- is that not sufficient credit? And I think there's definitely a widespread attitude of "reposting is okay" because I don't see a huge kerfluffle every time a meme gets reposted, which is probably 85% of the time a meme goes up.

I understand that triggering material was outside a cut, and that is definitely not cool, but that's a separate issue from whether it's okay to repost at all.

it's not a fucking meme, for christ's sake. memes are created with the intent for reproduction. open posts are not. it's common courtesy to at least ask.

that's not even the real problem. even though she "apologized", she claimed for weeks she had done nothing wrong.

Okay, I guess I was assuming it was a different term for the same thing. I apologize for misunderstanding.

That post was created on rpanons by stables and multiple anons, myself included. It's a meme that caters very specifically to that community, and reposting it here was tasteless and rude.

There's a difference between a meme and an open post. TFLN memes or what have you are a horse of an entirely different color. They aren't catered to anything or anyone in specific and very clearly geared towards the inclusion of all. Most of them have been kicking around in one form or another since LiveJournal. On the flip side, open posts like the Breeding Meme have a lot of time, effort and thought put into them. It was an original idea, and not meant or intended to be recycled time and again, especially outside the community.

I don't know how far back that post is, but when I saw it go up here there was not credit provided. If hullo_sweetie added it in after the fact, that's still not good enough. Someone's original creation shouldn't be taken without permission, end of story.

I was sortof operating on the assumption that "meme" and "open post" were interchangeable terms, so I apologize for misunderstanding. But the rainbow meme, which I wrote, has been reposted at least twice without permission, and I didn't care, so there's a certain amount of agreeing to disagree that I think we need for that part.

Maybe you have very little care for what happens to the things you create, but some of us do. I personally find it galling that someone just rips off another person's original idea, and I know that I'm not alone in that.

No offense, but it's a meme, not a novel. And I created it to be used. Unwritten rules inevitably cause pain, so maybe it should be the standard to put "don't repost or re-use without permission" if that's your desire, or even the opposite, "feel free to repost." There must be a reasonable compromise without talking down to people.

Once again, it's not a meme.

It was created to be used at the_love_hotel, not here. I'm not quite certain why this is a stumbling block for you, and for hullo_sweetie as well.

I understand that. She(?) certainly has a right to be offended, and like I said I didn't understand the difference before, but I do now. I'm responding to you saying I don't care about the things I create.

I'm not sure why your lack of interest in the things you create excuses hullo_sweetie's actions, or the problem bakerstreet has of ripping off posts from other venues, but okay.

I've written two of the popular memes and some have credited, some have not. I don't care either. it's actually a compliment to see it reposted.

Also because you refused to put it behind a cut you triggered several people. Not in the internet meany way, but literally triggered people. That post dealt with shit like rape and you didn't put it behind a cut, and stables got blamed for your retardation.

At the time I didn't know ALL of this was included. At the time all I knew was someone was mad that I reposted their meme. Stables did not contact me through PM on either of my accounts alerting me to all of this so I did not know.

For the record, I didn't PM because I was told several anons had done such. On the other hand, that was mishandling on my part, and I apologize.

But yes, to me it's beyond the reposting at this point. I'm more concerned that people were triggered by a meme I made.

No one PM'd me that I know of. If I had known at the time I would have taken it down. I thought you were upset just because I reposted your meme, which happens all the time here and on any meme community.

I didn't know you'd gotten so much backlash from it.
