( ooc: hope this is acceptable. i was thinking that this happens before carver (and garrett?) leaves for ostagar, but i'm flexible for other ideas! )

[ they used to do this a lot when they were younger.

whenever they feel that they were being followed by templars, father and garrett would go outside and deal with the situation, both hoping not to arouse suspicion while making sure that no one steps in the house and find bethany inside. their mother busied herself with locking up all the openings in their house, in a futile attempt to keep others at bay and also to keep herself distracted. carver and bethany had been too young to join the fighting then, if there ever were actually any, and it was scary, trying not to think about what's going on outside, if father and brother would even actually return, if the people pursuing their family would someday stop. they did as best as little kids often do, and tuned out the world outside while they played in their room, waiting for their eldest brother's booming laugh and their father's exasperated sighs to fill the house again.

it was carver who started it all, although he wouldn't really admit to it even under threat. the first time he found bethany all alone, sad and just about close to crying that even his stupid jig wouldn't be able to make her smile, he found them a few warm blankets and wrapped them around the two of them. and then there were pillows, stuffed animals, more pillows, until it became this huge thing. garrett, at one point, helped them tie blankets on their bed posts and made a blanket roof over their heads, and before leaving he made them promise to guard the fort diligently until he got back.

they're a bit too old for these things now, in carver's opinion. but even if there might be some griping, it's not like he actually refused when bethany asked. ]

You're out of practice. That pillow over there looks crooked.

[ To be honest? His is not even anything close to what you'd describe as magnificent, but Eijun would argue (loudly, jsyk). The mess of pillows and books and anything imaginable taking place at the corner of the room does resemble a fort... of some sort. 'Resemble' being the keyword here.

[it's not done yet, she's having structural integrity issues with one turret but it's huge; taking up almost an entire room. rey is exceedingly proud of her pillow fort thus far, she'd be more happy with it if that one side would stay up.]

[ Most of the rooms on the Falcon aren't palatial, but that hasn't stopped Rey from making the most of this fort. He still isn't sure why she wants to build one. In his opinion, it seems rather childish and silly, but the young woman is intent doing so despite what he thinks.

With a nearly inaudible sigh, Illya crouches down and studies the design of the turret giving her problems, dismantling a few things and adding more to the base in hopes of fixing this little thing on her behalf. Effy came upon the pillow fort that seemed rather out of place in the natural setting but this party happening around it created such a random free flowing atmosphere that it managed to blend in perfectly. She was wearing a short dress with torn stockings, but she got on her hands and knees anyway to begin to crawl into the blanketed entry way.

Normally she would have called out to see who was in there already, but instead she simply entered and looked around.

[So, Youngmin was probably a bit too old for this. Maybe a couple hundred years too old, but he didn't halfass a pillow fort when he built one. It's just normal pillows mostly, and it's probably collapsing in in sections, but it's big, and Youngmin seems very content to be hanging out in there.]

[Why does it feel like she's had that criticism brewing in her mind for months, half-formed? She wasn't able to vocalize it before, as Sierra: grumpiness and nitpicking wouldn't have been her best. She mostly means they're a bit small to share with another person, something they were never meant for in the first place.]

"Open your eyes!" Her voice was soft and held an edge of mischievous excitement. She might not have been quite the devil may care his father was but she was not squeaky clean either. Lily Evans, well Potter at this point in her life, had been known to get up to some trouble on her own, but it was generally all in good fun; such as this.

When he opened his eyes Harry would see a spacious little fort, the top seemed to lift and fall...magic carpets did that. But inside were soft cushions, a tiny little brazier in which a blue flame burned merrily. Beside that were toasting sticks and marshmallows, crackers and chocolate. Mugs sat not too far away ready for cocoa and, if a bit young for him, the decor was at least fun.

"I wasn't sure after all this time what you'd like. If you hate it I can whip something else up. I just thought... well... we might have a chance to talk. To just be together. I know I never got to do this with you properly. I'm sorry for that Harry."
