Sometimes, these things happen. Sometimes, you're in just the wrong place at just the right time, or you've made the wrong (or right, depending on your intentions) person mad. Sometimes it's better for everyone if you just go. Sometimes there isn't time for good-bye.

LOST
You've managed to lose yourself somewhere out there, for whatever reason it was. Maybe you took someone with you (willingly? not?), or you found someone else who needed to disappear as badly as you did. You're in your car, or a cheap hotel, or a house by the side of the road. What else can you do but watch, and wait?

FOUND
It could have been as simple as being glimpsed at the 7-11. Your phoneline wasn't as secure as you thought. You locked eyes with the wrong person across the room. Now the house of cards is collapsing, and maybe not just your life, but the lives of everyone you love could be in jeopardy now. The walls are closing in, and your arms are giving out.

[ If you made a bingo card of all the things that could have gone wrong for the Rampion crew, you'd most certainly have had a bingo or three by now. Not a full black out, no, because there was that space for EVERYONE IS DEAD but close enough.

The Rampion had been spotted. Despite all the precautions and Cress' magical computer skills, they had been found. They'd been chased, shot at, and his poor ship was damaged. They were forced to land. Things went from bad to worse-- the fury of hell itself seemed to rain down upon them, with Levana's army coming for them. To escape, the crew had separated.

Thorne didn't know about the others, but he knew at least he and Cress were alive. Really, a good start.

At least this time, they aren't trapped in the aces damned Sahara. Thorne isn't sure where the hell they are, but there's trees and a rundown old town. They don't risk going into town, even though it looks downright abandoned, instead holing up in an old farmhouse near what probably used to be a major road.

It was the best shelter they could find on short notice, but it's dusty. That's the first thing Thorne notices, yanking a white sheet off of a sofa. Dust. Everywhere. Why couldn't hideouts ever be nice and clean? The Emperor's escape tunnel had been clean. Why couldn't this place? ]

[ Things are good, he knows. Even with S.H.I.E.L.D. blown out of the sky and London ripped up by aliens — it's the best it's been in a long time. He'd have to be stupider than even he believes himself to be not to get it, and that's a tall order. Midtown apartment (it sounds better than huge freaking tower in his head) and friends and a lab and actual work to do again that isn't in factories or back alley clinics.

Old habits are hard to break.

Steve and Sam drop in occasionally in between looking for whoever it is they're on the watch for (as if everyone doesn't know already and is being nice instead of asking more questions); Natasha less so. What she does in between appearing on the couch, curled up with a bowl of popcorn, or walking out of the gym with sweaty hair pulled up out of her eyes, or just in the kitchen perched on a counter — that's something else people don't ask about. Tony still tries, even though Natasha has informed him of about seven of the hundred ways she could kill him. For most of the rest it's less about nice and more about understanding Natasha isn't the opening up kind.

Bruce does it more for the nice. Also because the helicarrier still hovers between them — massive and practically invisible except when it making waves. Maybe that's why she returns the favor.

It's the middle of the night and his bag is packed, slung across his chest as he guiltily peeks around the corner. Coward's way out, he knows, avoiding goodbyes and Stark's excuses to keep him occupied and around, but he never claimed bravery. Hence why he nearly jumps out of his skin when he opens the freight elevator doors and Natasha arches an eyebrow at him from underneath a hoodie. She's got a pack on her shoulders and her finger is on the "open" button, tapping with a nail, waiting for him to get on.

...She'd probably follow him until he was at least across state lines anyway with or without him giving in. What does it hurt?

It also helps because she's much more prepared for this than he is. Natasha has a nondescript car waiting three blocks east with more supplies than his sad little duffel holds. (Is it bugged? Maybe. Bruce clicks a Starktech prototype in his pocket — one-touch low-voltage EMP designed to take out discreet spy what-have-yous without frying anything else. The starter still fires the engine and the radio still works when Natasha shifts gear, so at least if it didn't work... Well. Bruce can still believe it did. It's a comforting thought.

They don't talk much as they drive anywhere and nowhere all together, crackling radio stations to fill the silence so it's not outright uncomfortable. Not until they pull into a beatdown motel near what used to be the main highway. Two beds, one bathroom, and no cockroaches that he can see. ]

So. [ A deep breath and is he going to actually be the first to prod for answers now? ] Which bed do you want?

[ if by 'on the run' one means 'running away from the biggest fucking giant lalli has ever seen', then yes, they're certainly on the run, and have been for some time. separated from the rest of the group in copenhagen, it's now well after midnight, and lalli is pretty much in his element. as a night scout, he's accustomed to risking his life for less, and running for hours at a time, and napping when he can in trees or animal burrows. emil, though? well, he's a cleanser. this isn't what he was trained to do, and with only two years in the military.. lalli's more than a little worried.

still, he's been doing okay so far. lalli's picked up enough swedish over the last few weeks to understand that he's worried about the others, though-- lalli's concerned, too. most of his focus is on evading the giant, though. it's not like them to hunt someone so far for so long, even a mage. this is such a weird country with weird giants that don't follow typical giant behavior.

scrambling down the tree he'd been using as a look-out, he shakes his head as he springs lightly down from the bottom-most branches, landing as lightly as the cat he resembles. ]

Lost it for now. [ even now, he speaks swedish reluctantly, and only because it's vital for emil to be able to understand him in this kind of situation. ]
