On Your Doorstep

They ended up on your doorstep, quite literally. Bloody, possibly. Bruised, most definitely, though the wounds may be mental. You probably don't know them from Adam, yet you couldn't find it in you to turn them away - whether they wanted you to or not. So you opened up your home, just for a little while.

But it's getting to be more than a little while. Both of you are finding a comfort zone, because you didn't simply open up your home. Admit it or don't, but you've opened up your heart all the same.

Their's is slowly following, if its reluctant at all.

Malcolm drinks deeply and relaxes a bit. "Thank you," he says, "it was an emotional night tonight."

"Yeah, it was." The Doctor observes. "I'm sorry it had to happen, but maybe it's best this way. Rebecca can finally rest and you can maybe have closure now. Move on."

"I'll never fully move on," Malcolm says, "she sank into my soul in such a way she'll never completely leave me. She was very much like Rose in that way."

The Doctor gives a very weak smile. "Good old Rose....." He looks so very sad for a moment before smiling at Malcolm. "We'll never forget them, but we have to let them go."

"The hardest part is letting go," Malcolm says nodded, "your heart doesn't want to but your brain knows you should."

The Doctor nods and runs his fingers through Malcolm's hair. "It will be alright. We can get through this together."

Malcolm turns into the touch gently. "You never answered my question. What were you doing in the garden?"

"Oh, I came by to say hi but you weren't home. So I came back inside and worked on a few things. Lost track of time." He grins. "I haven't seen you in a month or so."

"You didn't try to fix my toaster again did you," Malcolm asks, "it exploded the last time."

"No, I stayed inside the TARDIS once I figured out you weren't home." The Doctor said with a sheepish grin.

"Good," Malcolm says with a chuckle, "I never want to clean up a mess like that again."

"I don't plan on doing it again." The Doctor pouts for a second but then it shifts into a grin. "And I did help clean it up."

"After I asked twice and promised to go on a trip with you," Malcolm replies sounding slightly sassy.

"Alright alright you, enough of that. I apologized didn't I? Now tell me, how are you feeling? Think you'd be more comfortable in a real bed if you can move."

"Better," he says, "I think I could stand getting up and moving if you don't mind my leaning on you a bit," he says.

"Of course." The Doctor agrees with a grin. He helps Malcolm stand and together they slowly make their way down the hall to the Doctor's bedroom. He opens the door and leads Malcolm inside, settling him down on his bed.

Malcolm winces once or twice but other than that he doesn't give any outside sign of pain. "Thank god for healing."

"Yes, I imagine you're very thankful for that at the moment. Were it anyone else they would probably be dead." The Doctor observed as he moved to help Malcolm slide into the bed to relax. "You should get some more rest."

"Sleep with me," Malcolm asks softly, "not sex but just sleep. I need someone who cares tonight."

"Alright." The Doctor moves around the room sliding into a pair of pajamas before he climbs into the bed with his friend and lover. He is careful of the others injuries as he settles in the bed to rest. While not tired himself he knows Malcolm will rest better if he's there so here he will lie until he is no longer needed.

Malcolm relaxes as he feels the Doctor join him. "Thank you," he says his voice heavy with sadness.

He wraps his arms around Malcolm and hold him lightly. Pressing a kiss to his temple he relaxes and rests. He didn't make a comment for his thanks because he knew at least a portion of Malcolm's pain was brought on by himself, even if it was an alternate version of himself.

Malcolm didn't talk about his own Doctor much for a reason. Their parting while somewhat the same had been painful and for centuries Malcolm had loathed the Time Lord even lashing out at Harrison for simply being one. But he'd made his peace with that pain and clung hard to the Doctor now loving him with all he had.

"Sleep Malcolm, I'll be here when you wake up." He whispered running lithe fingers through Malcolm's hair trying to calm him.

"Promise," Malcolm said starting to drift off, "I hate it when you leave me."
