On Your Doorstep

They ended up on your doorstep, quite literally. Bloody, possibly. Bruised, most definitely, though the wounds may be mental. You probably don't know them from Adam, yet you couldn't find it in you to turn them away - whether they wanted you to or not. So you opened up your home, just for a little while.

But it's getting to be more than a little while. Both of you are finding a comfort zone, because you didn't simply open up your home. Admit it or don't, but you've opened up your heart all the same.

Their's is slowly following, if its reluctant at all.

[Simon presses on. Yeah, it probably stung. But don't be a baby. Overcoming pain is the first step towards becoming a real badass leader type, after all.]

Buu-Buu!

[The Supreme Commander chuckles, hoping to diffuse some of the tension in Yosuke. Just like Kamina used to do.]

Well, this is Boota. He's been with, Yoko, and my bro since the beginning.

[The pig-mole stands up, his little arms going to his waist as best they could, and he Buu's again, proudly.]

He's as much a part of Team Dai-Gurren as anyone, you know.

[punchesyu]

The beginning? I'm surprised you guys didn't eat him. [He'd probably be pretty tasty. Yosuke isn't young enough to be born on the surface yet, so he remembers.]

You look like you're ready to take on a Beastman, little guy. How many'd you beat up? [He asks, teasing the little pig-mole, as if Boota could possibly beat up a Beastman.]

Well...[Simon rubs the back of his head.] Boota's actually the reason we won some of those early battles. Because we did eat him.

[Buu! Buu!]

Well...mostly just his tail, but that grows back. so you could say he's taken down at least three Gunmen.

[punchesyu]

[Even through the pain, he's got to say:]

That's kinda weird, dude.

[Simon laughs, happy and bright, tearing more of Yosuke's shirt off to get at the wound better.]

Boota didn't mind. And you can't fight on an empty stomach.

[punchesyu]

Hell no! Man, a juicy steak sounds really good right about now... [He whines, feeling the emptiness of his stomach. As Simon continues to dab at his wounds, he cries out-]

Yaaaah! Dude, watch it! [But he's just being a whiner.]

Relax, don't whine.

[It's not sharp, it's definitely a gentle reminder, but coming from Simon? Well, he knows what sort of effect he has on people.]

Pain is weakness leaving your body. And d'you want this to get infected?

[punchesyu]

[Yosuke looks up, defeated, knowing Simon was right on that one.]

Yeah, well... [Breathing out heavily, he guesses he owes an apology.] Sorry, Supreme Commander. As soon as I'm all bandaged up I'm going back out there to kick their asses.

[He doesn't know the progress of the battle, or anything- he'd been jumped first.]

Good! That's exactly what I wanted to hear.

[Not that he thinks there'll be anything left. By now the Grapearls have gotten there, and the worst of the fighting is over, he's sure of it. But...you never know.]

Now, hold still, I'm going to have get to that cut on your cheek. It looks deep.

[punchesyu]

[He obeys, holding still and wincing at the touch on the cut.]

Where else did they get me, man... [But it sort of dawns on him as Simon is cleaning, that well, why is Simon here?]

Doesn't it bug you to be here and not out there helping the others?

Nah, Kittan, Gimmy, Darry, and the others can handle a few Gunmen. Right now, I need to make sure my newest recruit isn't too badly hurt.

[Confident, faithful. He's got a job to do, and while a medic could handle it, this is less frustrating for him than getting suited up and having nothing to do when he gets there.]

[punchesyu]

They were part of Team Dai-Gurren against Lordgenome, weren't they? [He appreciates the concern, giving a smile back accompanied by another wince from the cleaning job.]

Why'd you guys decide to base Kamina City here?

That's right. Basically since the beginning too, once we left Littner.

[Here come the bandages.]


And why here? Because it's where we beat the Spiral King. We had a ready-made city, really.

[punchesyu]

I was still a little kid when that all happened. I heard about it back in my village before we moved here, but hearing right from the Supreme Commander's mouth is something else! Guess that explains the big spiral building in the middle of town.

Dude, is that place a palace or what? Come on, you gotta tell me about it!

[Ow ow ow bandages]

Hah, it was. Now it's the command center. Rossiu mostly takes care of it, and there's lots of paper-pushers. Honestly, it's not as cool as it used to be, but we did need an administrative building for the New Government, so it worked.

[Ugh, paperwork so boring!]

Laaaame, that's what you get when you leave it up to that guy. He's as stiff as a board!

I'd sure hate to get on his bad side though. I just think he needs to lighten up a little.

[Starting to bandage it up nice and tight now.]

Heh, he has his reasons, Yosuke. And he is right. A government is necessary. And they do need the space, more than we do anyway.

[punchesyu]

[Ow, that hurts too, and even through pained noises, he manages to keep his mouth shut.]

Still, you coulda been really living it up in there! It's not like you don't deserve it.

[After defeating the Spiral King? Anyone deserves to live in luxury for that one, in his book.]

Yeah, but I grew up in Giha Village.

[He shrugs noncommittally]

I'm not really comfortable with all that luxury and stuff. Also? Lordgenome was at least twice my size. I don't think I'd fit in his chair too well.

[punchesyu]

Screw his chair! Get yourself a new one, and put it in its place! [Kidding, he laughs, even through Simon's tightening of the bandages around his chest. It's a pained laugh, but he can't let something like that take away from the fact that they were alive, kicking the rebel Beastmen's asses and living free.]

But I guess if you want to live out here in the middle of nowhere, [He winks-] I can't stop ya.

[Simon chuckles to himself, tying off that bandage and going for some butterfly ones for cut cheeks.]

Damn right. I'm Simon the Digger, not the Spiral King. And I have to spend enough time there working anyway.

[punchesyu]

Why don't you take a vacation? Is it really that busy up there?

[useddig]

Well between that and the stupid Beastmen attacks? I don't have time.

[punchesyu]

Man, that's totally lame! I bet if you asked to have those guys cover out in the field you could! But I suppose if something went wrong, not having you around would really cause some trouble....

[He trails off, the seeming defeat of a vacation for Simon evident.]

But hey, let's forget about that. Come on bro, you can't tell me you never have any free time though. You big wigs up there gotta relax every once in a while.

Oh, maybe at first.

[He laughs self-deprecatingly, giving Yosuke a level, if amused look.]

But nowadays? With all these people coming out of the underground? I'm lucky if I get to spend more than a couple hours a week with Nia.
