There are undoubtedly moments in our lives that define us, no matter how crystal clear or hazy or memories of those times are. In the case of hazy recollections, it's more likely than you'd think. How strange it its that one inconsequential, in the grand scheme of things, event can change the course you take...not always so seriously or dramatically, of course. You can't remember why you don't like soup; in actuality, you burned your tongue badly on chicken soup at one point, long ago. You'd forgotten, but your mind and body didn't. More weighty traumas that you've unknowingly pushed back can work in much the same way. You shy away from using scissors as you feel a shiver run down your spine, not necessarily as you remember blood gushing from toddler-sized fingers when you played with the big-kid scissors and cut yourself. Still, there is a connection and it keeps you "safe" through past experience. The consciousness is amazing in that way, constantly making associations that, for better or worse, shape how we view the world around us, though we may not always recall what brought us those views.

In this meme, however, there's no way this particular association - a special person, being around them, and your happiness - can go unnoticed, and you know the exact cause. In fact, you can track down the exact moment: this person came to you when you were low, perhaps even at your lowest. Like some guardian angel, they showed you kindness, they turned your world right side up again, they gave you a helping hand, or they granted you your life when they could have taken it. Perhaps it was something as simple as not treating you like trash. At that particular time, what they did meant everything. Whether you see your response to this as a welling up of true love or merely you owing them a debt, what you feel towards them cannot be measured. Even if you're usually as warm as a giant block of ice with a black heart, you have feelings towards them you can't quite understand. If you're emotional at the best of times, you'll most likely be completely overcome. Whatever the case may be, what you know for certain is that you want to stay with this and feel that lightness in your heart.

Depending on what other associations you've made and how you've figured the world works for you, this desire could lead to actions going smoothly or terribly, terribly wrong and creepy.

  12. Gave Me Hope: You're jaded and they're not. Their optimism or even their continued existence perks up your spirit just a bit, enough to continue on.
  13. Shattered Heart: They're helping you get over a romantic betrayal, platonic at at first. But then...
  14. Mercy: They could have, and should have, ended your life. They made another call.
  15. Didn't Reject: Despite your appearance, your past, your lifestyle, or your personality...not being the prettiest, they don't turn you away like everyone else has.

We all know how this works by now, right? Tag someone, go to RNG (or just pick an option you like), play things out, have fun, respect each other.

  5. Emergency Treatment Center. Oh, no, one of you has been hurt! Unfortunately there's no ambulance around other than this little plastic one, so you'll need to deal with this yourselves. Hopefully it's nothing serious...
  6. Turbo Prop 1. Does anybody in this thread know how to fly a plane? Of course! Problem is, it's not the one who's in the pilot's seat. Hopefully they can walk you through it without any high-altitude mistakes.
  7. Big Rig Truck Stop. Do as the truckers do and get on the road! Maybe you have a destination in mind, maybe you're just in it for the journey. But make sure your traveling partner is willing. Otherwise it's kidnapping, and that isn't nice.
  8. Monorail Transport System. Ah, public transportation. It's convenient, in theory. In practice, it can be a headache to work out your transfers, especially when you have someone else crowded into your personal space. (Get it? Space?)
  9. Emergency Repair Truck. You need one of these, because something important is broken, and you two need to either figure out how to fix it or live without it (which might be hard). Accidents happen. (Was it an accident?)
  10. Twin Starfire. Look at those identical astronauts in symmetrical cockpits. There are two of you, too, or perhaps two of that other guy. What are you going to do with this development?
  11. Camouflaged Outpost. Look at that, it's a castle pretending to be a tree! Just like you're pretending to be something you're not. What are you up to, and will you be able to fool the person you're talking to?

ＳＴＡＲＧＡＺＩＮＧ - whether you're on a picnic blanket in a field, laying on the beach, or in the bed of a truck, you're with someone you care about and you're looking at the stars.

ＣＡＭＰＦＩＲＥ - camping is the most fun when you're with someone else. roasting marshmallows, telling stories. nature's got it goin' on.

ＰＡＲＫＩＮＧ - you're at the lover's lane, parked at the peak overlooking the city, it's just you and someone else in the car. maybe it's time to steam up the glass or hey, you guys can just talk if you want.

ＦＩＲＥＷＯＲＫＳ - maybe it is the fourth of july, the new year, or just because, but there's fireworks shooting off and they're magical. or scary. it depends on what floats your boat.

ＬＡＴＥ ＮＩＧＨＴ ＳＷＩＭ - maybe you're at the beach or in the backyard pool or at the lake, maybe you're going to skinny dip or maybe you'll 'fall' in with all your clothes. either way, swimming at night is pretty much always fun.

ＳＫＹ ＬＡＮＴＥＲＮＳ - perhaps you've lost someone dear and you want to do something to remember them by, maybe you're making a wish for the future.

a "blind" shipping meme

Ideally, attraction doesn't hinge entirely on the basis of looks. Beauty fades, after all, and no matter how you may swoon over a person, no one wants to be left with someone whose personality they can't stand once the blush is off the rose. How much looks matter, then, varies from individual to individual. Still, you can't divorce that facet completely from attraction, can you? There's no way you could fall in love with someone you've never actually seen!

Emotions and affection are strange beasts.

Your character has fallen for a person (?) they've never actually laid eyes on, at least not fully. The two of them have talked - most likely at length, leading your character to feel safe revealing information and growing close - and perhaps the mysterious half has saved your character or pulled strings so events go in their favor. Yet their never actually seen their benefactor, trusted companion, or lover has never stepped into plain sight. They could hide, stay in the shadows, insist on blindfold or covered eyes. They use communicating devices, like phones or computers, or they only come out at night. Maybe your character just cannot see the other; they're blind or the other character is somehow invisible. No matter how tight the bond between these characters is, your character has to wonder what this person (how are we so sure it's a person?) they've come to have such strong feelings for looks like, right? Don't they? Surely, it eats at them, tugging at the back of their mind, despite what they may think they're content with.

Of course, you could also play the character who's keeping out of sight. Whether they have real, deep fondness or love for who they're "hiding" from or if it's all a cruel and elaborate manipulation, their reasons (and methods). There's a danger that follows them and they don't want to bring anyone into the line of fire. They don't want anyone to see their general appearance, their hideousness, their species, their mutation, or their scarring. They could just be shy! Regardless of the situation, they have to know eventually their relative anonymity will come to an end. Hiding from someone who cares for them isn't viable, and when and if the reveal should go over badly, will their merit on personality alone make up for what could be called deception?

  • Reply to others. AUs are welcome here.
  • The challenge here is, of course, playing an emotionally charged scene where the characters aren't necessarily facing each other. They may not even know a great deal about each other!
