Mod Post: Anon Harassment

Hello all.

There have been a disturbing number of reports and complaints made as of late with regards to anon harassment or outright bullying on this comm. This is not okay. Rule number one of this community, insofar as much as we have rules is 'don't be an ass; respect one another'.

There is no scenario where harassment, anon or otherwise, is acceptable or to be encouraged in this community. We're here to rp in memes, not to ruin each others' pretendy fun times. It doesn't matter if the character is a supposed cockhop, a wanker, practically an OC, or using the 'wrong' PB. Please suck it up and don't tag them if you don't like what you see, and let it go. Or if you want to crit them, pm them under a sock or comment on their HMD post.

As of right now I'm not turning anon off, but this the only warning I'm going to give. If the harassment continues as it has been, anon will be getting shut off until further notice and I will be reassessing the need for having anon enabled in this community.

Regardless of whether anon continues to be a function on this comm, the problems post will always be anon enabled, and I am always open to private PMs.

First off a character by name only with 90% headcanon does not make them IC no matter what, you've practically written an OC into the canon at that point and just used a name. To be honest, some of the things you've asked about or the way you've made the character is creepy and annoying. I'm sorry if you like that sort of stuff but most people don't and are very uncomfortable roleplaying with you. Yet when they tell you such you ignore it and pm them repeatedly.

You've been harassing many of my friends, sending them several PMs wherein though you are seeming to be polite, you are being pushy and passive aggressive. I wish your friends would stop putting you on a pedestal as if you've done no wrong. You've been invasive and rude on so many levels and most of that is why people won't tag you and avoid you. It's not just because of your ridiculous over use of hearts, smilies, tildes and awkward insertion of words in parenthesis.

Your friends have given you an inflated ego over this, honestly, terribly written character but more over you seem to think it's okay to bully my friends into tagging you. As if they should want to tag you because everything you write is so great and absolutely not triggery or creepy in any fashion!!!! XD ♥ ♥ &hearts:

Your stalker behavior is alarming and the fact that people have asked you to stop tagging them but you continue to ignore that? Is not okay. Tagging them on Anon after they've specifically asked you to stop tagging them is not okay and I think your friends need to be more aware of what you're doing to alienate yourself from the rp community as a whole. We've tried telling you what bothers us and whats not okay, I can't speak for all anons/players but I know quite a few have tried to do so in a constructive way. They've tried to give you crit so you are more approachable and easier to tag but your behavior has made you nothing but obnoxious.

I'm throwing off the kid gloves and putting this here because I know it'll go ignored if I sent it to you personally. Others need to be aware of your behavior before they start saying you're some polite, amazing RPer. You're not. And I apologize if this blatant and hard truth is hard to swallow. I'm not trying to be a bully, i'm just trying to stop your harassment of the RP community as a whole before you get Anon turned off or cause more trouble for the mods of this community due to your friends backing you up over something you've brought on yourself.

And then someone completely misses the point of the post...? Is this an HMD post? Did they ask for your crit? No, they did not. In fact, the closest they came to asking for crit was 'how can this be ooc' and you didn't address that (which, by the way, of course a name only character is an 'OC', because nothing was provided for them to actually be IC with).

This post directly refers to anonymous commenters harassing players for one reason or another, so your assertion that this person tagging people or sending them PMs off of anon has nothing to do with this post nor does it have any bearing on turning anon on or off. Your comment, on the other hand, is basically the sort of thing I imagine the post was referring to.

Essentially, this is way the wrong time and place for that comment. Put it on an anoncomm or on his HMD, not a mod announcement just because they happen to be there.

You don't need to turn anon off, you need to get some more mods to help you stay on top of this place. Since you've taken over, there's been little to no noticeable change in the way bakerstreet operates: certain obviously niche memes still get reposted way more often than they need to be, near-duplicates are posted within 24 hours of each other, and anon harassment goes unaddressed for days or weeks until you can find the time and energy to be bothered.

DWRP is always going to have obnoxious assholes and people who are too focused on their own enjoyment to realize they should maybe hold off on posting a meme. Just shutting off anon and telling us to play nice isn't going to fix that.

What I and other anons have been saying for months, and what you seem to fail to grasp, is that bakerstreet is no one person's private playground. It's a community for ALL of DWRP, which means that it needs an actual functioning organization system and that would-be posters need to consider if and how their posts are going to impact people other than themselves and their circles of friends.

I honestly wouldn't even care as much about all the duplicate memes if we had a tag system that every poster used and that was sufficiently descriptive to let me filter to only the memes I'm interested in looking at, because 1) that would eliminate the problem of people seeing memes they aren't interested in and 2) it would provide a more direct method of getting to the niche memes, thereby eliminating the problem of them being reposted constantly as if that'll somehow convince more than a handful of the people who actually create top-levels to tag around.

The fact remains, however, that as of my writing this, we have one mod who's made pronouncements and taken suggestions but not actually done anything yet (or if they have done more than bring on the tag mod, they've really kept it quiet) and one mod who's just come on and intends to focus solely on the community tags, which should help the organization issue but won't do anything about the harassment. If kostinaya can't be around enough to deal with the harassment issue by any means more delicate than just turning off anon entirely, she needs to bring in more help.

You, on the other hand, need to stop whining about your ~freedoms~ as an RPer just because somebody shows up here anon saying they're tired of having to dig through eight layers of shit to get to the memes they actually want to play in, and I'll thank you to cut the condescending bullshit, mmmkay?

I am actually working on getting more mods than just myself and the tag mod I just brought on, as I do realize this is far too much work for just me.

I know this does not help our current issues with harassment, but I hope to be able to be more proactive in both addressing future harassment issues, and clarifying/enacting some of the suggestions given to me when I first took over the community last month when I have a little more help.

I will continue to do what I can however, to address harassment issues as they are reported to me in the meantime.

Thank you. It's been frustrating to see no apparent changes since you became mod, but the new tag mod is a good enough sign that I'm personally willing to keep waiting instead of running off to start yet another would-be replacement or whatever we usually do in this sort of situation.

I wish you luck in putting together a mod team that's good for bakerstreet, and hope the other anons will cool it in the meantime so it can happen sooner.

I also think the current system of bakerstreet works pretty well, especially since the anon bashing is being dealt with.

I do wish we could try putting more then 20 memes on the front page of bakerstreet, as was mentioned in a different meme, tho. What about trying things out with 30-40 memes per page?
