Cuddling is one of the best things in the world. Whether it be platonic cuddling between friends, or cuddling with your sweetheart, it's pretty damn fun.


But what about cuddling with a bunch of people? Watch a movie with friends and flop across them. Set up a tent in the back yard and curl up with your friends.

Whatever the situation, it's not just you and one other. It's you and several others and cuddling and it's awesome.

[Outside, the wind blows hard, prying at the tightly locked shutters, blowing snow high up against the walls and knocking out the electricity. The inn's well insulated, enough to keep in most of the heat until morning but for the moment the guests are on their own. Tifa's already raided the closet and come back with a large pile of blankets, she's set up something between a nest and a fort in the room with. If you manage to get some of the last of the hot cocoa from the room below your admittance is guaranteed... but she'll accept icy feet if necessary.]

[ Well, it could be worse. They could all be stuck outside in a tent, weathering the blizzard.

Not that the cheap little inn they have ended up in is all that much better; the walls have holes and the floors have gaps and he's pretty sure there's air flowing in through the eaves every time the wind blows (which is always, now, with the storm at its height). But being stuck indoors and camping is still slightly better than being out there and freezing.

And, besides, it gives him something to focus on while they're trapped here and waiting for the bad weather to break. Going up and down the hall collecting anything they can use to shore up Tifa's blanket fort has yielded a minor windfall of temporary insulation - a couple of armfuls of big, white chocobo feather pillows that he ducks awkwardly back under the flower-print tent flap carrying. ]

There were a couple of empty rooms. [ So he just grabbed everything, natch. ]

[Cue Yosuke peering at him from underneath the opposite end of the kotatsu, creating a nice hole for the warmth to escape from. He initially came over for a joint study session, but they weren't achieving a whole lot. Between Souji napping under the table and the TV murmuring away about some eveningtime nonsense (so far he'd seen a nature broadcast, some abbreviated newscast and now some local program about upcoming festivals..), Yosuke had all but given up on his studies.]

...I guess there's always tomorrow.

[To say that seeing Haku again had been a surprise would have been an understatement. To say that it had made Chihiro anything less than the happiest girl at the festival would have been a lie.

She'd dragged him hither and yon, anxious to show him absolutely everything - the food, the games, the decorations. She'd tried to avoid the people, just because...well, Chihiro was not a very good liar, and up until now, she'd never had to be. But it was the Tanabata festival, and no one was in the mood to be suspicious of everyone.

Really, it had taken her much too long to realize that Haku was getting tired. That had surprised her, until she'd realized that not only was he a spirit, he was a river spirit in her world and on dry land.

It made sense, and left her even more touched that he'd come to see her.

Fortunately, there was the river that ran through her village, and it wasn't that far away from the booths - close enough that the happy sounds of the festival still filtered over to them through the otherwise still and quiet night air. But here, they could sit on the bank and watch fireflies.

Haku was shorter than she remembered, or maybe it was that she was a little taller, now. Either way, it was Chihiro who had her arms around Haku's shoulders, holding him tightly to her as though he might disappear all over again.]

[There's not a lot of room for downtime. They're fighting a war on the move now and most days every second counts.

Not tonight.

Tonight the story outside is too heavy to move in, too violent to think about it and everyone's found hide-away spots to relax and savor the lull. There are several TVs tucked away in corners and something's playing on the screen in front of Lin. Except the couch, lifted out of some empty nearby farm is too comfortable, the blanket loosely draped around her too warm and the night too wild to stay awake. Slowly, surely, she's drifting to the side to end up against the blond next to her.

He's warm too.]
